Shelley I STILL listening to The Double Life of Anna Day, finding it slow - thinking I know how is going to end!!

message 252: by Carmela (new)

Carmela I am listening to A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty. It is different from most of what I listen to, but I am enjoying it. I am close to the end of it. I am not sure what I will listen to next.

message 253: by Simon (new)

Simon Cooper (simonacooperesq) | 20 comments Started to re-read the glorious 'Madame Bovary' via audiobook after a 30 year gap from the original paper read. A sharp contrast in style and quality to M C Hyland's 'This is How', which was a compelling audioread if slightly lacking in depth. Also looking forward to 'Room' which defeated me on the page, despite strong recommendations. Incidentally, I'd love to find an audio copy of 'Sentimental Education', do you think one exists?

message 255: by Jennifer C (new)

Jennifer C I finished The End of the Affair by Graham Greene yesterday. I did not like it at all. This book was fill with much hate. The author does start the book out with warning that it is a story about hate, but I never thought that the entire story would permeate with hatred the way it did. I definitely did not like it at all.

I then started the audio of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. I am throughly enjoying this. I do find it amazing that this is the same writer who wrote Wicked as part of the Oz storyline. Wicked is a COMPLETELY different outlook and feel and much more geared toward an adult than a child. I love the simplicity of which he wrote Wizard of Oz, lol, and as I listen to it, scenes from the movie and the songs from the movie play over and over in my mind. For instance - right now I have We are off to see the wizard in my head and I am afraid its not going anywhere soon. :)

☻Nikki☻ (nikkic1998) | 480 comments I finished Spider’s Revenge (Elemental Assassin, #5) by Jennifer Estep (Book 5 in Elemental Assassin series) and Loved it!! The first little bit was kinda slow but absolutely loved it once it picked up. I really do enjoy this series in audio.

Just started Dragonfly in Amber (Outlander, #2) by Diana Gabaldon this morning. I have been wanting to continue the Outlander series for ages & finally decided to go for it. I have the entire series on audio & they are major audio reads. All of them are 34 hours or longer (I think one is like 57 hours...Yikes!!). I'll have to take these type books in small doses. Maybe one a year or so.

Kathryn | 40 comments After I listened to Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1) by Marissa Meyer , I got into a weird lit-fit and downloaded way too many books from the library. I blazed through Divergent (Divergent, #1) by Veronica Roth but I still have The Black Cauldron (The Chronicles of Prydain, #2) by Lloyd Alexander , The Hallowed Hunt (Chalion, #3) by Lois McMaster Bujold , Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson , Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie , The Children's Book by A.S. Byatt , The Knife of Never Letting Go (Chaos Walking, #1) by Patrick Ness , The Magician's Elephant by Kate DiCamillo , Leviathan (Leviathan, #1) by Scott Westerfeld and more. Too much of a good thing. :(

When I shelved a couple of years ago I was so happy to be able to just drop the new ones where they belonged. Since then I moved on to Audible and Kindle so they won't cause a new sort and shelve dilemma. I love my large collection and really don't care that I will never read them all.

message 291: by Tomerobber (new)

Tomerobber | 98 comments Hi Shirley,
I finished the King and the Lycett audiobooks last noc. - now I have 4 more library books to go . . . 1 print, 1 eBook, and 2 audiobooks. My problem is that as fast as I get one read - I buy 3-4 more. ;-)

message 292: by Shirley (new)

Hi Again,
I just retired last year . . so now I have time to read ;-) That's the reason I have so many books in my TBR stack . . I bought several at a time and have the majority on various iPads and iTouches. I was getting ready for retirement.
Ahhhh, the joy of retirement . . doing things because you WANT to . . not because you HAVE to . . :-)

message 294: by Shirley (new)

Shirley (shirleythekindlereader) Still doing Have to list but 9 hours are not spent at a job.

We don't have a great library so I buy mine and sales like this are great. Especially when I can share with my sister.

message 295: by Tomerobber (new)

Tomerobber | 98 comments Audible has such great sales . . Every time I use up all my current credits . . they always send me a special deal to buy 3 credits for $35. And after reading about the upgrade to the plat. program from the gold . . . Now I get 2 credits/month . . . so I'll be stocking up some more.
That's great that you can share with someone else . . most of my other friends either don't live close by or aren't prolific readers . . and haven't joined the digital publishing revolution.
