I love Lorn. He snuck up on me, too, halfway through writing The Shadow Reader. He was a completely unplanned character who I can't get enough of. I'd love to write more about him. If he's still alive. :-) (Knowing him, he probably is.)
As for why Kelia used Lorn to get back at Naito? Well, that goes into some backstory. I'm working on a novella about how Kelia and Naito met. Not sure when I'll have it complete because I have a few other projects to complete first.

Please tell me you bring in a wonderful supporting cast of characters for book two of the Anomaly series. Your side characters were one of my favorite parts of the Shadow Reader series. I understand that there's not really room for a bunch of side characters in a chase book, but I really hope to see them in book two! Goodreads won't let me post this without one of these "?". :)
