I read A City So Grand by Stephen Puleo, a non-fiction historical work detailing the social and technolgical progress of Boston (I now live outside Boston) from 1850-1900. A pretty good book. Puleo's book Dark Tide is really good and tells the story of the great molasses flood in Boston in 1919.

by Allen C. Guelzo, an overview of the familiar Lincoln story with a focus on Lincoln as a person who turned what might have been a disadvantage (height, education, speech) and turned them into positives over and over in his life

I read The Feast Nearby: How I lost my job, buried a marriage, and found my way by keeping chickens, foraging, preserving, bartering, and eating locally by Robin Mather. This book focuses on the author's year spent cooking and eating local foods. Cooking and eating make me happy!

I definitely need to eat healthier on a more consistent basis and one of the better ways to do that is to make it more convenient. What is more convenient than to walk out your back door to grab a few things for dinner. Things that are good for you that you've grown yourself without harsh chemicals. i chose to read The Freedom Writers Diary, hoping that it would spark a fire under me - one that would help me inspire my students to become aware of, and fight for, social justice and change. i think that i'll follow this book up with the teacher's handbook, because this book didn't quite address HOW to get your students pointed in that direction, but it WAS inspiring enough to make want to follow up.
