Did you model anyone in the book after people in real life?

Trinity Vinton Yes. Not wittingly, but after examining my characters from a distance as if they weren't my own, I saw the people I knew in them. I think Ethrund and Ethelmaer and Thalior are all my Dad in character: strong, willing to sacrifice everything for family and what they understand to be their duty. I found Killian is like me in a lot of ways, too. And I think Torin is like my older brother, shrewd and observing, but altogether a really fun person to be around. :) I'd say Ivor and Folkvar are both like my Grandpa, however different they may be in character, he's both of them at times. Mostly like Folkvar though, he's hilarious. XD
