I loved Tale of Two Cities. Charles Dickens at his best"

I got a really old copy from my mom the other day! I was thinking that I probably wouldn't like it but I turned to the first page and started reading and I had to force myself to put it down and finish the one I am reading now! I will be reading it soon for sure!

Edith | 256 comments I'm reading The Fountainhead right now but think that I'll have to go back to the Sookie series when I'm done. By then I'll definitely be ready for some mindless entertainment!

Rosemary | 3 comments Am reading Life is Not All Ha Ha Hee Hee (Life Isn't All Ha Ha Hee Hee) which is one of the best titles I've ever read. So far liking it very much--about three Indian women living in London, the clash and crash of cultures and old friendships. Next up is Home Repair, (Home Repair) best cover I've seen on a book in a while and best premise-- woman's husband walks out in the middle of their garage sale.

message 207: by Genie (new)

Genie (genieinaustin) | 9 comments I have at least 40 books on my next to read shelf, I don't even know where to start. I think I will try White Teeth or Devil in the White City. Little Women is going to stay on my unfinished shelf, but I did like
Geraldine Brooks "March" about Mr March of Alcotts book.

I spied Zafon's new book The Angel's Game on the shelves during my trip to England. I almost gave in to temptation but it was still in hardback so miles too heavy.

In the town where I was born, there was a Lane Public Library in Ohio, any connection?

message 223: by Liz (new)

Liz Either New Moon or Girl with a Pearl Earring will be next for me.

UniquelyMoi ~ BlithelyBookish I'm reading Heat Seeker but then will start a new series, I just can't decide which. Either Cherry Adair's T-FLAC or Marliss Melton's series. I don't know if hers has a name for the series.

message 225: by Katie (new)

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 109 comments I think The House at Riverton by Kate Morton will be next up for me.

We're camping and boating over Labor Day weekend. If I can get my husband, dog, parents, in-laws and sister-in-law to leave me along long enough I should be able to finish it in just a day or two.

message 227: by Vonney (new)

Vonney Young (ysgillen67) | 75 comments When I finish listening to unabridged audio of "Olive
Kitteridge", will probably listen to "The Graveyard"
or "The Time Traveler's Wife" here in the house; "The
Historian" in the car; and will throw "Pope Joan" in
my work bag when there's downtime. Sometime I have to
read/listen to "Loving Frank" before my Raleigh bookclub meets Fri, Sept 25.

message 228: by Kevis (last edited Sep 02, 2009 03:39PM) (new)

Kevis Hendrickson (kevishendrickson) Soon as I knock out the 2 books I'm reading right now, I'll be diving into The Fox by Arlene Radasky and EyeLeash A Blog Novel by Jess C Scott. Both books are written by GR authors, so I feel good knowing that I get to read the works of some of the local talent.

message 229: by Carol (new)

Carol I chose Cold Mountain-Charles Frazier, and as soon as I get The Graveyard Book from library I will start on it.

message 230: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (mamallama) | 130 comments The next books on my list will be The Titan's Curse followed by Lord of the Fliesand then An Echo in the Bone. Depending on how fast I read the first 2, I might have a couple more before Echo.

I read it years ago and really enjoyed it. I read quite a few of Ayn's books after that. I hope you enjoy it, too, Ann.

The Importance of Being Earnest. It's a good comedy.

So it's either The Importance of Being Earnest or The Picture of Dorian Gray. Really interested, because I really have no clue about his style or even his philosophy.

message 245: by Rita (new)

Rita I just started Girl Who Played With Fire by Steig Larsson. I enjoyed the first one, so I am looking forward to this.

I too, read multiple books at once so who knows what else I may pick up.

I dont know if you can count my experiences as having "read" it. I tryed three different times in my life to read this book, and cant seem to get past page 65.... I end up chucking it. It just doesnt grab me. I would be interested to know what you think.

message 247: by Katie (new)

Katie (katieisallbooked) | 109 comments I think I'll be reading Courage of Fear by Barbara Boyer after I finish The House at Riverton by Kate Morton.

It's a GR giveaway win for me so I need to review it. Plus, I'm using it for Cynthia's fall challenge so I'll get some points there. :)

Ann, if you want to get a feel of whether you like Ayn Rand's writing style or not, have a peek at Anthem. It's very different in theme than her other books but it is definitely her writing style and philosophy. It's a short story (just over 100 pages, I think) and it's set in a futuristic time (very unlike her other novels) but will give you a flavor for her work.
I find that people either like Ayn Rand's philosophy, which comes through in every book, or not. This will give you an idea of whether or not you want to tackle Atlas Shrugged or her other novels.
