DAY 145 - Tears Of Opportunity
When the grand doors of opportunity finally open, the pair of eyes that have beheld so many obstacles, including the curve ball that had literally nearly robbed them blind, will now fill with emotional triumph, until one by one the tear drops will begin to fall.
Each will represent the strength it took in the face of adversity to continue to strive, continue to overcome. From the messages of rejection that could have amounted to wallpapering a thousand homes, the long fight involving everything from everyday struggles...
...Looking at the name brands while having to pick up the generics..
...Acting like a customer at a fast food restaurant for a few packets of ketchup so as to add more flavor to the dry simple meals at home...
To struggles that are more painful on the heart...
Watching yet another scrape added to the many already inflicted on the inside of his wife's engagement ring as they test its value each and every time when he has no choice but to pawn it...
...Promising her as they window shop, that one day they too will be like the privileged passersby, whose bags of cool gadgets and new clothes are not as out of reach as it seems. For the day that they are able to have pockets without holes and fun shiny devices is but right around the corner, or so he would have her believe as he fights to keep the flame of optimism alive. One that had been lit so many years ago in childhood when those who he had called teachers, mentors, had instilled in him the belief that one can accomplish anything they set their mind to.
A belief he still holds true despite the countless doors of opportunity having been slammed in his face. As it is not only for his own soul that he keeps hope alive, but more importantly for his beloved. That one day their perseverance will indeed pay off, their greatest dream coming to fruition. That yellow diamond Baby On Board sign. That priceless gift that will be the creation of their forever bonded love. This is what will make the tears flow even stronger than all the previous ones, for opportunity to provide with his passion, with his talent, will mean beating the hands of that ever-threatening nonstop biological clock, once and for all being able to afford to have the totality of love known as child.
And so these are tears he will not try to stifle, not try to wipe away, for they will be the tears of completing the hardest journey he has ever known. Tears of a soul reaching its purpose.
Tears for the gift of someone believing...
Someone allowing...
Someone supporting...
Tears of opportunity.

DAY 144 - It Takes Talent...
...To Spot Talent.
Welcome my wonderful readers!
Today I thought we'd look a little beyond these six simple yet true words. A motto I believe in so much that I placed it on the first page of my autobiography, among the other three that I live by. (To read an excerpt from my life story, click this link, then click Preview below the book cover: http://www.lulu.com/shop/rico-lamoure...)
I've experienced the truth of this motto time after time in my own life, and found it very helpful through the rough patches to learn that I was not alone when it came to struggling to get someone to recognize my talent. Some of the most successful people in the world have had to fight their way through the ignorance of so-called powers-that-be, including...
J.K. Rowling, who's first novel of the Harry Potter series was rejected by twelve different publishers before a contract for it was finally offered. A dozen times! Can you imagine those so-called big wigs throwing away the hundreds of millions of dollars they would have stood to make if only they really had The Talent To Spot Talent?
Walt Disney, who was fired by a Kansas City newspaper because they thought "he lacked creativity."
Boy did he prove those imbeciles wrong!
Star Wars. Both United Artists and Universal passed on the opportunity to produce this film that would end up being one of the most profitable franchises of all time!
So the next time someone rejects your work, just remember, It Takes Talent To Spot Talent!
See you tomorrow:)

DAY 143 - Coming Of Age
Welcome my wonderful readers!
Ask people what their favorite decade is and I believe most would say the decade in which they came of age, for it is during this time that the world really comes alive for us. The freedom, the discovery, the overall wonder. For me, this was the 90's. Back when the internet was a word people were learning for the first time, with the use of it being no more than a small portion of their day. (Or week, as opposed to nowadays, where we can't imagine life without it!) A time when Color Me Badd was singing 'I Wanna Sex You Up'. (They should revive it for this new generation. 'I Wanna Sext You Up!') Back when it was still ok to go to an airport and drop off or pick up a friend or relative at the actual gate.
At the risk of sounding "old", yep, those were the good ol' days! And to think, somewhere out there in every town, every city, every state, a number of young people are going through that special time of Coming Of Age right now!
If you're one of them, do one of the greatest things you can do for yourself and cherish it! Take advantage of it! (This doesn't mean drink hard/party hard, because for the most part this is a waste of time, which you will realize in time.)
Got a fantasy? Go make it reality! But at the same time, the more you put into laying down the foundation of what you want to do in life, the more easier it's going to be for you to live out that goal when the time comes.
So yeah, practice the art of laser beam focus now and you'll have a helluva future etched out, so by the time you reach the age of looking back on your favorite decade, you'll do so with not only no regrets, but utter satisfaction!
See you tomorrow:)

DAY 142 - A Good Ear
Welcome my wonderful readers!
It's now been two months since I left BOCA, a Korean English academy where I taught writing for nearly a year before returning to my own writing on a full time basis.
One of the fundamentals I tried to instill into the developing minds of these young people is the importance to have a good ear. Like singers and musicians, writers need to have the ability to not only create with passion, but also to hear with objectivity if they are to have a high level of quality in their work.
What do I mean by "hear with objectivity"? Like a singer who's not in pitch and realizes this when they sing a few notes, writers need to read their own work as if they were reading another's, being able to identify if the literature reads smoothly or not. And like an out of tune singer in need of a vocal coach, some writers might need the hand of an experienced wordsmith to help them in their development of becoming a skilled storyteller.
Outside of finding a personal mentor, the best thing a writer can do to strengthen their craft is to read great literary works, for the more you go on these journeys told with words, the more your brain will absorb the artful use of vocabulary, proper structure, and other fine methods of the trade.
So once you sit down to write your own masterpiece, allow part of your editing process to be reading your work aloud to yourself, for when you develop a good ear as a writer, that process of what to change and how to change it will become second nature, to where the words, sentences, and paragraphs all flow together seamlessly.

DAY 141 - Summer Showers
Welcome my wonderful readers!
Like many other areas of the world, the weather here in Baguio City is out of whack, strong showers invading for a couple of hours a day on what's supposed to be afternoons of clear blue sky.
Back home in California spring is still in the air, but I've been away from my native four seasons for twelve years now, weather never having really been a source of anxiety until I experienced typhoon madness here in the Philippines.
We lost nearly everything we owned back in '09 due to flooding (pic in my autobiography: http://www.lulu.com/shop/rico-lamoure...)
and received absolutely no help from the government afterwards. (Most Third World countries have such a status because of their Third World mentalities, and this country's no different!)
Three years later, in 2012, we again were scattering like rats to higher ground(although not nearly as bad).
So yeah, like a veteran who jumps every time he hears the backfire of a passing car, whenever there's strong rain I can't help but feel a bit of post traumatic stress, and can't help but dread each and every rainy season in these parts.
And now thanks to climate change, 'tis the season to be anxious starts earlier and ends later-UGH!

DAY 137 - Destined
Welcome my wonderful readers!
Good to be back after that hiatus I had to take. But don't worry, I kept busy-LOL! (Adding new content to my website, finishing up my latest literary work, etc.) Not much has changed in the world these past couple of weeks, so we'll get right into today's news...
My latest novella, Destined, is now available! This is actually book #1 of The Book of Truths Quintet. Five novellas that are richly philosophical, each with its own set of characters and storyline. All linked by the mysterious and awe-inspiring character of Omit and his Book of Truths. For a more in-depth look at this quintet, (book covers and descriptions of each) check them out here on my facebook author page...
https://www.facebook.com/RicoLamoureu...
And now for an exclusive offer for YOU, my wonderful readers! As well as a few interesting tidbits about Destined that you'll also only find here...!
First off, for the next 24 hours, you can get a copy of Destined (instant download) at 50% off! Time is starting now, so click on over before it's too late...!
http://www.lulu.com/shop/rico-lamoure...
...Got your copy? Cool! And thanks so much for your support! I'm sure it's a story you soon won't forget!
And now for the few tidbits on Destined...
1) I first wrote the story as a screenplay, back when I was running around the maze of Hollywood. So while reading it, if you get the sense that it would make a great movie, now you know that it was originally intended for such!
Even after I stopped running in circles around the Hollywood Hamster Wheel I knew this story was so special that I just couldn't toss it into the what-could-have-been box of screenplays, and so I adapted my own work, and now here it is, released out into the world as if DESTINED!
2) John and Gloria Borelli, the two main characters of Destined, are actually named after my grandparents!
3) I've always been captivated by the world of Titanic, and as you will see when you read Destined, I pay a little homage to it with John and Gloria's story:)
4) I only got the idea for The Book of Truths Quintet when I was adapting Destined from screenplay to novella.
5) As you will find when you reach the end of Destined, I have included a substantial excerpt from book #2 that you won't find anywhere else!
So there you have it! You saved half off on your copy of this novella by purchasing it now, and you got to know a little behind-the-story secrets!
