David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Seems you have good taste then MT. Hope you enjoy it as much as Ignite did.

Does Jim double up as a DJ: weddings, birthdays, etc.?

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments He's a farmer, and farmers have to turn their hands to many things.....

message 412: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments So he does turn his hand to a turn-table... possibly the odd Turner forgery

Jim | 21812 comments David wrote: "So he does turn his hand to a turn-table... possibly the odd Turner forgery"

I'm not sure about Turner, but if Dido had needed a hand building Carthage, I'd have been a useful sort of person to have about.

Indeed some of us even write fantasy (which might come as a surprise)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Was that before she collaborated with Eminem and became famous for singing?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments David wrote: "Was that before she collaborated with Eminem and became famous for singing?"

Yes I had my Didos confused as well. (potential for a typo there....)

message 417: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I hadn't realised carthage was hand built.

Was it an early Blue peter project?

message 418: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Could have been one ell of a slip

Wasn't it the month before Tracy Island?

message 420: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments I made that one...

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments There's no need to sing it.

You can see the toilet roll inners and the sticky black plastic if you look carefully

Sorry but you'd have to pick it up and look at the bottom

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Thats a little big for me to pick up. I need an anti-gravity device of some kind.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments The long wall sections are clearly cornflake boxes

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments How can you tell - they could be rice crispies!

message 431: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Thanks to all who have purchased or added "Alloria".
Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

message 432: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments I was asked on ss wordsmith.com if Alloria would be suitable for a ten year old that reads above her grade and found it a difficult question to answer. Does anyone know how to rate a book in this way; are there any set criteria? Apparently the ten year old in question has read all the harry potter books, so if they're okay I think Alloria will be too.

message 433: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments I'd take the easy way out, is there any 'graphic sex' or 'graphic violence'
If the answer to that question is no, then pass the book across.

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments You can only recommend suitability in the broadest sense so I'd agree with Jim. I really don't think it's the author's responsibility to judge who the book is suitable for - you don't know the child in question. Leave it to someone who does know her, that's their job!

message 435: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Yes. Thanks for that. Pretty much confirmed my own thoughts on the matter

message 436: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments I'd say it was but there's nastiness in there. You must assume that a ten year old reading Potter is able to cope with this though. To the parent, I'd say, 'Read it yourself and make the judgement'.

message 437: by David (last edited Mar 14, 2013 01:58PM) (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Thanks Ignite. I said it was probably on par with Harry Potter for tone, but I've not read them all and I believe they get darker. I also pointed them to the look inside, as that gives a good feel for the tone of the book because it shows the first 9 chapters. Looked in the library this morning at junior fiction and the spectrum of suitabilty and style is vast.

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Posting on Will's thread with GL random rhymes suddenly began popping into my head. Does this happen to anyone else, or am I the only one who has a section of their brain given over to a Dr Zeus way of thinking?

Don't argue with it,just scribble it down and store it somewhere until you can use it :-)

That's the one. 'You never know when they'll come in useful' :-)
Today I've been rushing about doing things and just not had time to write

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments Interesting... You'd need holes in the back of your winter coat

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I suspect that might be summer wear.

message 449: by David (new)

David Staniforth (davidstaniforth) | 7935 comments You seem well informed GL ;~)

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments On underwear? Well only inasmuch as I do wear it. When I absolutely have to.
