Is someone deleting posts? If yes, it seems to be making things wacky, e.g. the red "new" indicator is landing on the wrong post, causing me to miss earlier posts I didn't see.

A suggestion: instead of deleting a post that has become irrelevant, if that's what is happening, use the strikethrough html. It's < s > and < /s >.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Yeah, I'm deleting the 'currently unguessed' ones, and posting new ones.

message 103: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (veegood) | 248 comments I'm trying to play, but people keep guessing the ones I know before I can get there!

If someone gets one right, can the correct answer be posted in the comment where they're told they're right? Otherwise you have to go back through the posts to find what they wrote, as you can't see the name with the spoilers hidden. Which could get time-consuming as the thread gets bigger. Or maybe we could have a pinned post with the solved questions and their answers?

Why bother?

An entire thread can be pinned (made sticky), but not a post as far as I'm aware.

Sophie (notemily) | 477 comments the first post could be edited to add the solved questions and their answers.

I agree that deleting posts is confusing and causes the "unread" counter to go all weird. Just leave them or edit them to have placeholder text.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments I was deleting them, because that was one-click, instead of doing work :P /lazy

Cynthia | 186 comments I would just leave them :)

message 110: by Michele (new)

Michele | 2488 comments Yeah, I think it's ok to leave them -- to find the most recent you just go to the end of the comment list and work backwards.

Michele | 2488 comments Valerie wrote: "If someone gets one right, can the correct answer be posted in the comment where they're told they're right?"

That makes sense, but could we still put the answer under a spoiler tag in case new visitors to the thread want to guess before seeing the answer?

I see that the very first post in this thread is now being updated with all questions and answers -- nice! It may get very very long though :)

Aaron Nagy | 33 comments I can't really see a way to give a hint without giving it away, and I think the wording is a touch unfair...just one word would make all the difference but doing so now would give it away instantly so I would honestly say pull it off it's a touch unfair.

Michele wrote: "Ooh! Is #16 [spoilers removed]?"

Yes.

message 113: by Cynthia (new)

Cynthia | 186 comments Aaron, I'm thinking for #12 is it (view spoiler) Or maybe (view spoiler)

message 114: by Michele (new)

Michele | 2488 comments Aaron wrote: "Yes"

Yay! That was a brilliant description :)

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments Although, Aaron, we should be writing the 'you are correct' with the actual answers to the question, as suggested.

Also, I agree, brilliant :D

You can't on an Iphone"

Try pressing the "123" key (if you're viewing letters on the keyboard), then the "#+=" key. Special characters are hidden on an iPhone.

Sorry, but no. You need to think outside the genre. Also, every word in the clue has significance.

Michael

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments The only words that don't have special significance to that guess are 'the' 'of' '...' and 'or'. Since all the rest match. :P

How about (view spoiler)?
