Molly (Wade) Jennings (goodgmissm) | 41 comments Well, since there were such slim pickings in my hometown library for audio books, I wasn't able to find any of the great recommendations you made for my Denver trip. I decided to revisit "The Historian" and also chose a James Patterson mystery that was at least entertaining enough to keep me away on the long drive across Kansas! Sadly, though the CDs for The Historian turned out to be very much abused and so I wasn't able to finish because of the CD skipping. I'm keeping the recommendations list, though, and will look for those books for the next road trip!

Nancy I said hello on another thread, but I'll do my formal introduction here. My name is Nancy, I live in South Carolina and I started my life as a reader and book lover before kindergarten. And considering that I'm in my early 50s now, I've been reading for a very long time now.

I read both fiction and non-fiction. With fiction I read historical romances, some mainstream fiction, erotica, horror, fantasy, erotic romance, crime novels, historical novels, and some women's fiction. I'm very eclectic in my tastes for non-fiction, since I have a lot of different interests.

I'm a full-time veterinary technology student. In my spare time when I'm not reading textbooks or for pleasure I love to belly dance, cook, bead, travel and attend Renaissance faires.

I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here and joining in the discussions.

Yes! It was a lovely read! Initially I felt a little cross, because I did not expect this to be another one of his attacks on religion and so on. Being of a Christian faith myself, I was truly astounded at how a man on his deathbed absolutely denies faith right until his last breath. But then, he had hope. The later part of the book took a new shape altogether. And for me, it brought forth a sort of mini-epiphany, on how hope defers from faith and probably trumps it.

message 255: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 8208 comments Thanks, Sajo. I'm hoping to read it this summer.

message 256: by jocelyn (new)

jocelyn (yogiwithabook) Hi everyone! I am a recent college graduate and trying to get back into the habit of reading all the time. During school, I wasn't able to read as much or as often as I wanted, so I would just have to book-binge during summer and winter breaks.
I love many types of books, but most of them have some sort of supernatural or fantasy element in them. Probably my favorite book is Carlos Ruiz Zafon's The Shadow of the Wind, but I have a soft spot for all the stories I read growing up that kept me searching for more and more books to devour.
Besides reading I also love traveling and my boyfriend has introduced me to cinema in a very new way. I also like being active. My name, Joz, is actually a nickname my boss gave me for a summer I worked in Barcelona, Spain.

message 257: by Carol (new)

Carol | 7657 comments Hi, Joz, I have Shadow in my to be read pile, as well as the sequel. I am hoping to get to them sometime this year. My reading has slowed quite a bit this year.... life has gotten in the way. LOL

message 266: by Carol (new)

Carol Saxelby Hi I'm Carol. I'm from the UK. I've been reading for 50 years, and although my bookshelf looks very small, that's really because I just can't remember all of the books I've read in my lifetime. I go through about 3 a week (I commute 4 hours a day by train), so I can't really keep up with all that I read. I also like to re-read books I particularly enjoy. I don't know if I'll be participating in the group reading, it will really depend on what my reading plans are and whether or not the current book you're all reading appeals to me.

Liz Campbell (thinkableinlife) | 2 comments This is a new group for me! I'm always excited when I come across groups that have great books and great participation. I'm soon to be a stay at home mommy with my second little bundle of joy, and I often times need help finding things to read to fill my time. I read constantly, and blog when I remember. Mostly my goal is to just continue finding new things to read.

Sue (sueb67) Hello,
I'm Sue and I live in Australia. An avid book reader, I can't remember ever not having books around and I love them still. Looking forward to being a part of this group. As I'm currently studying a Visual Arts degree I may be a fairly quiet member of the group. :)

message 279: by Anthony (new)

Anthony Land (goodreadscomanthony_land) | 8 comments Hello, all! Anthony here. I'm fairly new to Goodreads and it's been a revelation. When I started listing the books I've read over the past six decades (yep, I'm that old), I realized that books are even more important to me than I would have thought--and I've written for a living since I was 18 years old. I don't know why it was such an epiphany. There are six well-filled bookcases in view from where I sit and they are just what Sharon, my bibliophile wife, and I have collected since Hurricane Katrina drove us out of New Orleans. I'm sure I have another bookcase worth loaded on my Kindles. So a group called Constant Reader is definitely the place for me!

message 283: by Dianne (new)

Dianne | 35 comments Hi, I'm Dianne, from the east coast of Canada. I've always been a avid reader, but have become a "constant reader" in recent years as health problems freed up a lot more time for it. I write about my reading in a blog but find there isn't much discussion happening there so I was happy to find Constant Reader on Goodreads. I love knowing what other people think about the books I'm reading and finding things in their comments that I've missed completely. It's a never ending learning experience.

My current "to be read" list has about 1600 titles on it and I add to it every time I log on here. My "unread" shelves at home have 73 books waiting for me. I use an e-reader, but mostly for reading in the middle of the night when I can't turn the light on. I love the look, smell and feel of paper books so as long as they're being printed I won't be giving them up.

My favourite genres are classics/fiction, travelogues and bio/autobio but I'll read just about anything that grabs my attention. I'm looking forward to discussing books with you.

Kim-Lost-In-A-Book Welcome Dianne!

message 286: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello everyone! I'm Keith and I'm from New Jersey, US. I've always had a thing for reading, especially fantasy, but now I just can't stop reading! I currently also blog about writing and mechanics behind writing stories, so I'm reading anything in anything nonstop! Today, I just picked up a book and finished it within an hour and I have countless books on my "to be read" list, just like Diane. my favorite genres are High Fantasy, horror, fiction, and research. I know that may sound like an odd group, but I always find myself reading in those categories. I look forward to discuss books with everyone here!

message 287: by Emma (new)

Emma (emma_louisa) Hi everyone! My name is Emma and I'm from San Francisco California but currently living in Bangkok, Thailand. I love all types of books, and have long been a "guinea pig" for librarians when they weren't sure about the quality of a book. I have recently gotten into non-fiction (after spending the majority of my life reading mostly fiction) especially books that discuss social issues and religious philosophies. I'm really happy to become a part of this group and can't wait for some amazing discussions!

Robyn Hello everyone,

My name is Robyn and I am currently living in Texas. I think of myself as an aspiring constant reader. Sadly work, school and toddlers get in the way : )

As far as book genres go I really enjoy reading any and all books. Recently I have been wanting to read more classics and after poking around a bit on this group I realized this was exactly what I needed to get me started on that journey.

Looking forward to meeting new booklovers and finding some great new books to add to my shelf.

I joined your group because I loved the books on your lists and/or they were books I wanted to read. i always appreciate suggestions. message 297: by Gracey (new)

Gracey (graceyysims) Hi,
I'm Gracey, a nurse and booklover from Philippines. I'm new on Goodreads and I already find this addictive. Reading book reviews from different people with wide-range of knowledge in literature is quite overwhelming yet motivating, since I'm a frustrated writer. =) I look forward to making new friends who can impart their knowledge and help me become a good critic and a good writer. I love to learn a lot and I want to have new friends from different cultures. =)

Sherry | 8261 comments Welcome, Gracey. Nice to have you here.

message 299: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia Connor (cjsounds70) | 3 comments Hello,

My name is Cindy. I am a Mother of three wonderful children, grown with 1 grandchild, Aiden, whom is my pride and joy, along with my children. I live in Tennessee with all of them and my boyfriend Keith. I love to read, watch true crime television shows, or any kind of crime shows, and do crafts such as crocheting and plastic canvas. I love the outdoors and love to camp and fish. I enjoy traveling to places I have never been.

I joined Goodreads about a month or so ago and was looking around on the site today for something new. I ran across the groups tab and your group "Constant Reader" caught my eye first. I read a little bit of something everyday and every night before going to bed. I catch myself reading 2 or 3 books at one time sometimes. I find that if they all have different story lines, that I am able to follow along with them fine. I kind of enjoy doing it because I don't get tired of one story line that way.

I joined your group also because I think it is going to be lots of fun reading and giving feedback or advice, or whatever you call it to all the other readers. Like you said in your orientation letter or something similar, reading is more fun if there is debates about it. It makes people more apt to read something that they may have never thought to read before. I read the list that is being read now and, to be honest, am not truly interested in any of them. But, how do I know what they are like if I don't read them, right? So, I am going to give it a try...

Well, have a great day all and "Happy Reading"...
