This may seem dumb. But I mean how did you started actually reading books. A lot of you started the moment you could and others - like me - when they where older.

Also, those of you who read in English when it is not even your language. We have a lot of people from different places and I've heard some funny stories as how some people got into reading.

Now I want to hear yours :)

As for me: My mom got me the twilight books when I was 15 on Christmas. I had never read a book in my LIFE. but well, I gave them a shot. Loved them so much I wanted to keep reading. Problem: There aren't that many books is Spanish - at least for YA - and so I figured. Want to read? You learn English. and I did.

It has been 2 yeas since I started reading :D

Erum | 15 comments I started to read when I first came to America. That was like 6 years ago. I didn't know how to speak it fluelently so I only read what I had to like the newspaper or stuff for homework. Its funny actualy how it happened. "Daddy, what does this say?!?"

Since than I have read more series than I can count.

Rachel Alice | 147 comments My mom taught me to read when I was three. It took me a while to get into books (Jane and Peter. Peter and Jane. This is a dog. Peter and Jane like the dog. Yeah, not that interesting), but once I started reading books on my own I couldn't stop. I was reading chapter books by the time I was in kindergarten.

♫♫☺Allie☺♫♫ (alliwicious) | 428 comments I've been reading since the age of hmmmmm two I would say. Actually my earliest memory is of me reading The Foot Book by Dr. Suess. I've been reading books ever since. I think I started reading chapter books in 1st grade.

Georgiana | 6 comments OMG jude you learnt english was it hard i want to learn i language but i suck thats totally COOL

nightlyreadingheather (heatherhy01) I had always enjoyed reading and every now and then, I would read a book that looked interesting. There was all this hype going on about Twilight and so I bought the book, but did not read it for months. One day, I figured that I would give it a try and LOVED it! I had never looked back.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

I never hated reading, but I never really liked it until I was 7 in the third grade. I was reading a YA book and I started looking for other books and by 4th grade I was the residential bookworm. :D

LOL, it wasn't that hard. I knew English (how to talk, pronounce and understand) though nothing about writing, much less reading it. I both all 4 of the twilight books again in English. a Mexican-English dictionary. Read all 4 of 'em once more, out loud. and in 2 weeks I had finished and was reading The Host (Also my Sthep. M.) and I was done :)

Mostly it takes dedications. But it really was simple :)

message 11: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisaess) | 395 comments Well in primary school, we were sort of forced to read books. But I trudged through those and thought they were meh. It wasn't until Twilight came along that I realised how great reading was. When I finished reading Twilight, I went out and started reading all of these other YA books and well, here I am!

message 26: by Ryn (new)

Ryn (rynj) Oooooooohhhhh. I knew that.... So you speak spanish in 'real life' right?

message 27: by Emelie (new)

Emelie (emli95) I've always enjoyed reading, even if it was mostly books about horses until I was like... eleven, twelve? (Yes, I was book crazy back then, too)
Then when I was twelve or something I read the Inheritance Cycle (I don't know if it was becaused I loved dragons back then too or if my cousin recommended it to me) and I was stuck. Then I read Twilight, just because everyone told me it was so good and I wanted to check it out - and because of Twilight (and maybe the Inheritance Cycle) I found this whole wide world of YA fantasy and paranormal romance, and now I'm stuck and can't get out (NEVER!!<3).

I'm from Sweden, so my first language is Swedish, but I've always been pretty good at English (I love English) and I found this bookseries (House of Night) at the internet and thought I'd read it (and the Twilight Saga in English since I was more OBSESSED with it back then than I am now). I read the first book of HON, then I didn't read the rest of the books until a year later, and I found more and more books in English who hadn't been translated yet - so I bought and read the books I found, got to know the English writings ans now I'm stuck. I've read one book in english this year, and that was because I had to (yes, I askes my teacher if I could read a book in English instead and she said no).

That's my story, the books are always so much better in its original language, and I prefer reading English books (believe it or not, but there's only ONE Swedish author I like, and his books has not been translated to English, but if they ever will be.. I strongly recommend the fantasy series by Henrik Larsson).

I feel like I write too much sometimes...

Yup :). Though I spend every second I can in San Diego. I just take the car and go ^^

message 29: by Lauren (last edited Mar 31, 2011 12:16PM) (new)

Lauren Ahh. How I started reading. It was because of laziness and boredom. It was my senior year of high school (last year) and I didn't do much (I took "cupcake" classes), so for the first time in my school career I got a book from the library to read for pleasure.

The FIRST book that got me interested to find more books I might like was Twisted by Laurie Halse Anderson. Then came more books shortly after that...like: Sarah Dessen's books, The Hunger Games, Anne Osterlund, Graceling, and other. I just snowballed from there and I would go to the library multiple times during the week.

It's kind of a boring story. If I was a complusive liar (like my little brother) I would probably give you guys a better story. :P

Oh, yeah. I speak English and read in English. I really suck at any language I try to learn.

message 32: by Ryn (new)

Ryn (rynj) Yeah... Spanish class hasn't gotten to too much of the word arangement stuff... I get confused with the whole change from 'Where are you from?' to 'From where are (you)?' and the whole thing with verbs not necesarily having to be placed next to their nouns cus you already know what it's talking about to an extent... Yeah. And Adjectives coming after the noun. That confuses me too. Maybe you can help me with my tarea. That's homework, right?

Yeah, though I did not understand one word you said... nouns and adjectives? I don't know any about them in Spanish xD, I just talk like I know I... talk ^^.

I know more English than Spanish O.O... omg

message 34: by Ryn (new)

Ryn (rynj) XD! Well, in english, we say pretty much, "Where are you from?" as you will know. But the litteral translation from english to spanish if you take the individual meanings of the words means, well here.

De donde eres?
from where (You) are ((You in parenth because tu is not actually included.))

So, litterally, the placement of the words is different, but means the same thing. It's just... confusing. Scince you've known it from birth it's gprobably not tough. Like supposedly English is the hardest language to learn, but to me it's the easiest, so... yeah.

You kidding right?

I don't place accent because how hard they are.

I can't tell the difference between V,B or C,S,Z or Y,LL.

Spanish is WAY to confusing. You are right U_U

Audrey (mintcat) | 60 comments okay so the first book I read over 100 pages was The Old Willis Place: A Ghost Story in the 4th grade but I really started reading when I wwwwwwnt to visit a friend in Georgia and she told me about the Twilight saga and I bought the first book. I was done with the series by the end of the year ( I started in around November I know a long time)

message 38: by Anna Kay (last edited Apr 09, 2011 07:38PM) (new)

Anna Kay (annakaybooks) I went pretty much from learning the alphabet and how to read when I was 5 or 6 to being at a sixth grade level when I was in second grade. But I think the book that truly cemented me as a reader was 'Anne of Green Gables' when I bought it at a book fair when I was 8 years old. That book was the first that truly transported me and evoked truly strong emotions. I was ruined for Goosebumps forever after that! :) Not for Fear Street though, or many other 'so-bad-its-good' teen paperbacks! I was bullied a lot as a kid, so much that my only real friends were my books pretty much until high school. By that time, reading was such a part of me I knew I'd never quit! Also, I find most adult books boring and depsressing so...I am a YA lifer.

message 44: by aien (new)

aien (anzhela) | 1 comments I started reading novels when I was in high school. I remember reading Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, etc...But when I was in elementary, I was already reading comic books and hoarding magazines and reader's digests LOL.

message 45: by Johanness (new)

Johanness (cookiesandcute) | 46 comments I HATED books, hated them so much up until I was 10-11ish and I moved to Australia. Then I kind of got bored all the time, there was NOTHING to do, so I just started reading books, not big ones, that wasn't until I was in year 6, moved schools and what nots.
Now I basically rob my parents of their money so I can buy me some YA Books. Trilogies, Series, Singles, love them all. Fantasy, Fiction, Horror, Science Fic, Fan Fiction, what ever captivates me I go for it now.

message 46: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (lisaess) | 395 comments LOL. I've never read a comic book. They never appealed to me =| Go magazines though! Haha.

message 47: by Lexi (new)

Lexi (alexisneuville) My parents read a lot, so I kinda just hopped on the bandwagon. My brother doesn't read anything though...
Also, in 7th grade (I'm in 9th grade now) we had to read so many minutes every week so I was constantly reading books because I finished them so fast.

Over the years I just keep on reading more and more :)

message 48: by Is (new)

Is (themisadventuresofisnikki) | 111 comments For me, it was like a hobby. Books were there since the beginning, I remember when I first started to read that fascnited and I couldn't stop. When I was in elementary I used to check book out all the time. And I still remember when I got my first book(like own) and which one it was. Book are my life whenever I can.

message 49: by Pamela (new)

Pamela (waterspout) | 370 comments My reading teacher recommends great books to us. The first one she said was Harry Potter when I was in 3rd grade and I ignored her. She recommended Twilight when I was in 5th grade. Somehow, I listened to her and started reading it (I read Breaking Dawn First, then Eclipse, Twilight and New Moon). It became my favorite book and I started to read books. Vamps, Vampire Diaries, In the Forests of the Night and Shattered Mirror were the first books I bought after that with only one thing the same among all of them: they were all vampire books. Oh, well... I won't bore you. Just look at my review for Twilight and Harry Potter for a more complete story, kind of.

But if you really want to know when I started reading books against my will, it was since I was in Grade 1. There was always a Summer Home Reading wherein you have to read two books as your homework for summer. It really sucked that way, being forced to read books.
