From the Detroit Free Press: Tigers change stripes, but will trades work?
This time of a year, being a baseball manager is like having a Rubik's Cube in your head. You keep spinning the combinations until you're dizzy.
"I was doing it before the trades were even made," Brad Ausmus said Thursday after the Tigers' very active day at the winter meetings. "The good news is, next season, the opposing pitcher is going to have to face, in some order, (Ian) Kinsler, (Yoenis) Cespedes, (Miguel) Cabrera, Victor (Martinez), J.D. (Martinez) and Nick (Castellanos). That's actually a pretty tough group of hitters to go through."

mitch albom: Winter comes early again and who knows what this team will look like next year
Winter began to creep into the city just after six o'clock Sunday night, courtesy of a man named Nelson Cruz - or, as he is known around here, Death. Cruz, the Baltimore Orioles' designated killer, swatted a David Price pitch in the sixth inning of a scoreless game and lifted it toward rightfield. It appeared, at first, to be a harmless foul.

From the Detroit Free Press: Lions have a winning record and a shot at glory
It's a winning season. Begin with that. The Lions won their ninth game Sunday to ensure a victorious record, the first in three years. Big stuff.
Next, there's December. The Lions have been abysmal in that month. Sunday's 34-17 victory over Tampa Bay was their first in December since 2011.
"Jeez," Calvin Johnson said, surprised. "I didn't know it was a couple of years."
No more.

From the Detroit Free Press: Holiday spirit of greetings is now text-friendly
The other morning, I was looking at TV. I had the sound off. I saw an attractive group of singers doing what appeared to be a holiday song. Since I am a sucker for Christmas music, I grabbed the remote and turned it up.
What I heard was this:
Text me Merry Christmas
Let me know you care
Just a word or two
of text from you
Will remind me you're still there
