Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Vicci, Go is only if you land on it. Although maybe next time I might add it in as you have to do it when you pass it too. We'll see how things go and how everyone thinks things went this time.

Carrie, Nothing happens with doubles. I totally forgot all about rolling doubles. At this point, it only means something if you're in jail.

Carrie (icanhasbooks) | 595 comments Thank you Paris, I rolled them last night and never posted the roll yet until I knew what was what.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Just double checking, if a player on a property that another player is currently reading to own the other player doesn't have to read the rent rate right?

message 205: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Right Jenne. And if the second player finishes before the first player, then the second player owns the property. You only have to read the rent rate if the first player finishes before you land there.

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Also, Megan asked in our game if she had to actually shed tears while reading a book for water works and actually crying isn't necessary. If you get choked up that works. You can reread a book that made you cry before. Or if you read a book that has made others cry that'll work too. I'm not all that emotional and it's really hard to actually make me shed tears, but I get choked up, get that tight feeling in my chest. I am going to make a judgement call and say that is what you need.

No blood, sweat or tears are necessary for the game, but if it happens, then that's cool...wait...not the blood part, but the sweat and tears part. ;-)

Turtlecollector Dennis For the being in jail space, does it have to be the main character who is arrested or in jail? I would like to read The Murderer's Daughters by Randy Susan Meyers , but it is the father of the main characters who is in jail and may be up for parole.

message 208: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments oohh yes thats a good question turtle as I have a book in kind, I Hunt Killers but it is the father and not tge main character.

message 209: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments kind ....!!! sp* sorry mind!

message 210: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Not necessarily the main character, but a central character. I would think that the father of the main character is pretty central. Even if that person isn't in the book much, they are central to the main characters world.

Thanks. The father has had a lot of influence over the actions of the main characters and from what I can tell without actually reading it yet, they do visit him and get letters from him.

message 212: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Then that should be perfect. TC.

message 213: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments I updated the first post with questions asked in this thread.

message 214: by Danie (new)

Danie (heyydanie) Oh, this looks like fun! I'd like to play if anyone is still looking for someone to play with! My reading speed is somewhat fast, a book a day/every other day depending what I have going on.

message 215: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Danie, I'll add you to the list on the main page and hopefully we'll get you paired up soon.

message 216: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) Park Place - Never Finished Shelf - Must read 3 book to own. Must read 5 books if the property is owned.
Boardwalk - DNF Shelf - Must read 3 book to own. Must read 5 books if the property is owned.

Ok, I could understand if one of these two shelves was used for one of last two fields, but for the only two fields where you have to read 5 books to be dnf shelves is a bit too much of a punishment :/
Can't one of these two shelves be replaced with one where we can find some nice books? :P Just a suggestion for the next round...

I'm OK with the dnf shelves because there are books on there that I will probably like. It's just based on someone else's opinion. But it is a bit redundant to have two lists that are almost identical and there are some types I wish were listed to force me out of my comfort zone... like Classics and Non Fiction.

Again, as Gea said, just an idea for next time. I really like this game. Great job, Paris!

message 218: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) I don't mind the shelves, I'm more rattled by their position. I had to go through most of my TBR to find 5 books for Not Finished shelf. I can only hope I don't land there again :P I think it would be better if one of them was positioned earlier on the board.

I think the idea behind their location is that it's not supposed to be easy to get Park Place & Boardwalk. In Monopoly, they are the most expensive properties and have the most expensive rent. Monopoly-a-holic here, lol. I could play it alllllllll day.

But I could be completely wrong, lol.

message 220: by Gea (last edited Nov 13, 2013 08:01AM) (new)

Gea (gea89) I took a closer look at dnf shelf and even though their meaning is the same, the books on both shelves are different. I guess I just had the bad luck to land on the shelf where more "serious" books are kept and not on more fun one lol

message 221: by Amy (new)

Amy H (twinypa) | 426 comments Where do you request a thread for a new game? We have a couple people on the sign up thread to have a game.

message 222: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments You request a thread over at the sign up thread and Paris will get y'all hooked up :)

message 223: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Thanks for the feedback. Danie is correct. I picked those shelves because Park Place and Boardwalk aren't supposed to be easy to get. They cost the most in this version as they do in the regular version. I tried to make sure that the shelves were different enough.

I didn't pick genre shelves because we do have a group of diverse readers here and I didn't want to turn anyone off of the game. I looked at the first like 20 pages or more of all of the shelves I picked and saw that there was a good mixture of most genres on them.

I will be making tweaks I think and would love to hear from everyone what they think should be changed before new games are started. I'll start a feedback thread.

message 224: by Gea (new)

Gea (gea89) As I said I didn't take a look at dnf and I thought it will hold more or less the same books as Never Finished as the meaning of the shelves names is the same. Shelves are pretty different and that way there's no real problem for them to be on the last two properties. I just didn't like that two almost identical shelves would be on the hardest properties. My mistake, and I apologize for it :)

message 225: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Oh Gea, don't apologize at all. I am really excited to actually hear feedback on this game. Please keep it coming and let me know if you have any other comments, concerns, ideas or anything. Thanks!

message 226: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 220 comments hey! I wanna play too. im looking for a relaxed game with reading 1 or 2 books a week. please let me know if anyone wants to join :)

message 227: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Joanne, I've added you to the list on the first page, hopefully we'll have someone for you to play soon!

Jojobean | 220 comments thanks!

message 229: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments Hey Joanne, if you want to join our game you can. We have already started and nearly around the board once but there was 3 of us and one seems to have disappeared. As long as Brittany doesn't mind. :o)

message 230: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 220 comments Oh ok cool. Thanks! are you guys reading one to two books per week? Thats all I can manage for now with work. :D

message 231: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments I work funny shift so usually a mix of the both, I have only read 1 this week but 2 last wk.

message 232: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments Paris can you add Joanne to our thread please?

message 234: by Jojobean (new)

Jojobean | 220 comments ok thanks guys:)

message 235: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 461 comments Another question about being jail. If I attempt to roll doubles (one roll today and two tries tomorrow as per the above question) what happens if I don't roll doubles after 3 tries? Do I automatically get out of jail or would I then resort to reading the book to get out? Thanks!

message 236: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments You get out of jail automatically.

message 237: by Belinda (new)

Belinda | 461 comments Thanks Paris!

message 238: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments You're welcome Belinda. Thanks for the question!

message 239: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) I should have asked that question lol! I kept rolling twice a day until I got doubles. That will teach me.

message 240: by Paris (last edited Nov 21, 2013 09:13AM) (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Oh no. I'm sorry Lauren.

message 241: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (laurenjberman) No worries - its all in good fun :0)

message 242: by Sue (new)

Sue Morris | 1095 comments Paris.... Thank you so much for thinking of this challenge....

Though as in the game Monopoly, we all want to win the game...We are all winner in having read so many books.....:)

message 243: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Can I ask a question about coming out of jail. Do we just continue on from there? or from the diagonal corner? (I'd never heard of this rule till now so double checking)

message 244: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments Paris, are we allowed to change our books half way through?
I'm reading one but I'm struggling to be honest it's bringing back some bad memories and it's not enjoyable.

message 245: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Elishia, you continue on from the jail spot once you get out.

Vicci, you can change your book as long as the new book fits the spot you're on.

Sue, I'm so glad you're enjoying the game. And you are definitely killing a lot of books off of your TBR.

message 246: by Elishia (new)

Elishia Ok I was doing it right. Thanks Paris

message 247: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments Thanks Paris, yes it fits the spot.

message 248: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Paris for luxury tax if a character is a cop and is undercover as a hooker would that work for being poor since she's pretending to be?

message 249: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 4285 comments Jenne, sorry just saw this. How long is she pretending to be poor for? If it's the majority of the book, I'd say yes, but if just a little bit, then no. Sorry

message 250: by VNerdbooks (new)

VNerdbooks (v_nerdbooks) | 5307 comments Wow, Paris you are strict lol.
