The Cuckoo's Calling

Putting aside American Gods again - just can't seem to stick with it - as well as Cold Comfort Farm - not doing anything for me & I fail to see the humor - & have started Above by Isla Morley. She's a local author & will be coming to our book club meeting this month. (So far, it's pretty slow. How does one criticize a book when the author's sitting right there??)

I'm 3/4 of the way through The Perfume Collector and liking it very much and I am also listening to Middlemarch on audio and finding it a bit tiresome but it keeps me busy when I am cooking, cleaning or walking the dog.

I'll be finishing Dear John that I started in February :)

currently reading Coming Home by Rosamunde Pilcher. Really good one. like prying into someone's journal. :)

A little over 3/4 way in Perfume Collector - good read! Just starting In Praise of Hatred.

pick up Gone Girl yesterday just started it!!! finished The Air We Breathe- Christa Parrish it was one of the best books I have read I recommend this book great read from the first page!

I finished The Perfume Collector and really liked it - I recommend it.

I am now halfway through A Tale for the Time Being and but have struggled to keep going. It was really difficult to get into but now that I am halfway done I am interested enough to finish reading it (which I hope is soon because I have a bunch of other books I need to get to)

I finished Dear John last night and now starting Under the Tuscan Sun

I also just started The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and it is very cute so far.

I read this a while ago and really enjoyed the historical setting with the Bohajalian style and twist. Believable characters, fantastic description, and complex relationships. Very interesting read.

I just finished The Rosie Project, and I loved it!

I'm finishing up Wild by Cheryl Strayed. Hiking the PCT vicariously.

Looking forward to starting A Museum of Extraordinary things by Alice Hoffman when I'm done.

Also reading the YA Paper Towns by John Green. If you have a person in your life between 12 and 18 and you haven't read John Green then you need to get on it! He is not only very popular with the teens but he is compelling and relevant as well. Good stuff.

Finished Necessary Lies. Really liked it - 4.5 stars! Started Visitation Street.

Angela, how is the pulitzer prize nominee? I hadn't meant to read The Son but after some rave reviews & this nomination, guess I must!

Lela, I'm about 20% in ( reading on my kindle) and so far I like it a lot - great writing but it is pretty violent at times . I think it's going to be worth the read .

You are about where I left off...You're right, it was a bit violent in the bomb scene, but I thought she did that well...She's very long-winded though (tons of non-nonsensical lists that make the prose drag). I think this book could have been massively cut.

I think Lela meant The Son which I have just started reading , which was a Pulitzer nominee , not The Goldfinch which was the winner. My response was about The Son - just to clarify .

Well, I am listening to it and I am on the 3rd CD out of 12 CDs. I'll sure let you know. So far it sounds very promising as there is also a love story parallel to her quest of getting accepted to Albany's Medical School.

I read it too and really enjoyed it. I read it after The Invention of Wings and The Kitchen House. I felt very empowered as a woman.

I'm convinced that I have to read Mary Suttet .

It's amazing how far women have come in this world and these three books(and I'm sure many others) have helped to make this point vividly clear!
