Poisoned Apples: Poems for You, My Pretty counts for retelling (task #15) and poems (task #17).
Brown Girl Dreaming counts for poems (task #17), LGBTQ author (task #5) and award winner (task #14).
Nimona author <25 (task #1) graphic novel (task #20)
Through the Woods graphic novel (task #20) LGBTQ author (task #5) short stories (task #3)

I plan on doing this as a fallback if things get difficult at crunch time. For instance, I plan on reading Geraldine Brooks's March, which covers at least two categories. If I can't finish another award-winner by December, I'm going to count it. :)

Hey, Elizabeth, I am planning on doing this, as well. Not, as Laura said, waiting to see how I progress, but with the intention of trying to broaden my reading more than once. I feel a little silly trying to make a book fit only one task, as if that's the most important aspect of the book (I'm thinking primarily of the different gender task). Also, I'm already a fan of certain categories, and I know that I'll read more than one book for those, anyway, lol! Though I'm perfectly aware that some categories may end up with only one check mark by year's end...

¹Fox, Finch & Tepper are a little publishing company that has grown out of Mr B.'s Emporium; an independent bookseller based in Bath, which I always make the effort to visit whenever I travel there. They've yet to publish a work of their own, but reading The Next Step in the Dance will presumably be the first step toward that.
²I'm expanding the definition of microhistory here to include biographical elements because (from what I've heard about the book) Wild Swans is as much about 20th Century China as it is about the 3 generations of women the book follows.
³Again, I'm expanding the definition of a "classic story" to include one of England's most remembered monarchs & his court. Plus, I would argue, the whole point of 'historical fiction' is to demonstrate different perspectives of something usually quite familiar.
⁴My grammar can be atrociousness at times.

Author under 25: Decline and Fall by [author:..."
Great selections and very ambitious! And I think your expansions work fine. Just a clarification about #8, officially it doesn't say "A Book set in Africa" but "A Book by an author from Africa' so Joseph Conrad doesn't really qualify. I think a lot of people are confused because the Asia one is just "takes place in Asia" so could be by a non-Asian author.
