Florist Chang is white? The problem with asumptions

The kingdom diaries by Adam Snowflake ok so i was showing my story to a couple freinds and they all made the same asumptions about my book the kingdom diaries.

A. Flrorist is white

B. Andray is white

C. Otherkin was created for the book.

um no…I’m just going to clear this up on tumblr. Florist is chinese, her last name is Chang and she even says she’s not white at one point, Otherkin was not created for the purpose of this book, they were simply included in the book, Andray is black. I seiriously don’t know what about the name andray spells out white. I think it’s because he’s jewish and people asume their for he must be white.

important note: the only charecters that will ever have their race described in Flrorists telling of the story are charecters that are white. She grew up in a kingdom where white people wern’t commen, so to her they are the only ones who race is worth describing because to her they are foregin.

Examples: “he had skin the colour of uncooked marshmellows”

"she has an odd apearence as well, pail skin…"

"he was frail and had pail skin"

ect ect. Florist is from an almost all poc kingdom, so to her white people stand out. this also adds to why she doesn’t process that she’s expeireincing racist microagressinons in the book when they happen

"many people asume when they meet robin that they don’t speak english some people make that asumption about me as well…"

"people always stare…"

"people judge me more for my apearence than you would think"

It also explains how when she does experience blatant racism in Rohet she is shocked, stunned, and disgusted rightfully claiming the kingdom as evil.

Florist as a character comes from an intresting backround and thus doesn’t understand many things. She completly misses that her best freind has a crush on her. She totally misgenders practicly every charecter, she doesn’t understand gender roles or even process what they are.

She’s a supportive charecter but she also misses a lot of things. So be aware of that when reading the book.

If you want a free copy message me and if your willing to do a liveblog, tumblr and or goodreads review I’d be happy to send you one.
