Buddy Read? Requests here!

You had me confused, and I DID vote for Bleak House.
This morning ght be what I need to finally be motivated to read it!

Sorry about that! I'm like you, I need something to "make me" read it -- even though I want to read it, the length makes it a little daunting to me. I'm needing a little push ;)
Cynda wrote: "Hi All. I would be interested in reading The Odyssey by Homer in either January or February. Would anyone else like to read with?"
I'm in! I want to read the new translation by Emily Wilson. Jan or Feb. works for me.

Looks like February is shaping up for us, better tha. January.
Moderators, when should I request a buddy read to start February?
Looking forward!

I have The Odyssey on my Classics Old & New Challenge list. I can't promise that I'll have time in February, but if I do, I'll def join in with you :)

No worries. Eventually, We will get to Bleak House.

I liked David Copperfield and several others by Dickens. But now I feel like I need to have Bleak House under my belt, even if it turns out that I don't like it quite as well. I'll let you know what I think!

Harry Potter - all of 2019?
Lord of the Rings - Jan - Mar
The Odyssey - Feb
Bleak House - Maybe March? It could be tried in polls again!
Have I missed anything? Any changes? I'll update the master list later.
Chess Story by Stefan Zweig has just come in second too many times. I plan to read it this month. It is short and will give me an Author Z for my A-Z challenge.
Anyone willing to join me for the read?

Eugene Onegin by Alexander Pushkin is another book that I will be reading in 2019. It makes the polls but has never won.
Anyone want to read that one with me? I would probably read it in March or there about.

I'm wanting to read more Russian writers this year including Tolstoy and Doestovsky. I'd be interested in a buddy read anytime after February. I've never read Brothers Karamozov and it's on my list too!

I can do February if thats what works for others

If I get a chance I will also join in, I was hoping to read the first of 2 translations in Feb.

I just started it several weeks back, but haven´t finished so far - I´m kind of pausing it for my other reads.
Still need to read book two ...

(Sorry for the fractured response - broke my tablet just before the hols, so I didn´t have internet most of the time since then ... )
And thanks for organizing everything :)

My honor to participate and help facilitate. I will be doing more research this Odyssey read as this will be my 3rd read. Looking forward!

Of course if this actually wins the March Poll, then I think we should disband the buddy read and read it with the group in March. But I am not holding my breath. So I'll wait until the last moment before posting the thread in February.

I will join a discussion if you start one. I first read Troopers in the early 1970s and a second time not long ago. There is also Forever War by Joe Haldeman, usually considered to be a more modern take on the same theme, with a much different slant, which I first read by the early 1980s and again a few years ago. I have no intention of reading either again anytime soon, but I think I remember enough to provide wortwhile input to a discussion. I most certainly recommend Forever War as a followup. Both novels are reasonably short, and easy to read as long as one is willing to tolerate the killing and maiming.

I just recently bought this on a kindle sale, in October. I want to read it ... there's just not likely any possibility for multiple months, at least :(

I´ll be glad to be reading with you. :)"

Excellent MK. I are planning to start in February. Katy has provided us links to previous reading threads. You can find them at Message 1418. Thanks Katy!
Anyone I have not responded to, I am sorry. I am on a tablet and do not get a large screen view. I do hope anyine whk wants to join ths buddy read of The Odyssey will show up. Any and all are welcome 👋

As I mentioned, I'm not certain my time will allow, but I am going to for sure! try to make time! I would be thrilled to read along with an experienced Odyssey reader, as Lilly said. :)
Inkspill mentioned an easy-to-follow translation in another thread, as a 'starter/intro' read. I'm going to look for that copy (once I remember what it is *grin*).
Sorry about your tablet! Hope you're feeling better! I copied all the posts about your buddy read below. Hopefully, I didn't miss any:

Kirsten wrote #1402: "Sounds good. I have a nice audiobook copy narrated by the actor Alfred Molina. "
Lilly wrote #1404: "The Odyssey has been on my reading list for quite a while. :)
But I don´t think I can take another read for january ... so I´ll probably just check on you guys to see how far you´ve come - maybe I can jump in later on, if you take a while reading ...
The LotR is always good for a reread, but same here as far as time is concerned. (I actually dropped out of my last reread somewhere in the middle ... ) Things should be better in late february/ march, so I might join you for the second book ... "
Cynda wrote #1410: "Oh Good Kirsten. Sorry it took me a moment to get back with you. Been sick but improving now. Is January or February better for you? Or either?
Okay Lilly. Maybe others will say something similar. I plan to enjoy the re-read. I just this year read Circe, a re-telling. So I have a part in Odyssey to savour. "

Hey MK - thanks for reposting links and all related posts. Seriously, I said I was reading 2 translation in a month, what was I thinking? Too much of the Holidays I think :)
Cynda, hi, I'm hoping to start Odyssey in Feb, preferably beginning (ha! ha!) - trying to finish a long book - and join you all. I'm just about to post on the non-spoiler thread.

Haha, reading eyes bigger than your time commitments :D. I share this problem ;-).
Remind me again about the easy translation you mentioned? I'll try to look for it :)
