M is for Mace Windu

Wow! The month of April is flying by. We're already to the letter 'M' of the A to Z Challenge, and there's only 25 more days until our Disney Trip, and only a few more than that to the Star Wars Weekend! Today we received our Magic Bands, reminding us just how close we are to our vacation.

So, getting back to Star Wars, Mace Windu was a Jedi Master of the High Council. In the movies he was portrayed by none other than Samuel L. Jackson. His unique purple sword made him stand out, and it is rumored that Jackson requested that specific color from George Lucas.

One of his most memorable duels was the one between Mace and Palpatine. Mace clearly had the upper-hand but Anakin intervenes, turning to the dark side when Palpatine lies and says he can show him how to save Padme. Poor Mace loses a hand, gets electrocuted and then falls to his death. That's a pretty bad day.

L is for Lando

"Hello, what have we here?"

He may have been the most charming man in Star Wars - Lando Calrissian, played by Billy Dee Williams.

Lando, the guy in charge of Cloud City, appears in the The Empire Strikes Back and instantly wins women over with his stunning smile and suaveness, right up until they find out he's betrayed Han Solo to Darth Vader and the bounty hunter Boba Fett.

Eventually, it becomes clear that Lando didn't really have a choice (I mean who could stand up to Darth Vader), and he has a change of heart where he decides to do the right thing to make amends, consequences to himself and his city be damned.

Lando helps Leia, Chewbacca, C-3PO and R2-D2 escape from Cloud City and even helps Leia rescue Luke after he loses his hand in the epic, "Who's your daddy?" battle with Vader.

Mr. Charming vows to help the group find and rescue Solo, and in the Return of the Jedi, they do just that.

K is for "Help me, Obi-Wan KENOBI. You're my only hope."

Obi-Wan Kenobi was one of the Master Jedi's portrayed by Sir Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor. I never quite understood why Obi-Wan went from being hot and young in the the first three episodes, then 18 or so years later is an old, white-haired man. Apparently being a hermit in the dessert is hard on a man.

I'm a big fan of the Ewan Obi-Wan in the newer movies. Obi-Wan tries his best to train Anakin Skywalker to be the "chosen one" Jedi they all thought he was supposed to be. Sadly, that didn't go so well for him. But they had pinned all their hopes on the wrong Skywalker, one generation too soon.

Poor old Obi-Wan didn't have much luck with Luke Skywalker either before he died in Episode VI. However, Luke eventually found his way, even though neither he nor Anakin/Darth were ever as bad-ass a Jedi as Obi-Wan.

J is for Jabba the Hutt

I bet you thought I was going to use Jar Jar Binks for today, right? Sorry Jar Jar, but no.

Jabba the Hutt was a big fat blob and notorious crime lord.  Although he was mentioned we didn't get to see him in the original movies until the Return of the Jedi. He was eventually added via CGI to a New Hope.

In episode VI, Han Solo is on the run from Jabba after losing Jabba quite a bit of money when Han dumps Jabba's cargo that he was smuggling for him. Jabba sends bounty hunters to search for Han and bring him back to Tatooine so he can punish him.

Unfortunately for Jabba, after he finally gets Han back, Luke, Leia, and Chewbacca come to Han's rescue. Leia was captured and forced to be Jabba's slave, but she eventually chokes Jabba to death while wearing the famous gold bikini.

I is for IG-88

Sadly, there is only one Star Wars character the starts with the letter I and that is IG-88. He was a robot bounty hunter and his only cinema appearance to date was in The Empire Strikes Back. Darth Vader hired him, and several other bounty hunters, including Boba Fett, to track down the Millennium Falcon.

More choices tomorrow!

H is for Han Solo

Han Solo is one of the most iconic characters from Star Wars. This character was played by Harrison Ford, who had the honor of being one of the few original actors who went on to be successful in other movies. His character in the Star Wars movies and many other ones have made women all over the world swoon, and he also managed to make Luke look like such a wimp.

Han's friend, copilot, and faithful sidekick was Chewbacca. The two of them together were a force to be reckoned with.

I asked my husband to put on his Han Solo costume he's going to wear at Disney's Star Wars Weekedn, and let me take a picture for my blog. So far I haven't had any luck, but I will not give up. Updates to come!

G is for General Grievous

General Grievous is an unforgettable character from Revenge of the Sith. He's the scary looking robot that could wield several lightsabers at the same time.

Who could forget the intense lightsaber duel between he and Obi-Wan Kenobi. The first time I saw it I was on the edge of my seat, thinking there was no hope for Obi-Wan.

Even though Grievous had the clear advantage in the fight, he was no match for the awesome Jedi Master. The force was strong with Obi-Wan when he took away Grievous's blaster, then turns it back on him, ending the fight.
