🙌🏻K so that’s all from me for now, peeps! Have Jessica relay any qs on the captains chat and the spreadsheet will be updated with all the tasks on August 1st (refer to countdown at top of page)...😊

message 52: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I think that if someone owns a book, or has it from the library, and it is the only or one of the only ones for the task that is highlighted, they automatically do that book. Does that sound good?

message 53: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments Sounds like a plan to me.
And if multiple books for a single task are highlighted we can work out who can read for that task. Probably based on time / how many other books they're reading.

message 54: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) That makes sense. Sounds like a plan!

message 55: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Sounds good!

message 56: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) But don't take them off yet, because some of them will probably work for the new tasks

I agree! I cannot wait until the challenge starts!

I have a 24-h readathon group on Goodreads and I'll try and host a readathon soon. Haven't done one since May.

message 58: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Jessica, can you ask Kadi if one person could read a book twice would it count for two tasks? And if a book, for the task that needs a baking scene, would The Candymakers work? Because it's not really baking (there might be an actual scene with baking, but I can't remember). Would candy-making count as baking?

message 59: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments For a book to count for more than one task, more than one person has to read it. Which book is it? Because one of us might have it / have a library close by that has it.

And I just asked about the candy-making so I'll let you know what she says!

message 60: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments She said that candy-making does not count for a baking scene. Does that book possibly work for another task?

Maybe for tasks we don't know yet.

Crushing It. It's down twice and I only really want it on there once. I think it's put down for a character falling out with a friend, and getting grounded

It would probably work for something in Sweet Treats.

message 63: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments We can see what other books we can come up with that might fit into one of those categories, especially once we have all the other tasks in a couple days, to determine what we want to do with that. And if we do end up having it on there twice, we can see who else can read it.
If that sounds good?

message 64: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Yup

Elizabeth (elizabethkirkpatty) | 106 comments Hi, team! I'm just wondering what you guys are planning to read first and for what task.

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Elizabeth wrote: "Hi, team! I'm just wondering what you guys are planning to read first and for what task."

Hello! I think I will start with Wishtree by Katherine Applegate for "Goodreads Nominee" (task 46) because I own the physical copy of it and has 211 pages.

message 67: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments I haven't quite decided yet, but I'm thinking of starting with Fantastic Beasts - The Crimes of Grindelwald The Original Screenplay by J.K. Rowling for a book that is a prequel (task 40).

Good choice! So now he have nominations for all available tasks.

Thanks! And yep. So next we just need to work out who will be reading which book for those tasks that have multiple options, and then see what other tasks Kadi gives us!

message 70: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Yes. We could all say what is the first book we want to read and the ones are the closest to us, so to say! I have a bunch of ARCs that are middle-grade books and that I can read, but we don't know all of the tasks yet.

Also, I have a Goodreads group where I want to host 24 hour readathons and I was thinking of hosting one every weekend. And if you can, you should participate and we can get more books done. Maybe I'll host 48-hour ones every weekend so everyone could participate and also have time to sleep :)).

I'm actually hosting one for tomorrow so I can finish some books until the challenge.

https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... Here is the link to my group.

message 71: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments I'll start with Aru Shah and the End of Time (task 27)

Elizabeth (elizabethkirkpatty) | 106 comments Jessica, I was wondering if I could read Wonder for task 45 because we both have books put down for that task.

I joined your group too! I'll try to participate as much as possible, but with work and life I might not be able to do every readathon. But I still love the idea!

message 79: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Thank you, guys! And no worries, Jessica. You can read when you have time! I'm thinking that a little boost every week can help us win this competition faster than the other teams! (This is my competitive-self speaking :)) ! )

message 80: by zaiyah (last edited Jul 30, 2019 10:39AM) (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I just joined! And, I agree weekly readathons will be great!

For my first book I was planning on reading Scar Island by Dan Gemeinhart Scar Island

message 81: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Ah, yes. I think we have the lead. I feel like we're much more organised than the other groups are. And like we have a clearer understanding of what we're going to read.

Hello people!

The tasks are all officially up! Sorry I was supposed to do them a while ago but slept in ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ it’s my holiday what can I do😂😂

Also I’m putting up the score spreadsheet later today in a new topic so keep an eye out for that.

The bonus tasks come out on the 15th!

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments OMG!!!!!!! I have waited for this for such a long time!!!!!! I can't waaaaaaaaait! <3

message 87: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Let's do this!!!

message 88: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments By the way, Jessica. Can I write into the spreadsheet that I started reading Wishtree? Would that be okay?

message 89: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments How is everyone's reading so far?

I'm at page 55 out of 215 in Wishtree by Katherine Applegate for task 46.

message 90: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments Yah! That's fine. And not that you would, but of course don't add the finished date until you have actually finished the book so we don't accidentally get points for books we haven't finished.

And @everyone, just keep everyone updated on what you're reading and for what task it's for so 1) we ensure we don't accidentally read books for the same task and 2) so I can also keep track of what's been read and how things are going.

message 91: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments And I'm starting my first book tonight!

message 92: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Hey team! I just finished Wishtree by Katherine Applegate Wishtree by Katherine Applegate for task 46: A book that was nominated for a Goodreads Choice Award in the Middle Grade & Children's category. I gave it 5 stars!

Also, I updated this in the Spreadsheet and also made some notes in the Tracking Sheet (like what other tasks it fulfills).

message 93: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Now I want to start Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald Under the Egg by Laura Marx Fitzgerald. It also could work for task 30: A book with a protagonist who is a sleuth/detective (where I already wanted to read something else), but also I want to see if this fulfills tasks 32 or 33, in which case I could use this book for one of these, and if not, I'll use "Ollie Oxley and the Ghost" for another prompt.

I will tell you as soon as I discover something or after I finish this book.

It's currently 1 a.m. here but I can't sleep. :))

message 94: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethkirkpatty) | 106 comments Right now I'm reading Wonder for task 45.

message 95: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I'm reading Scar Island for task three: A book that is set primarily on an island

message 96: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Hey, Jessica? Can you ask Kadi if for task 37 A book with a character who is fighting/has cancer does it count if they've finished their treatment? Because does it ever really go away?

message 97: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments I'm reading Aru Shah and the End of Time for task 27

message 98: by jessica (new)

Kadi said that as long as they have cancer at some point in the book, even if it's just a small portion, it's fine. But if they only talk about how they used to have cancer, then that does not count.

message 99: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Okay, thanks.

I finished Scar Island yesterday and started reading Bliss today for task 9 A book with a baking scene

message 100: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I'm going to add it onto the spreadsheet, okay?
