I also was reading it for a book club that is meeting on April 16th - can't wait to discuss it.

I stayed up late last night to finish it and I just loved it but I agree, it IS shocking.

I have three grown daughters and I want all of them to read it - any time a kid complains how rough they have it their parent should give them that book to read.

I was so angry at her parents - I cannot fathom how people bring children into this world and then are so selfish. Her parents never once put the welfare of their children first - truly horrible.

I would love to do a buddy read on Luminaries. End of April or some time around then would be great, so I too can request from
Library and not sure how long the wait is. My reading is list is pretty full until next month anyway.

message 422: by Icewineanne (new)

Icewineanne | 114 comments The library wait in our city, for either The Luminaries or The Goldfinch, is a long one. That's why I decided to pre-ordered pb copies of both. Plus I hate carrying around a huge HB - don't you?

The books are both due to be released soon. I can't wait to begin reading them!!

message 434: by Lela (new)

Lela (lacslc) | 191 comments I really liked Gone Girl, too, but some of my friends (GR and not) didn't like the ending at all! I don't know why exactly. It worked for me.

message 435: by Jo (new)

Jo (bestsellerbooklist) | 2 comments You definitely should move it up the list. I loved it. Not usually my genre but I went straight from this to a Linwood Barclay and then a Sophie Hannah. It's a hard act to follow

message 436: by Beth (new)

Beth | 108 comments Gone Girl is a great story - I couldn't put it down and recommend that everyone who has not read it yet, reads it.

message 437: by Liis (new)

Lorrea - WhatChaReadin'? (whatchatreadin) Frog Music by Emma Donoghue and listening to Triptych (Will Trent, #1) by Karin Slaughter

message 439: by May (new)

May (mayzie) | 589 comments Hi, Lela, I'm one of those readers you just referred to. Loved the book, it had me enthralled , could not put it down. Then I got to the ending. I was so incredibly disappointed!!!
I felt like we, the readers, had been led on & sold out.

message 440: by Lela (new)

Lela (lacslc) | 191 comments Yeah, I can see that. There was some cop out but I still liked it.

message 441: by Lela (new)

Lela (lacslc) | 191 comments May, did you read Winter's Tale? That ending wasn't my favorite and neither was And the Mountains Echoed. WT was just a let down. ATME left me scratching my head. Seemed like the author just rushed through it because he wasn't sure how to end! I normally really love his writing so I was confused & disappointed.

message 449: by Liis (new)

Liis Sorry, girls, but I'm out doing buddy read for The Luminaries - I have tried to read it couple of times and I just can't get into it and I don't wanna waste my time on 800+ pages book just to realize I could have read something way more interesting.

message 450: by Cathy (new)

Cathy (granniepurpyl) I just downloaded The Luminaries from the library onto my Kindle. I'm in for the buddy read!
