Emily (embowlden) | 1 comments Emily's 2015 Read Harder Challenge
0/24 tasks completed

I'm starting today and have just made a plan for January:

In the spirit of making 2015 a year of strong reading, I'm starting Book Riot's "Read Harder" challenge with a few books that have been collecting dust on my TBR and some that are way outside of my normal book boundaries:

Task 14: An award winner. I'm reading Salvage the Bones now.

Task 24: Two self-improvement books. I read a lot about running and nutrition but decided to take a different angle on this and try Tiny Beautiful Things and Not That Kind of Girl, two books that will let me think about feminism and identity as I focus on integrating my identity as a mother and woman in ways that are more accepting (e.g., giving myself permission to have flaws).

Task 10: A microhistory. Along the same lines, I'm reading The Secret History of Wonderwoman.

Task 17: A collection of poetry. When I was younger, I was a stereotypical Sylvia Plath-quoting angsty teen who transformed into an equally-stereotypical votary of H.D. Over the years, I have lost touch with poetry and am really looking forward to trying Poisoned Apples.

Task 16: An audiobook. I love audiobooks for my commute (happily for gas prices/sadly for reading habits, my commute lasts 4 minutes, so the audible subscription isn't quite worth it). I downloaded Tim Robbins reading Fahrenheit 451—I haven't read it since high school and can't wait to savor his voice, although he'll have to really wow me to top Claire Dane's The Handmaid's Tale and (hubba hubba) Colin Firth's The End of the Affair.

Task 13: And a romance…A Rogue by Any Other Name is making its way onto my kindle. If I end up lusting after it, the series may be my guilty pleasure choice for the challenge.

Naberius I'm keeping track on my blog .... and already feel like just looking at this list is making me a better reader, because I see some challenges here. Not big on romance novels and audiobooks are tricky (I'm a podcast person when I'm cleaning my house and have a 10-minute commute, so audiobooks seem to take forever). But, I'm up for the challenge!!
