I have The Novellas but haven't read the book yet. What was your overall impression of the book Adam?

Adam Light (goodreadscomadamlight) | 603 comments I thought it was bookended by two masterful stories, five stars for both. The middle two get four each because Burke writes so damn well I can't give him anything less. Those two just didn't live up to my expectations from him. I recommend it.

GeneralTHC The Terror by Dan Simmons for an even 10 books. I'm not ever letting this happen again, lol.

Time for some serious reading.

I think you'll love it, Lori! I'm not sure why she has this one numbered '2' and Tail of the Dog numbered '1'. I need to ask her about that. Anyway, you do need to read Flesh and Blood first. Let me know what you think! I'm almost done with Tail of the Dog - freakin' awesome!

Rick, be sure to get Flesh and Blood first. I'm not sure why she has them numbered as she does, but that one really is 1st, and Tail of the Dog is 2nd.

Okay, I spoke with Angel. She said this one was written like a prequel. However IMO, and she said some others have mentioned this, I feel it reads much better if you take this as the first one, then read Tail of the Dog second. I just know they're awesome, and I've already volunteered to help as she's working on her third one. I can't wait to read it!!!

I've read Dennis Lehane's first two books, and can't wait to get more. When you read his books, you might as well be in Boston! The descriptions of the neighborhoods, the attitude, even the dialect are so dead on.

The Final Winter an apocalyptic horror novel by Iain Rob Wright

and

Animal Kingdom by Iain Rob Wright

I really enjoy his writing style.

Have you read James Patterson's ZOO? Animal Kingdom is similar and it's better!

@Brenda & Laura- I have several of his books downloaded. I will have a go at them eventually. Which one is a good one to start with?

As I was telling Brenda. Animal Kingdom was better than Patterson's Zoo. Final Winter has a bit of a religious feel to it, I think?

Reading Ravage right now and it's great so far.
I'm going to have to read ASBO and see what it's like.

I read this a few months back and thought it was pretty dang good. As a matter of fact, I found me a new author. I just read another Lehane book called Live by Night by Dennis Lehane that I really liked too, so I'm batting 1000 with him.

Dennis | 24 comments I'm in the middle of the Harry Bosch series by Michael Connelly Angels Flight (Harry Bosch, #6) by Michael Connelly . I'm really enjoying them.

Rachel the Book Harlot | 63 comments It was my first Dennis Lehane book, and I have to say I was really impressed. He has such an incredible way of creating atmosphere. There is one moment in the book that particularly sticks out in my mind. Teddy, the protag, is relaying a memory of his time in WWII--he finds a dying SS officer, and there is music playing in the background which Teddy describes as "...soft music crawling around the room like spiders." I really loved that. Not only was that a great description, but I could feel exactly what that scene must have been like for Teddy.

Hmmm. Another one that sounds interesting.

message 195: by Rick (new)

Rick Shepard I can see that the problem with this group, is that there just isn't enough book money to go around. I am overweight, so eating COULD go to every other day. If I cut out the TV and lights, and read by candlelight, that could reduce my electrical bill. In fact, how atmospheric would it be to move to a pup tent, hang a Coleman lantern to read by and depend on local business's for my wireless connection here. There is, however, the issue of book storage...

lol That's a great strategy. I might have to join you because it's virtually impossible for me to stick to my book budget.
