Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments So if someone else has read Wonder for one task, you can also read Wonder for a different task. But if you already have read Wonder, you can't read it again.

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments we’re doing great!

and yah, like dana said, as long as more than one person reads it it can count for an additional task. 👌🏼

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments and dana, that edition of The Giver does work for the task of a book with a red cover. just make sure it's the edition you shelve onto your middle grade shelf if we use it for that task.

message 214: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I finished The Girl Who Could Fly and now I'm reading Matilda for task 20. My copy is pubished by Puffin books.

Have you guys seen the bonus category names? I particularly like category two

message 215: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) For task 38 (the competitive sport one) a character plays a sport, but they don't really like it and it's not the main focus? Like if they play soccer in semester one and baseball second semester? Would that count?

message 216: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments I finished the book for Task 44 so we've completed another category!

Next I'm starting Nimona by Noelle Stevenson for Task 25

I think it has to be the main focus.

message 218: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Well darn.

I finished Matilda for task 20 so as soon as Elizabeth finishes task 19 we'll have finished Fly High.

message 220: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Jessica, can you ask Kadi if we read a book before the bonus tasks come out and it doesn't work for anything, can we add them for the bonus tasks when they do come out. Or do only the books we read on and after the fifteenth count?

message 221: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I'm reading The Strangers but I'm not sure what it works for yet

message 222: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Maybe 2. I'm not very far in yet

message 223: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Also, I was looking at the other teams' spreadsheets, just for fun and I saw Quidditch through the ages on the Alice Queensmeadow spreadsheet and when I read it, it did not seem like 100 pages which all of the books are required to be. So I looked it up and it only has 64 pages. Do we tell Kadi or no?

Actually, they discussed about it on their team thread.
I am reading the other teams' threads. And the person who read that book has an edition of 100 and something pages, so it counts.

message 225: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments for the bonus tasks, the book has to be read after the task is revealed (aka the 15th)

message 226: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Thank you

message 227: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments yup 👌🏼
so for books we’re unsure of, should we hold off on them until the 15th if we know another book definitely fits that task (and if someone is planning on reading that book soon)?

message 228: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Okay.

I'll read The Strangers for task two and The Lightning Thief for task one for the 11th, and if Jessica finishes task 5 and Dana finishes task 4 we'll be done Summer

message 229: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments We're making great progress.
I've just finished The Sword of Summer.

Today I'm planning on reading Ghost Boys for task 24, Dragon Pearl for task 22, and Coraline for task 42.

Also Zaiyah, after you finish reading The Lightning Thief, could you let me know if there are 3+ sword fighting scenes? I definitely remember there being scenes, I just can't remember how many. if there are, i could read that as well and we can use that for task 26.

message 230: by Dhriya (new)

Dhriya | 40 comments I'm reading Ghost (Track, #1) by Jason Reynolds for task 38

UPDATE ABOUT BONUS TASKS

So, if you've been looking at your team spreadsheet and thinking "WHAT IS HAPPENING IT'S GOING CRAZY!!" then don't worry, I've sorted everything out!

I've expanded the number of bonus tasks so that it goes like this:
Bonus Category 1:
- 5 tasks
- Each task worth 3 points
- Completing the category gives you 10 extra points

Bonus Category 1:
- 7 tasks
- Each task worth 5 points
- Completing this category gives you 15 extra points

I gave the categories quirky names because I'm either funny or weird, you decide (hint: it's funny)

Bonus Category 1 tasks will be revealed on 14th August, midnight my time (Dubai time) - SEE COUNTDOWN

Bonus Category 2 tasks will be revealed on 21st August, midnight London time - SEE COUNTDOWN

*IMPORTANT*
Books read for Bonus Category 1 must be started on/after 14th August in order to count towards those tasks.
Books read for Bonus Category 2 must be started on/after 21st August in order to count towards those tasks.

If you're wondering why the start time changes from Dubai to London it's because I'm moving to London on the 15th (exciting times). Any qs feel free to have your captain hit me with them :)

ALSO: a while back the points coding for category 5 was incorrectly written so it wasn’t counting it as a category but I fixed it. Not sure if anyone noticed, but it works now😊 any points issues please bring them to me!

Elizabeth (elizabethkirkpatty) | 106 comments I just finished Wonderstruck for task #19, so now we finished another category! Next, I'm going to read The Lightning Thief for task #39.

message 234: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments Awesome!

I've just finished Ghost Boys for task #24 and Dragon Pearl for task #22.

I'm starting on The Lost Hero for task #23.

message 235: by Dana (new)

Dana Cristiana (silvermoon1923) | 313 comments Then I'll read Arena 13 (Arena 13, #1) by Joseph Delaney for task 26 so we can finish that category as well.

message 236: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments And then we've just got two more categories to complete, with one of them pretty much nearly done.

Sorry for the late reply. Does practicing with a sword count? And does it count if the opponent has no sword? Because if so, there's the time Percy chops up Mrs. Dodds and when he practices with Luke which it mentions twice. Then there is in the creek during his first capture the flag game (I think this is the first one that counts). Then when he cuts off Medusa's head, and when he faces off with Ares is an actual honest-to-goodness sword fight so I think that's two in reality, but I don't know.

Dana, have you finished The Giver?

message 239: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I'll read The Chamber of Secrets for task 36 if no one's planning anything for that.

message 240: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Or maybe I'll read The Reptile Room. I could finish it tonight

So if the task doesn't need to have duelling I read A Royal Guide to Monster Slaying which has scenes where people primarily use swords to defeat monsters and such.

Would that fit #26?

message 242: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) If it didn't need it, yes. As long as there are three or more. Can you ask Kadi, Jessica?

message 243: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments i think dana might be reading Arena 13 for task 26? if not we can work one of those books into it for sure.

and zaiyah, that works for task 36. i was thinking about reading The Elite, but it’ll be a few days before i can actually get the book so chamber of secrets definitely works.

message 244: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) I think I'll read The Reptile Room since I own it and I'll be able to finish it faster

message 245: by jessica (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments works for me 👌🏼

zaiyah (skellyzelly) J'ai fini!

message 248: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Team Coraline sure has a lot of books that we do for the same tasks

message 249: by jessica (last edited Aug 12, 2019 09:57AM) (new)

jessica (abookishjess) | 684 comments I'm sure it's fine, I wouldn't be too concerned. I mean there's always going to be overlapping / similar books because a lot of books are popular and there's only so many books for certain tasks (or at least easy to determine).

message 250: by zaiyah (new)

zaiyah (skellyzelly) Yes, but they also think we're looking at their spreadsheet to get ideas. I'm not. Is anyone else
