It has been my business oracle and is a permanent fixture on my desk. Soul Trader is one of those rare mines of genius that just gets better with age and repeat readings.

Hard to believe the book is 10 years old now but, importantly, it gets even more significant as the years pass. We are living in a world where interaction among people in Western society is at an all-time low. The number of children who see their friends each day has halved in the last 10 years and the percentage of people who speak to their neighbours has reduced by 40%. This is a major problem and is creating a society of people who are not learning the skills of communication. For our current and future sole traders and business owners the inability to communicate spells disaster for their business. As the Soul Trader tagline reads - 'putting the heart back into your business' is an essential book for our future business owners.

I consider myself to be gregarious. But every time I read Soul Trader I learn something new. It is full of genuinely useful lessons that I can actually implement in a practical way.

The book gently and expertly guides and encourages us along the path of connecting with both ourselves and our customers in eight chapters - Clarity, Customers, Courage, Cooperation, Conversations, Creativity, Compassion, and Change.

It is expertly written, with all of the chapters perfectly linking up with one another. It is replete with self-reflective exercises that I personally believe you must do if you are to benefit fully - don't skip those as you'll need your answers later on in the book. Although it is easy to read and understand it is not a quick-read-then-discard type book. Nor should it be - the topic is far too important for that. The author clearly respects his reader and honours them by bringing to the fore what drives you.

I highly recommend Soul Trader to anyone involved in business. Frankly, it would be beneficial for anyone who has a job and interacts with anyone else. ...more "
