Chronicler is perhaps tuned to believe in supermen and he dismisses the idea of demons , something similar in how certain people believe in God but not in ghosts.
Other than that explanation, I don;t know why
Or perhaps Chronicler has met people who had personally known Kvothe.
Another thing would be the human foible of believing what we are asked not to believe and vice versa.

I was really slow while reading NoTW.. I wanted to absorb every bit of it, and that couldn't happen if I ran, because I tend to skip a lot sometimes. :P

[at least, I used to, before the ebook era and where supply was limited. Nowadays too many new books which detain me from rereading my favourites]
