✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I haven't managed to do anything wool/thread crafty lately but, if anybody was looking for easy Easter goodies to make then I made the two biscuits on here with my two Brownie groups, even the leaders had fun making the hedgehog!! http://faeriegirl6.wordpress.com/2013...

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments I just bought some baby snowball wool to make wee blankets for my sister in law and my cousin, can't wait for it to arrive!

message 706: by [deleted user] (new)

Ooh, looking forward to seeing how they turn out, Jud. I've often wondered whether it would be possible to crochet with some of these unusual threads, but not sure how they would work out...

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Just finished a patchwork/quilted cushion! it's getting seriously addictive now. Will post a pic tomorrow.

Looking forward to BBC2 8pm Tuesday - a sewing prog for a change. Sounds like a Great British Bake-off only for dressmaking.

Just uploaded the photo of the cushion

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments I saw the trailer Karen! Looks interesting.
I spent about an hour in WH Smith's recently browsing the craft magazines and noted there were lots of new sewing ones. There was one on upcycling clothes that took my attention mainly because son's partner is into vintage and hippy type clothes.

message 717: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Don't forget - it's the sewing prog tonight 8pm!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I'm looking forward already to the Great British Iron-Off and the Great British Wash-Up!

Very lovely work Karen, A lot of effort and it certainly paid off. Clever lady.

message 721: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Thanks Pat. I really loved doing it - a small project, so it didn't take all year!

Just watched the sewing Bee - wow, I'm amazed at what they all produced. What stars.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments I enjoyed the programme - I wasn't sure that dressmaking could be a spectator sport but apparently it is!

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Definitely 'enthusing' ! loved the steampunk guy

Today's free craft books

Hemp bracelets

Crochet (has been free before)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00394DSLW...

Please feel free to post any others that you notice. I used to get an email from KUF which had a hobbies and crafts genre, on the freereadfeed and ereaderiq the genre is home and garden - which covers much more so is harder to pick out just the craft books.

HeHe! That tickled me as well Rosemary! Really enjoyed the programme. As a teenager I made most of my clothes as I was so skinny it was the only way I could get a proper fit, sadly I no longer have that problem.
Your cushion is so beautiful Karen!

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Thanks Sarah
Interesting, after the Sewing Bee, think there's def been a spike in sales of bias binding makers! - quite a few of us on the craft forum have now gone and bought one...

message 728: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I had no idea there was even such a thing as a bias binding maker! May have to go get one now. I can definitely relate to them trying to sew things outside of their skill level. I do it all the time!

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Thanks, looks interesting so I've nabbed it

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments How is your crochet going Karen? Have you been to the Craft Fair yet?

message 734: by [deleted user] (new)

I backed out of the craft fair in the end, for various reasons. At the mo I am busy crocheting gifts for family - I made a zig zag blanket for our grandson and am just finishing one off for my nephew. Then there are blankets to make for my mother-in-law, neice and my other nephew. I'm hoping that they will show them off to their friends and that I will get some orders in that way. I've made scarves and little things, but they didn't sell. Blankets are what I really enjoy making because I get the chance to be more creative with them. I'll post some photos later.

Thanks for asking.

:0)

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Wow Karen you have been busy and still lots to do! I look forward to seeing the photos!

message 737: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments I've picked up the Scrapbooking one - but the link for the foam dolls is showing it's £6 odd, so think I'll pass on that...
Thanks for all the links tho Karen

message 738: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I've started making a blouse but realised that I left my interfacing for the collar at uni and the iron has put a horrible black mark over the chest area. And I think I got the front seams wrong but the instructions were impossible.
I've also drafted an underbust corset pattern that I will make when all the fabric and materials come through.
There are a bunch of other patterns in the post. I seem to be collecting them as I'm sure I'll have time to make them all.
I need to get back onto my scrapbooking. There must be a year since I've done a page. Oops, everything was focused on sewing and card making.

message 739: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Must admit, my scrapbooking's taken a back seat now the quilting & sewing's taken over.
Hope you get yr blouse sorted Emma.

message 740: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Thanks, I might go and buy a new iron to keep it from happening again. My dad was throwing out a bunch of shirts so I'm going to use them for material.

message 741: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I've just taken up knitting again and I've finally learnt to cast on. I'm going to try and make a little pouch first - it's made of several rectangles!

message 742: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments I think I forget how to cast off after every project and have to relearn

message 743: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Took me forever to remember how to cast on. I still have trouble when I start something new cause I do it so rarely.

message 744: by ✿Claire✿ (new)

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments I've found a method using my thumb to cast on and I managed to do an inch of knitting last night while catching up on the sewing bee! I seem to have chosen the best sort of yarn as it hides my mistakes!!

message 745: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments It's why I stick to sewing over knitting. That and things come together quicker and I can draft or adjust my own patterns. Although that's probably more practice than anything else. I'm about to start a big project with a victorianesk coat and skirt with a corset and chemise and a cloak if I have the money for it. But I want to use nice heavy, good quality wool and I need 6m for the cloak and 10m for the coat and skirt (might not use wool for those as I want them machine washable) so it might be quite expensive. Which is so very frustrating. Maybe I need to start sewing for other people so that they pay for the materials and I still get to have fun. (Then they would also get hand made and custom fitted things for less than the cost of normal clothes most of the time)

message 746: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Sounds like the beginnings of a business plan to me Emma :o)

message 747: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments ... I'd love to be able to make my own clothes

message 748: by Emma (new)

Emma Faragher | 301 comments Making clothes is quite easy, making them fit is slightly more difficult.
I do all the fixing and adjusting for my family and housemates clothes. No time to make it a business though. LOL. Maybe when I'm old enough to retire I'll set up an etsy shop or something to fund the next project. If I ever have children they will either be the best or the strangest dressed children ever I think.

Philip (sarah) Willis | 4630 comments Good luck with the pouch Claire!
What a shame about your blouse Emma. Maybe you could applique over the mark to hide it.
I am currently embroidering a ring cushion as a present for a friend whose son is getting married.I was using ivory satin thread with an additional glitter filament but the thread was running out and the shop I bought it from has stopped selling it. I can't buy it online as I removed the skein number when I put it on a bobbin. Trying to work something out using the wee bit thread I have with a similar coloured cotton thread but not too happy with the result.
Phil reckons you can't see the difference and it is only me who knows where the change is. I don't want to start again as working the thread on same coloured material is very hard on the eyes. Rant over! HeHe!
