Michelle | 79 comments Just started reading Hide and Seek by Jack Ketchum. I wish I could finish a book before buying a new one. It's like an addiction.

message 102: by [deleted user] (new)

I had to laugh at this one Michelle. I do the same thing even though I can't afford it.

Please try not to over-do it, Cindy. Especially during the hot summer months.:)

message 104: by [deleted user] (new)

I love my friends! Thank you Dustin, although I didn't really want to hear that. I don't like to slow down, but I've always heard when two or more people tell you the same thing, well it's time to take note. Several people have told me I need to chill a bit. Hmmm

message 105: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Ah, I love you all, too! You are most welcome. I only say it because I value our friendship, and I genuinely care.

We do have a fantastic group here! Thanks guys!

Darlene Deluca (darlenedeluca) | 12 comments Hmmm. I think I'm still on the same book that I was the last time I posted! Sigh. Sweet Salt Air by Barbara Delinksy. But I have to switch gears soon and read Silence by Shusaku Endo for book club.

message 111: by [deleted user] (new)

Glad I'm not the only one who is still reading books from twenty years ago! OK, so I felt the need to exaggerate a little :).

Rick Shepard Cindy wrote: "Glad I'm not the only one who is still reading books from twenty years ago! OK, so I felt the need to exaggerate a little :)."

I don't think you're alone there Cindy. A huge portion of my books are from years ago. I get the impression that's one of the dangers of being a book lover/collector. Too many books, never enough time, increasing backlog. As problems go, I'm good with that:)

message 113: by GeneralTHC (new)

GeneralTHC Mister Slaughter (Matthew Corbett, #3) by Robert R. McCammon

McCammon has all ways been one of very favorites but this Matthew Corbett series has given me an even greater appreciation for his writing. This is why he disappeared for 10 years.

message 114: by [deleted user] (new)

10 years is a long time for someone to disappear. Glad to hear you are liking the series Chuck.

message 115: by Lina (new)

Lina (booksnotlovers) Trying to get back into Lord of the Rings. I've had it on hold for way too long now.

message 116: by [deleted user] (new)

That's kinda funny in a way Lina. I bought the box set, including The Hobbit & The Lord of the Rings about three months ago. I have read The Hobbit and gotten no further. *sigh*

The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring are both amazing, but The Two Towers are so heavy and long. I have about 100 pages left of that one though, and I hope to get it done by the end of next week (I read stuff in between). But they are definitively worth reading!

message 118: by [deleted user] (new)

I have heard that it is an excellent series as a whole. Plan to start reading The Fellowship of the Ring sometime next month. Probably closer to the end of the month. Thanks Lina!

message 119: by Anthea (new)

Anthea | 19 comments The Two Towers was my favorite of the LOTR books. Also of the movies.

message 120: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard I remember reading The Hobbit, and then the trilogy over a summer years ago when I was in high school. I absolutely loved it, but I remember it took all summer to get through the books. I don't know if it was because I was younger or because the stories were so involved. I never did read The Silmarillion.

This was recommended to me a few months back, and I've been curious about it every since. How sick, twisted, and disturbing is it, exactly?

message 128: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Seaberg (cricketseaberg) | 241 comments Completely. I'm making faces of horror as I read, but I can't put it down! Damn this work stuff! If I didn't have to be here, earning a living, I'd be home reading! It's quite gory, but geez, it's so good!!

This series looks interesting but I want to ask one question ... any animal cruelty? I'm all about sick, twisted and disturbing books but they can sometimes involve animal cruelty and that I can't stomach.

GeneralTHC Officially I have eight books going now. Ulysses: which I really need to get back to but'll plenty happy if I finish it in the next few months. Infinite Jest: I really need to get back to this too. The goal is to finish it by the end of the summer--it's a piece of cake after ULYSSES. Gravity's Rainbow: I started this a couple weeks ago. It's not nearly as hard as ULYSSES or IJ. Cutting for Stone , Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone: I plan on reading this whole series over the next month. Deeply Odd: This is the last available one in series so I'm taking my time with it. The Catcher in the Rye, and Mister Slaughter: This series is what I've been primarily focusing on as of late. If I finish this today I'll probably start the next in the series. I just can't help myself. :)

message 134: by [deleted user] (new)

Well now, let's see. I am currently reading a couple of books by members of this group who happen to be authors and then a few other books. Here is my list: Showdown, Killer Rumors (group member), Flowers in the Attic, World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War, and And On The Sixth Day (group member).

message 135: by Courtney (new)

Courtney | 40 comments I just started Trapped by Jack Kilborn and I'm almost finished Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, which has impressed me with how good it is. I'll definitely be reading more by this author.

message 136: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (crackedx_spine) I'm hearing a lot about Gone Girl. Definitely need to look into it.

message 137: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 79 comments I'm reading: NOS4A2 by Joe Hill , Hide and Seek by Jack Ketchum , The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien , Changes (The Dresden Files, #12) by Jim Butcher and Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes . I should have finished one of these by now ... sigh :(

message 138: by Rick (last edited Jul 22, 2013 06:05PM) (new)

Rick Shepard I'm trying to finish World War Z, and then I plan to start both A Conspiracy of Paper, and A History of the World in 6 Glasses. Somewhere in there I need to finish a review copy I won of Sloughing Off the Rot, and I'd really like to start reading Screamscapes by our own Evans Light. I'm not sure how this is all going to happen. I'm also reading A Man in Full during breaks at work. I think we all share a common problem.

What a great book! Wow! Now I've put Angel's other books on my ever-expanding to-read list. And I discovered this is the first book of a trilogy! Awesome! Off to get the next one!

GONE GIRL was a really, really good one. The audiobook was amazing. It had a male and female narrator for each part. I should have given it five stars, in hindsight.

I'm listening to the audio! I agree, this is the best audiobook I've ever listened to. Both narrators are fantastic, but the girl in particular is absolutely perfect as Amy.

I'll probably finish it today. I can't wait to hear how it ends!

Not usually one of my favourite genres, but it is really, really good. You should definitely check it out.

Okay, so I checked out the description of Hillary Flesh and Blood, after you were talking about how sick and twisted it was, and it does look really sick and twisted. I think I may have to pick the first one up and check it out. I also enjoy a little sick and twisted in my reading at times:)
