The flea story always sticks out to me. They were complaining about the fleas, but the guards left them alone. Reminds me to be thankful for even the bad things in my life.
I feel great respect for Corrie and Betsy both. Betsy exemplifies the enduring and unconditional love of God toward her fellow beings. She held on to a positive attitude in spite of cruelty beyond imagination given to her by others.
She was a humbling example to Corrie which enabled Corrie to eventually overcome her hatred toward her enemies.
Corrie, in her own right, was a strong, determined spirit which enabled her to survive al the horrible things she had to witness and endure.
They were both great examples to us all.

I have a thing about honesty after reading this when I was a child. I will be honest at all costs and leave the rest up to God, like she did. It has impacted my life in m any ways and God has come through for me every time.
"Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for the future that only He can see."
That has gotten me through home hard times and dark wanderings. I need to be thankful for everything, because it will help me fulfill His will and be a better servant to God.

It has always reminded me that forgiveness, ours by God and ours of one another, is at the very heart of our Christian faith. I have really needed to know that, as my academic career was wrecked by two wicked men in 1971.O Love How Deep
It's been a while since I read the book, but I found it very challenging: Would I be able to stand firm and keep my eyes on God like Corrie and Betsy and their father?
In 2003, while in The Netherlands for a conference, we added on a few days. We stayed in Amsterdam and the first thing we did was take the train to Haarlem and take the tour through their house - which is still over a watchmaker's shop.
The next day, we toured the Anne Frank house.
Both was humbling and made the stories come alive!

I read this once when I was a kid and again about 5 years ago. I am in awe of the ways God works in the most hopeless places and times. I often think

I remember learning about her in Sunday school when I was young. I never forgot her, and read The Hiding Place when I was 12. What a sensational woman!!
Corrie ten Booms book is so inspiring. I love how God takes the ordinary person and makes something extraordinary with their lives. I also love how Corrie didn't even start her ministry until she was in her 50's. God is amazing, and so was the ten Boom family!
I think this is one of my most beloved books.. It is right up there with A tree grows in brooklyn..Corrie's faith in GOD and all the miracles that happened while in prison and her steadfast love of Christ, her sister and her wisdom really inspired me to be a better person. Her other books are just as wonderful.
I had the good fortune to go to the Hiding Place & I bought a clock from the clock shop. It is one of my dearest possessions. I am a florist and years later Corrie was in my home town to speak & we were asked to make a corsage for her to wear as she spoke. It is my all ll time favorite order, because she was such a great lady!
I loved how she asked God for the strength to forgive the Nazi soldier for what he did at the concentration camp (he was in the shower room of her concentration camp); it reminds me of Who we really need to turn to when the going gets tough.
It has been a lot of years since I read this book. It is still on my shelf. Many times over the years I would remember an incident from the book and the picture was still very vivid. A true sign of a good read.
I was a teenager when I read it, and could not understand why Corrie's sister felt such pity for the sadistic Nazis. Eventually I understood the emptiness of cruelty and psychopathy; the absence of love being the true hell on earth. Her sister's ability to display the love of Christ even reached some of the Nazis in the end. This book taught me the power of love.
This book taught me that real Christians cannot sit on the sidelines turning a deaf ear to the cries of the oppressed all around them. We must reach out and help those who cannot help themselves and we must be willing to sacrifice everything for what is right.
As a country we are heading in the direction of Naziism and will face the same type of persecution that the Jews did in Germany. In fact, in some countries (Syria, Egypt, the US) it has started already.

Corrie ten Boom's book, "The Hiding Place," opened my eyes to both how bad the Holocaust was - I was young when I read it - as well as how great God's grace is for us.
How nice to see this book brought up for discussion! Corrie ten Boom was a beautiful Christian. Her book Tramp for the Lord is inspiring. Hiding Place impacted me, deeply. Often, when I climb into bed on clean sheets, I think of Corrie's delight when she was released, had a wonderful hot bath and how thrilled she was to have clean sheets. I give thanks many times because of that one part of her book and I read it many years ago!
I never forgot the fleas. It taught me to look for the good in everything, every situation. It got me through my dad and brother in law's fatal bouts with cancer, my breast cancer, my sister's ovarian cancer, and now is getting me through another sister's leukemia. No matter what happens to me and those I love, I can see God at work. "All things work together for good to those that love God."
Inspirational, touching, heart-wrenching at times throughout the book.
I can only PRAY that I will have that kind of spiritual inner strength, courage, and faith if ever I went through something that evil...

This shows us God's timing is perfect, even in the midst of devastation and loss. He always has plan if we trust Him. This book encouraged me to trust Him in all circumstances, especially when I don't understand.
Love Cory ten Boom's novel, The Hiding Place. Read it twice, and each time my respect grows for her endurance. The Grace of God shines through her ability to endure. <3
When I first read this book I was not a Christian. By the time I finished, I was... I think that is self-explanatory.

I have been to the Ten Boom Watch Shop in Haarlem, the Netherlands, several times. It never ceases to inspire and amaze me. The details of the resistance are the topics of one of my own research projects I have been collecting information and writing about. It is the message that people do not have to be oppressed nor suppressed. We all should have the freedom to choose. And also there is an element of "right will triumph" in the end. If you think life is unfair.... then it probably isn't the end yet.
I can only wish that if I had been alive during this terrible time, I would have had the courage of the Ten Boom family. She and others like her saved 1/3 of the Jews of an entire continent. What an amazing woman.
It made me think of the things I should be thankful for, even when those things were very difficult. It helped me to be more forgiving. It made me look at the blessings that we get from our trials.
This book makes me re-evaluate my commitment to Christ. In much less trying times I cave alot instead of standing strong in my faith.
This book has been such an encouragement to me when times get hard. I think of all the hardships these women faced and am reminded to keep on believing and praying. We may not see the whys or understand the reasons but God knows and will complete his work. Just look at the marvelous witness their suffering produced in the end.
Life changing. The compassion I gained at 14 from this read grew into a deep love for the Jewish people and Christian's Jewish roots.
I read this book many years ago and have never forgotten it. In fact, I still own it. This site reminds me of how great a book it is and that I should re-read it.

I read this book every few years. Always it calls me to total commitment to God. -- at any cost.
I learned a valuable lesson about forgiveness via Corrie Ten Boom. If she could forgive those who were responsible for the death of her beloved family members,.. then, I, too,.. should be able to forgive anyone for anything. It is commanded of us to forgive.
The part of the book that always stands out in my mind was the part where Betty thanks god for the fleas and then explains to corrie that it is because of the fleas that they can study their bibles in peace from the guards
The beautiful simplicity of it amazed me and how she could find small goodness in every situation , two truly amazing women

I saw the movie when I was 19 and wept. My petty problems looked so small in the face of the vicissitudes faced by Corrie ten Boom. It made me very thankful for my life, problems and all!
I first read this book when I was 13 years old. My mother had met the author. I learned so much about selflessness and loss. Throughout my life elements of this book return to mind again and again.
