ms.petra (mspetra) I set up the weekly football pool for those of you so inclined. Just PM me and I will get you the group ID# and the password. It is a yahoo Pro Pick'em game. Your sports minded family members are welcome as well.
We will pick the winners of each game each week. We will also use confidence points. Don't be intimidated by this because all it is, for those of you unfamiliar, is assigning a point value to each game based on how sure you are of your pick. So if there are 16 games, each game gets a point value 1-16. You accumulate points for each game you pick correctly over the entire season.
It is really fun people! Let's watch some FOOTBALL!

hey P, tell me how to do this?

Phil | 11837 comments Jim wrote: "I'm will be in as soon as I remember my password."

Ha! I went through that, too. I haven't used my Yahoo! account for five or six years -- since the last time I was in a Fantasy Football league.

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Thanks for the invite Ms P., but I know squat about football.

message 11: by Michael (new)

Michael How does the confidence point thing work? 16 is our most confident and 1 is our least confident or vice versa?

message 12: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments You want to accumulate points, so give your "lock of the week" sixteen points.

message 13: by Michael (new)

Michael Got it. Thanks, Phil!

message 14: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) sorry guys, long day at work. so just what Charly and Phil said. You pick all your winners and then assign a point value based on how confident you are. The first couple few weeks there will be 16 games, so assign a point value from 1-16 to each game. On the bye weeks, there may only be 13 or 14 picks. Yahoo will keep track of our points on out TC GRIDIRON home page. You can check totals in real time while watching and compare your scores with other players. It just makes game day more fun. We are playing for bragging rights and I will probably come up with some cheezy award for the 1st place winner. You all feel free to make bets among yourselves if you so desire. ;) Also get creative with your game name... I am Hopeless Homer. Also, I set the parameters to drop your lowest scoring week. So, if you are on vaca or something comes up and you miss a week your still good. From playing this at work, I have found people are pretty competitive and rarely miss a week, but just in case. Carry on, gentlemen.
P.S. LADIES... THIS REALLY IS FUN and you don't have to be a football expert to play! Join in!

message 15: by [deleted user] (new)

I'll sign up. If you don't hear from me by the end of the week, bug me about this.

message 16: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) The first game is tomorrow! You still have time to sign up and have until 5 minutes before tomorrow's game to enter your picks.
Have Fun! :)

message 21: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments May we assume "Hopeless Homer" will be giving 16 points to Denver every week?

message 22: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) nope that went to GB this week.
Someone told me a long time ago, don't bet with your heart.

message 23: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) FYI: if you go to our TC Gridiron page and click on Group Picks you can see what everyone put on the games. This is visible once the game starts... have fun everyone :)

message 24: by Mary (new)

Mary (merrussell) Dumb question maybe but how come we can't pick the Broncos/Raiders game?

message 25: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments yikes. i think i sucked this week

message 26: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Phil and Raider both still have their 16 pt pick... nice job.
got you right where I want you... :)

message 27: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments phil did a good job picking this week. still don't understand the confidence points but if i don't make the right picks it doesn't matter anyway :)

message 28: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Never underestimate luck. I got Buffalo correct because my FIL had his TV on while I was at the computer (actually, he never turns his TV off) and an ESPN host I respect said he couldn't understand all the fuss about KC. He was picking Buffalo to win outright.

message 29: by Mary (new)

Mary (merrussell) I learned you actually have to pick games to get points :)

message 30: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments Congrats Lee & Phil.

message 31: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) that was ugly last night... Bronco Nation is going to feel the effects of Josh McDaniels for a while... wish we still had Peyton Hillis and that Tebow was playing. Orton is awful in the red zone. 1st Broncos home opener loss since 2000.

message 32: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments You made Oakland look pretty decent, despite all the penalties they had.

Janikowski is a beast of a kicker.

And to the dreaded Raiders!

Thanks, Jim. I usually suck ass at this game, so doing well was quite a surprise.

Grandpa (Polish himself) called Janikowski, "another dumb Polack with a big foot." He enjoyed the kick -- it happened just before G-Pa passed out in his recliner.

message 36: by Lee (new)

Lee | 701 comments lol @ grandpa!

Altitude or not, he does have a big leg.

I'm calling the first week total luck Phil! I usually suck at these also!

message 37: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i actually have a decision between the colts and the browns this week. [singing "it's the end of the world as we know it..."]

message 38: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments For what it's worth, I think I'm going with the Colts. After all, Cleveland was bad enough to lose to Cincinnati at home. The Colts are well coached and have now had more reps with their new QB. Their loss was to a very strong team.

I saw a fantasy site that said Colt McCoy will throw for 3 TDs and Hillis will run for 2. I think that guy either has them on his team, or is just full of shit.

Just my opinion, of course, and I may change my mind by game day.

message 39: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) I'm going Browns as well...

message 40: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments Because......?

message 41: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments i might too. with collins still staggering around in the backfield, our running game being well....our running game and now gary brackett out for sunday (he is the heart of the D) plus caldwell still coaching i may just pick against my team. *gasp*

message 42: by Kevin (new)

Kevin (ksprink) | 11469 comments made my picks. read em and weep SUCKA's

(btw - i didn't look at NFL lines prior to making the picks but i really seemed to go with favs based on gut instinct alone)

message 43: by Jim (new)

Jim | 6484 comments I had a hard time making my picks this week, but hopefully I get more right than wrong.

message 45: by Phil (new)

Phil | 11837 comments @Minnesota vs. Tampa Bay

Discuss.

message 46: by Michael (new)

Michael The Vikings are a slight favorite at home and in the home opener so there isn't much confidence in the team. Stop Adrian Peterson and they have no long threat. I picked TB but I'm close to the bottom of the standings!

message 47: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Carolina is looking good in the first half, as well.

message 48: by Lee (new)

Lee | 701 comments I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the half time score of the Oakland game. After what Buffalo did to KC, maybe yer right Petra....maybe KC is going to be bad this year.

message 49: by Lee (new)

Lee | 701 comments Yep....with the Black & Silver, should have known the pleasant surprise wouldn't last. Meltdown in the second half, out scored 32-14...

message 50: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) yes, Lee. I guess that is why I shouldn't comment before the game is over. :)
