Now I have started Cinder. Both the book and the narration seem pretty good so far.

I listened to that a while back...LOOOOOVED it."
I'm not sure how I feel about it just yet.

Really enjoyed this book. It had far more to the plot than just a re-telling of the Cinderella fairytale. It's a pity book two has not been released yet!.
The narrator had a very young voice and this worked for most of the characters, but not all. On the whole though, the narration from Rebecca Soler was good.

Now I'm onto

Amanda, How are you enjoying

I finally started listening to

Michael - I am really glad to hear that you are enjoying The Immortal Rules. It's in my next 4 or 5 "to reads," and I am really looking forward to it!

That's on my list. Glad to hear it's good.
I've got three books going on right now. The Quiet American, The Things They Carried, and The Red Queen.

It took me a little while to become accustomed to Rebecca Soler's narration. She does sound very young!.

I'm just over half way through both books, and both have been very enjoyable. If I was forced to pick one over the other then it would be Paladin of Souls. Chalion is such a richly realized world, while in comparison the world of Divergent seems a little vague.
I'll definitely add some of Julie Kagawa's books to my to-read list.

Early thank you for picking this for me Gavin :)

The narrator, Michael Page, was excellent. He had a wide range of voices and not a single one was irritating.
Now I'm onto

Nikki - I enjoyed the narration on Sarah's Key. The narrator, when she speaks French, is just lovely. I watch the movie last week and as always, the book is better. It helped to read the book first as the movie skipped over a lot of information.
I am now listening to

I'll have to check out The Rose Garden. I really enjoyed the other book I just read by her.

Started

Jennifer, I went ahead & used one of my credits to get

I'm glad to hear you enjoyed The Rook because I plan to listen to it sometime this month.
Did you mean The Devil All the Time by Donald Ray Pollock?. I have not read it but it does sound very dark. It's not the sort of book that normally interests me, but I think I'll add this to my to-read list. It's about time I tried something new!.

Now I'm listening to

I listened to Fareheit 451 and really enjoyed it. I didnt even realize it was read by the author, but generally I like it when the author reads the book.
I just finished The Things They Carried and just loved it.

Lena, it's possible your version of Fahrenheit 451 was not narrated by Ray Bradbury. There are a least four different versions of the audiobook available at Audible alone. The Christopher Hurt narrated version seems to be the most popular version by far. The fact that the Bradbury narrated version is one hour and twenty minutes longer than the Hurt version of the same book hints at the massive differences in style.
I've since listened to the Audible samples of the other versions, and they all sound as if they would have been a better buy. I suppose that's what I get for not paying attention to what I buy!.
I can understand the appeal of an author narrating their own book. Because of course, their interpretation of the characters and plot will be as true as possible. That said I've never really enjoyed any of these self narrated audiobooks', so if possible, I'll try to avoid them in the future.

Started the audio of

I also had a quick question. I thought I saw a thread for it around here some place. Can't seem to find it when I'm looking for it now though. But what is the difference between abridged and unabridged audio? And actually what does these terms mean?

I am 3 hours away from finishing The Rose Garden and I Love this book. It is just a really sweet, romantic read. I can't wait to find out how she wraps it all up. As of right now, I really can't see how she will do it.

Now I'm listening to Vampire Academy. I have heard a lot of good things about the series.
It's been a good week for free audiobooks. I picked up Sense and Sensibility and Irises from Audio Sync, and Vixen and The Chicago Way from Random House Audio.

Cherale...sorry, I didn't see your question about the abridged & unabridged. Here's the link to the thread that explains it.

I'm listening to an abridged version of Paradise by Judith McNaught and while there is nothing made up, I'm familiar enough with the story to notice the massive chunks that have been edited out. It plays havoc with the pacing of the plot.

Yeah I don't think I'm going to enjoy the abridged versions of books I consider 'fun'. I do still think it could be a good idea for some of those stuffy old classics. A little less description and a little more action surely cannot be a bad thing?.

Yeah I don't think I'm going to enjoy the abridg..."
Too true. Hence I was thinking of the cliff notes version. You get the meat you are after without the excess detailing. And come to think of it if there is abridged version of Little Women, I might actually finish that.
I hate when that happens Amanda. Always leaves me unsure how to rate or review a story when it is like that.

The book first came to my attention when I searching for more audiobooks narrated by the excellent Michael Page. As it happens I would not have been able to buy the Page version until September, so I decided to give the Librivox version a chance. Glad I did!. It was narrated superbly by Karen Savage and I found very little difference between it and a professional recording.

Karen Savage also narrates a few Jane Austen audiobooks so if I enjoy Sense and Sensibility, I'll give those a try as well.
Since the Librivox recordings are free it never hurts to give them a try!. You can also sample them on the Librivox website, which is useful as there is sometimes multiple different versions of the same book available
I've downloaded a copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray and Frankenstein from Librivox, so I'll be sure to mention it if they turn out to be any good.
