No problem. I realised you had missed it so highlighted it. Hmm, tricky one...

message 410: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments So does anybody have recommendations for a book with a weapon on the cover? I only have 2 in my to read list and I'm not really in the mood for either of them. So if anyone can MAYBE remember something they read recently that was any good, please give me a shout!

Have you read A Game of Thrones?

I read Game of Thrones about 3 weeks ago, wish I waited!
And thank you for the lists! I never actually use the lists, so I didn't think to check there!

If you haven't found anything yet check the mishmash discussions. In that challenge there is also a task where you have to read a book with a weapon on the cover. Check what people have read for that task and maybe you will get ideas.

Great idea!
Or if you have it, maybe read the second Game of Thrones?

message 416: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I've finished no.23 with Dissolution by C.J. Sansom.

Is no.3 available? If not, no.9?

9 - Read a book that has someone on the cover that has Red hair

message 418: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Shit! I just bloody read one! Aaargh!

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
The world is cruel :(

message 420: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Man, if only I'd read it slower instead of devouring it. I could have finished it today and gone on to the next challenge. God knows when I'll read another book with a red-head on the cover.

message 421: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Just keep checking the other editions when you read something.

Didn't we already had a task with a cover with a person with red hair?
Just to tease you Lauren I too just finished a book with a person on the cover with red hair. But more importantly the entire book was set in London and I needed to read a book that was set in a big city for task 35 and I think London will do. The book was Quicksilver by Amanda Quick.

May I please have task 36?

message 423: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I could re-read Perfume by Patrick Suskind - it's one of my favourite books, and my edition (as well as several others) has a red-head on the cover as red-heads are important to the story. But I was really hoping I'd get something that would correspond with one of my review books.

So, so annoyed at my timing!

Oh please, please say it's so!

Give it a week and see what comes up or else you can always use your opt-out if you want.

On the other hand Das Parfum is one of the best books ever written and the only book I ever made my mum read. I read it in the original German for my highschool reading requirements in German class and have since reread it several times.

message 426: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I did a search - task 40 is the same, it's just phrased differently ("redhead on the cover").

Lauren Smith Barbara wrote: "Give it a week and see what comes up or else you can always use your opt-out if you want."

I could use the opt-out, but I feel I should save it for something worse.

I don't think anything in the rules excludes the possibility of tasks being the same.

message 429: by Lauren (new)

Yeah, Death of a Saint would've been a perfect fit. Guess that's how the cookie crumbles sometimes ;P

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I just brought it up because I know there is nothing that excludes it but didn't realise it could happen. I got a certain safe feeling when other people chose tasks that I wouldn't want to do and now I realised that I am not safe at all and that the task i thought I was safe from can still come and bite me in the you know where.

message 432: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Yes we already had a task like that. But I have a few doubles here and there. Just to keep you guys on your toes :P

@Barbara - 36 - Read a book that has title of 7 words or longer.

message 433: by Lauren (last edited Apr 15, 2012 11:52AM) (new)

Lauren Smith Lol, Barbara is going to be the weirdo in the bookshop again, counting all the words in the titles :D

message 434: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Crap! I am saying that word a lot lately.

I did buy a lot of books lately so before I go to the bookstore I will be the weirdo in my own home were nobody can see me :D

message 435: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Just want to make sure if this book will count. In the A-Z book challenge if you read a translated book the title that counts is the title of the translation. Is that the same here? I have a Dutch book that has 7 words in the title. The book has been translated from English and in English it only has 5 words. I will read the Dutch version that has 7 words.

message 436: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Sounds good as long as you read the Dutch version I see no problem with it.

message 437: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Yeah!!! Thanks Lu. I am not going to be the weirdo in the bookshop this time! I have this book in my library so I can start reading.

Thanks a lot for your help Lu and Barbara!
Unfortunately I finished Catching Fire as well, busy with Mockingjay (so seriously, why does it not have a weapon on the cover??)
I'm definately going to check out the mishmash discussions, currently I decided on Graceling, but still not sure, so maybe I'll find something else there!

Typical, I started Dance of Dragons a few days ago. No worries, I am sure I have others on my list that will qualify. At least I am a quick reader...

message 448: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Is it a rule that you have to start the book after you get the challenge? Or can you use the book you're currently reading?

message 449: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I think if you are still in the first 30% or so it should be fine.

Now she tells me. Here I was looking for a book set in a big city while I was already reading Angels and Demons that is largely set in Rome.
Ah well, it worked out anyway and I had fun reading the other book.
