Day (430) – Pressure Cracks

You stand there, surrounded by this energy…not the type of energy that you can feed off of but the type that drains you while you aren’t looking…like a small hole in a soda can. The type of energy that you can see and feel the color of your heart changing along with the level of toxicity in your bloodstream because of the glass in your hand. It comes over you suddenly. Your body starts to feel warm and numb and you look out onto the crowd – and you can feel it – that energy – running up your back and resting itself on your shoulders. And there you stand…thinking…a stale empty face – but underneath it all, you are mulling beyond anyones imagination. You couldn’t describe it well if you wanted to. So you take another sip and lean your back up against anything you can find. You watch.

The only way you can know the enemy sometimes is to walk right through that threshold and be there for a while. You have to spend time in the dark to fully understand what is trying to be accomplished. And you see the others, many of which don’t even know that this indeed is the dark. Not the act, but the energy. There is a lot of it, but you have to be careful because this energy is naturally a trickster. It will turn you into things you never wanted to be, make you do things that you will regret, and have you say things that you never had the heart to say…often of times leading to disastrous results. It is a harmony killer…taking everything you stand for and flipping the board.

There I stood, feeling the pressure, hearing the whispers that were all too familiar to be years ago. But there is no fighting it. No sword sharp enough to slice its fleeting but overwhelming ability to move around your feeble barriers with ease. The only way is to be with it. To hear it. To listen to it. And to be patient – because if you are patient with those whispers they will eventually leave to find another soul. So there I stood, completely overwhelmed and at the same time in control of everything in my heart. My mind was a fierce battle, but my heart was steady. “I’ve been here countless times” I told myself. “Ride it out.” And as I looked out onto the crowd, I knew, that I was meant for one thing – to expose this energy and to be the metaphorical cloak and arms that wrap around those who need it. To show that the light in the heart once you light it burns so hot that it could blind those who don’t understand it.

Day (428) – The Streak

Have you ever opened your eyes in the morning and felt like you were on a streak? A winning streak. A streak where you know that you are back on track and moving in the right direction? What would you do with this feeling? What can you do with this feeling? How will you take it and use it to change the world?

You feel like everything you are doing is right. Not always right in that you succeed the first time, but right in that you are doing what you believe in. In the past few weeks, I had been stressing about money because I don’t see any results from my book sales 45 – 60 days after January 30th. So, I am living the poor author life. But I know that in due time, I will see the results of my hard work and use that to get to the next place. But more importantly, this whole process caused me to ponder more important questions. What is the value of money? Why are we so focused on money? What is my path and how does money play a part in that?

9d788a5827fce44e80654b37ebd0962d

And I realized, that it is more important to go out and do what you are passionate about and what you love…because if you love what you are doing, and you want to become the best at it, the money will come. The best of the best do well because they have put in the time and effort to become a master.

I am passionate…really passionate about one idea: inspiring people to live powerful and impassioned lives. How I can do that has become very clear to me after the months of graduation. The launching of my first book, my developing online magazine, speaking, coaching, the works. I know that I can create things that have never been created before…and that is a confidence I bring to the drawing board each and every day. And I know, that through anything, I can go after my dreams and make them happen.

Today is really about continuing your winning streak. How many days in life can you win back to back to back.

Day (427) – If

If

If you can keep your head when all about you

Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;

If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,

But make allowance for their doubting too:

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,

Or, being lied about, don’t deal in lies,

Or being hated don’t give way to hating,

And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise;

If you can dream—and not make dreams your master;

If you can think—and not make thoughts your aim,

If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster

And treat those two impostors just the same:.

If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken

Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,

Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,

And stoop and build’em up with worn-out tools;

If you can make one heap of all your winnings

And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,

And lose, and start again at your beginnings,

And never breathe a word about your loss:

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew

To serve your turn long after they are gone,

And so hold on when there is nothing in you

Except the Will which says to them: “Hold on!”

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,

Or walk with Kings—nor lose the common touch,

If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,

If all men count with you, but none too much:

If you can fill the unforgiving minute

With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,

Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,

And—which is more—you’ll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling

Day (426) – Your Path

20130317-150448.jpg

One of the most difficult things in the world is determining your own path. All the questions have to be asked…but the main question is “What do I want for my life?” Once you can answer that question, you have the ability to go out and try to achieve that dream. For me, for a couple years now, my purpose has been to inspire people to live powerful and impassioned lives. That has been one of the most fulfilling purposes I have ever had. And this brings me back to that main question…what do I really want for my life?

As I sit here on the beach for my little vacation, I think about the past 6 months and while there were some stressful times, I smile because I know that I fulfilled my purpose to the max and even overflowed that bucket. I think about my plans for the future, and I know with that same intent, I will achieve some great things…not for the sake of them being great, but because I will be making an impact on the world in a positive way.

Day (425) – Keep It Simple

05a4d8547de4a0e34d18962198135ad0

Take whatever is mulling in your head, break it down, and try to put it into three words. For me, right now, that looks like this: enjoy this moment. Doesn’t get much simpler than that. And as I look at “what’s next” for everything I am up to, I know that if I keep it simple, while explaining some pretty complex emotions and thoughts, I will be in good shape.

So today is short. Keep it simple.

Day (424) – While Mowing the Lawn

Lawnmower_t620

Those strokes of brilliance never come at the time you would expect them to. But yesterday, while mowing the lawn…yes…mowing the lawn – which is a cathartic activity in itself – I had a moment of significant mental clarity as the blades of long grass turned into sharp clean layers. And of course, it all relates back to life.

Sometimes the weeds grow in our mind. Those long, spiky, ugly greens that eventually overrun anything they come into contact with if you let them. But in the mind you cannot take out the RoundUp and spray it everywhere. Half the time when you do that on the lawn or around the yard you don’t actually kill the weed…you just killed the top layer. The visible part. But the roots are still lurking out of sight. In life, you have to get down to the root of the problem. Uncover what is really going on in your mind. You have to be vulnerable. You have to be honest.

So I am walking, mowing the lawn…and there was that strike of mental clarity. “Evan…you do this because _____.”…Woah…the root of the biggest weed in my mind was no exposed. And just like the grass…I cut it.

Day (423) – Balls and Strikes

39b7c0ff238fe3f8790b62d7687f84d3

Everything I have learned can be explained through baseball. Life is a game of balls and strikes. Every situation you face – every relationship you have is a new batter. You make your best pitch every chance you have…but here’s the kicker…life has an umpire that you have no control over. I have heard it many times that life is 90% how you react to the uncontrollable 10%. That 10% is the umpire.

I can’t tell you how many times I have been on the mound and thrown a fastball right down the heart of the plate that even Stevie Wonder could have called a strike…and the ump has a wild hair up his nose and decides to call it a ball. When I was younger, I used to get flustered and throw a fit or shake my head. Trust me…that does not help your relationship with the ump. But as time went on, I began to understand the concept that you cannot control the uncontrollables. You can make your best pitch and it can still go south for you. But what do you do in this moment? You have the choice to get “hot” or you can just smile. Take a short walk back to the grass behind the mound…take a deep breath to center yourself…and climb right back on the hill ready to pound the strike zone again. Your choice?

Think life is any different from this?

Make your pitch.
