Review of Emma Holly's Menage
Since I loved reading Emma Holly's Billionaire Bad Boys Club, and actually didn't mind the M/M/F relationship, I decided to pick up one of her other books with the same combination, Menage. Looking back I now know that Menage was published a few years before BBBC, and reading the two that difference was obvious.
Unlike BBBC, the main character in Menage, Kate, is not very likeable. I understand she has just been through a divorce but she pretty much comes across as a bitch.
Menage begins with Kate coming home from work early and catching her two college renters, Sean and Joe, having sex in her bedroom. So what does she do? Well, she joins right in of course, blowing Joe while Sean pounds him. This just seemed so unrealistic that I had to role my eyes.
After that, the three get together regularly and have sort of a decent relationship. That part of the story was fine, but thrown in here and there were strange sex "games" that they played, which were just out there. Between that and the author's use of terms of anatomy that I've never heard of and are definitely not turn-ons, I forced myself to get to the end.
Joe who was a nice guy in the beginning, becomes an asshole at the end. Sean who is an asshole at the beginning turns into a sweet, sad guy you feel bad for. And Kate, well she pretty much remains a bitch the whole time, but maybe lightens up somewhat at the end.
It could be that I only felt so negatively about Menage because I had just read BBBC and it was an awesome book. So, if you're looking for something to read with M/M/F, skip this one and head straight to BBBC.
I give it ** and wished it had been more :(

Review of The Billionaire Bad Boys Club by Emma Holly
I'm not sure how I came across Emma Holly's The Billionaire Bad Boys Club but I found myself downloading the sample from Amazon. Even though the sample didn't really suck me in (no pun intended), I still purchased it for curiosity's sake, and I have to say it was a really great book. I enjoyed it so much I want to go back and reread it from the beginning, which I sort of glossed over the first time.
After finishing up my first paranormal romance novel with sexy scenes (shameless self plug: Blood Drive will be available for purchase on July 4, 2014) I'm now trying to figure out how and when the term "erotica" is used. Is it whenever a book contains a graphic sex scene or two, or is it mainly for books that focus on getting readers off on the sex while leaving the plot and characters weak and uninteresting?
So, back to my curiosity and my download of the this book, which I believe most would say falls under the erotica category. The first few chapters are quick introductions of the three main characters, Trey, Zane and Rebecca. It begins with how the unpopular bi-sexual outsider, Trey, finds out that his neighbor and popular star quarterback, Zane, is a closet bi-sexual and how the two of them become sexually involved with each other during high school.
There is also a quick glimpse into Rebecca's life at age sixteen. Her mother has recently passed away from an illness, and her father, unable to handle the stress of losing his wife and having to raise his three kids alone, abandons Rebecca and her young twin brothers. Rebecca is left in charge of taking care of not only herself but the twins, while trying to avoid anyone at school or social services finding out they are on their own. She ventures into cooking to be the caretaker her brothers need her to be and discovers her knack.
The book then quickly jumps ahead five years later when Trey and Zane are getting ready to graduate from college and go their separate ways. They've managed to hide their relationship since they both continue to want to sleep with other women, and their only rule is that neither of them will have any other male lovers.
Zane is still unable to come out and be open about his relationship with Trey, but he is not ready to leave him and their relationship behind. During dinner at a restaurant Zane asks Trey to become his business partner instead of leaving him. Their waitress just so happens to be the grown up Rebecca who has an instant connection with Trey.
Trey desperately wants to pursue Rebecca but knows to do so would risk throwing away the good thing he's got going on with Zane, and he wants to take Zane up on his business offer to see where it and their relationship will go.
Fast forward to a few years later when Zane and Trey's idea have exploded and they are now rich and powerful business men.
Trey still hasn't forgotten about Rebecca though, and when she applies for the head cook position in their new restaurant he has to see her again even though it may only increase his aching longing for her and ruin things with Zane.
What comes next is great character development for all three individuals. There is also a great story of how Rebecca wins over both Trey and Zane separately, and together they can offer her something she never thought she'd have with any one man, much less two.
My only complaints of this book is that there are some BDSM type scenes in which I had no idea what was going on. It may be that I simply lack the knowledge but it felt like with more description from the author I could have followed along better. Also, I felt like a dumb ass for not knowing some of the anatomy terms used. My preference has always been that the simpler and less proper the terminology, the sexier the scene.
So with that being said, I give the The Billionaire Bad Boys Club ***** and highly recommend it. My question was answered - A sexy book can still have amazing characters and an actual plot. Of course the cover might also aid you in your decision to purchase. Buy it here at Amazon now!

Blood Drive has an official release date of July 4, 2014!
July 4th holds it's own significance for Sam West. It's the day fifty-nine years ago that he was saved from eminent death and changed into a vampire. So, where can you find him today? How about the last place you would probably ever think to look for a vampire.
During a college blood drive fate introduces Sam to someone he instantly falls head over heels for. Kate feels the same way about Sam, however, there will be twists and turns that come between them, threatening to take away their happily ever after.
Sam will have to decide if mistakes can be forgiven, and if so, what is he willing to sacrifice to save the one he loves.

Y and Z is for Yoda and Zuckuss
Since the alphabet ends with "Y and Z" that's how this A to Z Challenge will end tonight. It has been a fun month. I've found a lot of great blogs to follow and hopefully gained a few followers myself. But I am happy for May so I can get back to blogging about writing and anything else that randomly pops into my mind. So here is the farewell to the Star Wars Takeover. Only 9 more days until Disney and I hope to get lots of pictures during the Star Wars Weekend to come back and add to this month's blogs. Thanks for visiting!
Of course Y is for Yoda. He was the fun-loving green Jedi who is full of knowledge, even if his words do tend to come out in a sort of strange order.
Finally, Z is for Zuckuss. Zuckuss was a bug looking bounty hunter. He appeared in The Empire Strikes Back. He was one of several bounty hunters hired by Darth Vader to track down Han's Millennium Falcon.

X is for Xanatos
None of the main movie characters could be used for X. Xanatos is from the Jedi Apprentice series and was trained by Qui-Gon Jinn. Xanatos eventually went over to the dark side.

W is for Wicket Warrick
Wicket Warrick, not to be confused with the name of the actor who portrays him, Warwick Davis, was the first Ewok shown in Return of the Jedi. He is the cute little guy that helps Princess Leia fight a few Storm Troopers.

V is for General Veers
Nope already used Vader. Veers is the guy from Empire Strikes Back who led the ground attack on Hoth in AT-AT walkers.

U is for Luminara Unduli
Slim pickings again today. I don't know much about Unduli. A Google search says she was a female Jedi and killed per Order 66.
