Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments Seem like they shouldn’t be too hard - I feel like there are a lot of books with red covers!

message 52: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments I’ve got a couple that count for that and many with weapons on the cover, a couple with poison and initials in JOKER.

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments Christine,

How was Joyride? I've only read 1 thing by Ketchum but I enjoyed it!

Upton | 932 comments Carrie wrote: "Christine,

I didn't care for this one as much as a previous book of his that I had read. I read The Girl Next Door and that was a true crime book and I thought it was well written. Jack Ketchum isa pretty intense writer and that worked for The Girl Next Door.

Joyride was splatterpunk and while I am fine reading graphic scenes, I didn't think this had much of a story to back it up. I thought the premise sounded good; it just didn't work for me.

message 55: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments Girl Next Door is what I read as well.

I’ve not heard of splatterpunk before but I gather the meaning from the name. Will you read anything by him again?

message 56: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments I want to apologize. I made a mistake. I finished a book by T J Klune for Joker and it doesn’t work. 🤦‍♀️

message 57: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments I'm still reading for Joker, so you have plenty of time to find something else.

I'm not sure if I will read another book if it is in that splatterpunk genre. I had never heard the term before I read the book. I will probably try one more by that author. One good, one bad, I need a tiebreaker.

message 58: by Shaw (last edited Oct 03, 2024 01:38AM) (new)

Shaw | 692 comments I still have to finish my weapon on cover book so I’m not worried about the delay either.

message 59: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments I finished up my tasks, but don't hurry of you guys need time. I have plenty of other challenges to work on. Like both of you I am sure :)

message 60: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments All of my books are done as well but no pressure there either.

message 61: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments I posted my second book and will have the 3rd one done tonight to post tomorrow. I have not started on the color cover though.

message 62: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Do you want one of us to cover the color cover? I think I have a couple that will work. Or we can wait-it’s up to you.

message 63: by Carrie (last edited Oct 04, 2024 06:17PM) (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments That would be great Shaw. That way I can finish my JOKER book tonight and post tomorrow and we can get a new clown.

message 64: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Carrie wrote: "That would be great Shaw. That way I can finish my JOKER book tonight and post tomorrow and we can get a new clown."

Sounds like a great plan.

I work all weekend until late Sunday afternoon. I can help then if it is still needed :)

message 66: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments I am going with The Boyfriend by Freida McFadden for the cover color task even though it wasn't one of the books I had planned for it. But it will be a quick read so I will be done with it this morning some time.
And Christine - I think it is your turn to pick the clown so if you want to let us know your choice we can post to the prisoner drop off later today.

message 67: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments My book has been added so we can post to the prisoner drop off once we make a selection. Thanks Shaw for the color task help (and thanks Christine for the offer) 😊

message 68: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments Carrie - it is your turn to pick a clown :)

message 69: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Or we could just go with whoever posts to the Prisoner Drop Off just picks the next clown. Cuz I apparently can't keep track of the rotation otherwise. lol

message 70: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments That is fine with me!

message 71: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments Hey, the internet is down here at home, and I am trying to see things on my stupid phone. Are we checked in for completing the Joker?

message 72: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Not yet-I was waiting for all of us to vote or for the next clown pick. But I guess I can just post us as finished and we can let Carrie pick the next few times if she doesn’t agree.

message 73: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Ok- posted to Prisoner Drop Off. I picked Stitches for the next clown.

message 74: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments Sorry guys. I didn't realize it was my turn!

Thanks for checking in and picking a clown 😊

message 75: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments It's all good- the rotation got a bit confusing there so it should be easier to just pick one when whoever posts the completion. But if there’s a particular clown that anyone would like just throw it out there and it can be picked instead.

Stitches
description
Stitches is a birthday clown who is late to a birthday party, where he was hired to entertain some 10-year-olds. One of the children ties his shoelaces together in a prank leading to his death. A group of clowns use his clown egg to perform a ritual resulting in Stitches returning to life six years later. He is determined to exact revenge on the teenagers who contributed to his death.

Complete the following tasks
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books with 10 intact in the page count (example 210 pages or 108 pages)
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with a teenage MC
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books where someone celebrates a birthday
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books with the author's initials in STITCHES

message 77: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments I've got several for author's name and intact 10 and at least one for birthday. I think I've got one for teenage MC even though those are not my fav books.

message 78: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments This set seems a bit tougher than the last. I have 1 for the teenage MC. I'll have to browse for options for the other ones.

message 79: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments That birthday one is a really good challenging task.

message 80: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments I have one for teen MC and one for Birthday for sure. And the author's initials. I'm sure I can find one for 10 in the page number. I must have one somewhere.

I am sure I have others with a teenage character if needed.

Checking in. Is everyone still with us?

message 82: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments I think we all are- not overly chatty but working on our clown.

message 83: by Donna, Curator of Challenge Terrors (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7467 comments Mod
LOL, you guys don't have to be chatty. I haven't been getting as many check-ins. So I looked and noticed that some people are missing. I am trying to determine how many & if I need to combine teams.

message 84: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments I’m here. I’m reading for so many challenges, I don’t have time to be chatty ;)

message 85: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments I should be finished with my last Stitches book by the end of this week. I have a bunch of audiobooks on Audible + that expire at the end of the month so I wanted to get some of those finished first.

message 86: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Ok-I’m all done with my books. So if anyone needs any help just let me know.

message 87: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments I am on my last book. This one feels like it has taken me forever.

message 88: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Christine wrote: "I am on my last book. This one feels like it has taken me forever."

Excellent! But I understand that - I have a few of those books I'm slogging my way through as well.

message 89: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments Done. I had the hardest time finding a book for initials in Stitches. You would think that would be easy. at least I thought it would be easy.

How are you doing Carrie? Looks like you are close as well :) No pressure.

message 90: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments That combo of letters was tricky.
Carrie-I do have a couple more that fit the initials and one more for the 10 intact if you need me to take one.

message 91: by Carrie (last edited Oct 28, 2024 04:40PM) (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments Shaw,

That would be great! I would appreciate whichever one (although I think I may struggle more with the 10 one)

Thanks 😊

message 92: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Ok-I’ll read my 10 intact book. No problem.

message 93: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments Let me know if you need help with the other book.

message 94: by Carrie (last edited Oct 30, 2024 07:20PM) (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments I'm finished with my Stitches task. Thanks Christine!

I checked us in and picked Pennywise next.

message 95: by Upton (new)

Upton | 932 comments Yay! I swear I think that last one was the hardest one yet. I had a tough time with that one.

message 96: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments Nice! Agreed - it didn't seem too bad but then those tasks were some really challenging ones.

message 97: by Donna, Curator of Challenge Terrors (new)

Donna (dkflynn33) | 7467 comments Mod
So you guys are saying that my challenge is....challenging? That's what I like to hear. Maybe you should choose a really fun clown next time. One with the letter H (and is plural) is really fun! A whole different type of challenge...

Pennywise (IT)
description

IT is a shapeshifting creature from the species known as Deadlights. IT arrived on Earth in an event similar to an asteroid impact landing in Derry, Maine. Once people settled here, IT adopted a 25-27 year hibernation, waking to kill and eat.

Its true form seems to be a female spider but it can morph into any human animal, nonhuman animal or object, and any combination thereof. There are benefits to this ability because IT can manipulate its targets by appearing as loved ones to lure them into traps or as their worst fears. It's favorite form is that of a clown named "Pennywise" because small children love clowns. At the same time, many people fear clowns.

IT feeds on humans but prefers children as they are easier to scare and manipulate. According to the creature, frightened flesh tastes better and uses fear to "salt the meat".

To capture IT, he must be in his clown form or he will trick you. You must force him into his clown form BEFORE you chain him up. Spell out CLOWN. Then complete the chains below.
C
L
O
W
N

Complete the following tasks Must complete the spellout above 1st
Arm 1: Read a chain of 3 books set in Maine
Arm 2: Read a chain of 3 books with shapeshifters
Leg 1: Read a chain of 3 books that start with a letter in SPIDER
Leg 2: Read a chain of 3 books that have 25 or 27 intact in the page count (example: 250 pgs or 127 pgs)

message 99: by Shaw (new)

Shaw | 692 comments I’m currently reading a book that will count for L in clown. And I’ve got several that will count for N.
I’ll keep my book set in Maine and my shapeshifter one until we get to that part.

message 100: by Carrie (new)

Carrie (carriele1216) | 1151 comments I think we know what clown to pick next!!! Donna's temptation is too good to pass by!!

I can grab the C in clown. I'll try to get it down as fast as possible!
