A Goodreads user asked James L. Thane:

"No Place to Die" involves a lot of police procedures and protocol ... how did you research this aspect of the book?

James L. Thane I found a number of books that are used in police academies and other training programs regarding the techniques of police investigations and these were very useful in terms of learning the basics of a homicide investigation. I was also able to interview a Phoenix homicide detective a couple of times. He very patiently answered my questions about how such an investigation would be conducted by the Phoenix PD and also gave me a tour of the Homicide Unit at the PD headquarters which was very helpful.
