Oh, my bad! I thought it required 2 characters to do the breaking in so it wouldn't matter if the total was more than 2. Do i make sense? 😅

Yes. :)) I hope it's okay, though. You can still use the book for another task, like the one with a birthday scene (Harry's birthday when he meets Hagrid, or Dudley's when they go to the zoo at the beginning), and we can also get close on finishing category 2.

message 153: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Team 2 already has 20 points (15 tasks + 1 category finished) as I saw in the score spreadsheet.

But we can beat them for sure!

Yep, it's totally fine!

I think I'll start Fantastic Beasts - The Crimes of Grindelwald: The Original Screenplay for Task 11: A book published in November of any year

Does anyone have any other ideas for this task?

I personally don't.

Update: I'm 65% into Ollie Oxley.

message 156: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments I'm reading The Magic Misfits for task 11

message 157: by Dana (last edited Aug 06, 2019 05:40AM) (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Cool!

I'm 83% into the book. I'll finish it after I go to my friend's birthday. And we would have the 5th category completed.

Then I'll start The bad beginning by Lemony Snicket for task 13, so we can get closer to also finish category 2.

message 158: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) YASSSS! WE CAN DO THIS!! So I finished Halfway Normal, and it kind of has a falling out with a friend, and the main character had leukemia, but her treatment by the time the book start, but… well, I don't know.

Also, I finished The Fourteenth Goldfish So I guess I'll see what those ones work with

message 159: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Hey guys! I just came home from my friend's birthday and I'm going to finish with "Ollie Oxley" and finish the 5th category.

Good job Zaiyah!! We can win this!

message 161: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Guys, I finished Ollie Oxley and the Ghost The Search for Lost Gold by Lisa Schmid for the task 32 so we finished Category 5. But we didn't got the 5 additional points.

Jessica, can you ask Kadi why?

message 162: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Yeah, that's really strange and, frankly, quite annoying.

Anyway, I'm reading The Candymakers for task 48 (our namesake is my favourite character in that book). We're in the lead!! (if the points get added) Let's keep it up!

message 163: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Also, do you think that this counts for more than 50% brown? The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase (The Candymakers, #2) by Wendy Mass Because I'm afraid it may be a little less

message 164: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments I finished the book for task 11.. two more books to go and we'll complete another category!
Next I'm going to read The Girl Who Drank the Moon for task 47
I was reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone for task 10 but since that's already finished by Zaiyah I'll continue the book for task 45

message 165: by Elizabeth (last edited Aug 07, 2019 12:11AM) (new)

Elizabeth (elizabethkirkpatty) | 106 comments Hello everyone! I finished Wonder for task #49. Next, I'm going to read The Truth as Told by Mason Buttle for task #12.

Also, the 5 bonus points for finishing a category added up. For the little table on the right that says points, there's a section that says "Categories Complete". I just put a 1 there and it added our 5 bonus points!

I think it's a little bit more than 50% brown, but it's debatable. Maybe you could use it for another task just to be safe.

Honestly, I don't think is is, because even though the brown and blue seem equal, there is that yellow title on the brown so that makes the brown less than 50% :(. But it's okay, we will find something else.

message 168: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Now I read that Elizabeth found a book for that task. I'll also finish The bad beginning for task 13 and we'll finish the second category as well! <3

I'm so excited!

message 169: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments I just finished The Bad Beginning (A Series of Unfortunate Events, #1) by Lemony Snicket by Lemony Snicket for task 13 (a book published in the 90's). After Elizabeth finishes her book for task 12, we will have finished category 2.

message 170: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Wonderful!

message 171: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments So I finished reading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling .
Do y'all think it's a good fit for task 45 (A book with a character who wins a prize/award/medal)? Or should i add it in for task 42 (A book with a character who moves to a new home/school)?

message 172: by Dana (new)

You can add it to task 45, because there are a lot more possibilities on task 42, if that's okay.

message 173: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Shravani, did you ever finish Wonder?

message 174: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) What happens if we finish all the tasks before the month in up? And what if two or all three of the teams finish all the tasks? is it just who finished them first?

message 175: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments hey guys! okay i'm back and with far more time to read so i can be helpful instead of just not doing anything lol. i've nearly finished The Sea of Monsters for task 12 - a book with a cover that is 50% brown, which will complete category 2.

Zaiyah, is it cool if I read Echo for task 2? I know you said you had it too, so I wanted to check.

message 176: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments and I’m not 100% sure 🤷🏻‍♀️

Great

message 179: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments As long as I remember, who finishes first is the winning team. 😉
So we got this! We are way ahead!

message 180: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments I'm planning on finishing The Sea of Monsters tomorrow (for task 12), and then my next book will be The Sword of Summer for Task 5: A book with "summer" in the title.

On Friday, I'm heading to the library to get some books and then I'll have:
Echo for Task 2: A book where the protagonist gets lost
The Elite for Task 36: A book that is a sequel
Coraline for Task 42: A book with a character who moves to a new home / school

I just wanted to make sure it doesn't over cross with other people's plans?

Nope, sounds good Jessica.

Oh, sorry. I must be seeing things. Probably comes from never wearing my glasses

message 183: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Oh, I’m actually reading a sequel right now. But I want to finish it first and then see in which tasks it can be; then decide where it goes best.

I’m sure I can find other tasks as well.

message 184: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments Dana wrote: "Oh, I’m actually reading a sequel right now. But I want to finish it first and then see in which tasks it can be; then decide where it goes best.

that totally works. i can save The Elite for later in that grouping and if yours doesn't seem to fit in a different task we can use yours for the sequel since you're already reading it right now.

message 185: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Okay then.

I just went to the library and took The Giver by Lois Lowry for task 43 I guess, the book that won the Newbery Medal in any year.

message 186: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments So I asked Kadi about who exactly wins, and she said that whoever finishes first wins. Initially she hadn't really thought any team would finish all the tasks, but since we're flying through them she's going to add 10 more bonus tasks, and probably make them more difficult.

message 187: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Oooh, fun. How much are the bonus tasks worth?

message 188: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments not sure yet! I'm not sure that she's sure yet either, since it's a super recent idea. but i'll definitely let you guys know if she says anything else before announcing it.

message 189: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Jessica, can you please ask Kadi something on the Captain's chat?

So I just took The Giver from the library, but the translated edition is red. It's this one: Darul lui Jonas (The Giver, #1) by Lois Lowry .

And I wanted to know if I can read it for the task 24: a book with a red cover. Even though the original cover is brown.

message 190: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments I'll ask. I feel like it should be fine as long as it's the edition you're reading.
if not, I've got Ghost Boys by Jewell Parker Rhodes which has a red cover that we can use as backup, and then we can still use The Giver for task 43.

message 191: by Dana (new)

I initially took this book for task 43 but Elizabeth already started a book for that task so I wanted to use it for a different task. I'll see what other tasks it fulfils and I'll use it for one that could help us advance, because team 2 has the same points as we do.

Gotcha. Sounds good. And I can see what else Ghost Boys fits in with as well when I get to it, and we can play around with which book we want where.

But yah, team 2 is right up there with us. I have faith in us though.

Me too! We can do it! And yeah, we will handle with the tasks.

message 194: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments We also still have the at least 5 bonus tasks that these might work for.

message 195: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments You're absolutely right!

message 196: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments I just finished The Sea of Monsters for task 12, which was the last task for category 2, so we've completed 2 categories now!

I'm now starting The Sword of Summer for Task 5, and will probably also start Wonder for Task 28, unless someone else had already started reading something for those?

message 197: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments I finished the book for Task 47 today. I'm starting Goblin Secrets for Task 44. Then we'll have finished another category!

Can we repeat books though? The rules say 1 book can fulfill 1 task only. Since Wonder was already read for Task 49, can we read it for another task?

One person cannot read the same book for different tasks, but anyone can read the same book for different tasks, if this makes sense.
