Have you been playing with tie-dye?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments No, that was Sandra! (Will will understand that.)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Don't talk about psychotic elephants!

(You'll remind me of my ex)

According to one zoo troll apparently we're infested by sycophants in our group...

Are they like wooly mammoths?"

That's probably one of the guys I fell out with on Amazon, then. They don't like it when authors and readers are nice to each other...

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No I don't think so, Will.

That troll has been posting nastiness over there for a couple years.

Imagine, if their life is so empty that trolling is the only way to fill it, it must have been a grim couple of years

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Yes. It makes me sad.

message 309: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments It's much more fun to tell a few jokes and have a laugh.

message 310: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments They despise us for enjoying ourselves and for loving books. How sad's that?

message 311: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments It is sad.

They'd be much better off joining us.

message 312: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I suspect they would see this as 'selling out'.

I don't think they've realised how blurred the line is between author and reader now

message 313: by Patti (baconater) (last edited Oct 31, 2012 09:54AM) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No I think it's more fundamental than that, Jim.

I'm afraid it's more a case of 'I'll reject you before I'll allow you to reject me'

If only they realised that we're all a bunch of bonkers rejects. :D

I first came across Trolls on usenet back in the mid 1990s. Picking up on your comment, which makes a lot of sense when I look back at my own experience, I wonder if the net has merely let emotionally maimed people out to play. The electronic equivilent of 'care in the community' where there is no care and the community is expected to cope with them.
There have been one or two interesting articles in the press recently where people have tracked down their trolls and discovered them to be the most unlikely people

The Vampire Mechanic has landed!

That would really hack them off on .com

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I seem to find it easy to annoy people on dot com, just by cracking jokes.

Must be a gift.

It is a gift I suspect I have, but I felt that I just didn't have time to exercise it

Sorry Jim. Been teaching all day so missed this. Probably shouldn't hijack Will's author thread. I do find it a fascinating topic though. :)

Jim | 21812 comments Will wrote: "You could get a lead, and ask someone to take it out for you?"

nah, they'd race it and it'd come back knackered

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments You have to lead into it first...

Jim | 21812 comments Patti (Migrating Coconut) wrote: Sorry Jim. Been teaching all day so missed this. Probably shouldn't hijack Will's author thread. I do find it a fascinating topic though. :) ..."

Teaching is my families 'other' profession. My mother, sister and numerous cousins are teachers. So I know where you're coming from with missing things :-)
Well if we don't hijack Wills author thread, he'd only plug his books or something
Move it to my author thread if you like :-)

message 331: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Doesn't make a difference to me. My stuff is so full of holes that plugging them is a life's work.

Chat on, Patti, it's fine by me.

message 332: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments My father was a teacher. he told me that if i went into teaching, he'd disown me.

Mind you, he'd always wanted to be a librarian.

message 333: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Sigh.

Wish I was clever enough to be a troll.

*throws random bits of cork at Will*

...bet he accuses me of constipating his creative flow....

message 334: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Patti, the only time I have a creative flow is when I've been on the curry....

Are you on the merlot too tonight then? Don't yu dare get cork in my glass!

message 335: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments No. I'm on 'wow, this place is empty and I'm waiting to hear from Dave.'

Sad, aren't I?

Could I please have a wee Pinot Grigio?

Or a very large scotch?

*throws damp cotton balls at Will. Giggles at where they stick*

Amazing how empty a house can get isn't it?
You can sit with us and keep bad company :-)

message 337: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Patti, you are welcome to some of the teenagers invading my house at the moment.

Five of them have just been failing (badly) to sing 'Sloop John B'. Teenagers. aren't they supposed to be rapping or something?

message 338: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Good lord
That's the number one song for my little sister (whose oldest child is twenty Something)

Tell your teenagers that and see if they shrivel with embarassment.

message 339: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments My teenagers? MY TEENAGERS????

They aren't mine. Thank Buddah. And in half an hour, I can get rid of them.

message 340: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Is the Buddah particularly good at removing teenagers? Or does he merely age them more rapidly?
Too much enlightenment probably does that to someone

message 341: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Teenagers were disaapointing ruly.

They even tidied up all the cans and bottles.

I fear for the younger generation.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments What? no mayhem? Police not called?

message 343: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments It's the standard teenage thing, to rebel you've got to do the exact opposite, do the things your parents daren't do.
Tidying up after themselves probably counts, it's reduced at least one parent to shock, what more could they hope for?

message 344: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I think I should go to the next party myself, to inject some life!

message 345: by Will (new)

Or maybe not, actually...
