hunger games are awesome. I read on all levels in all classes save romance and this was one of the most enjoyable books ive read in a while. I recommended it to my wife who finished it in one night. I love books like the giver and where the red fern grows but i dont think that most kids will understand or like them but i think they will love the hunger games.

That's kinda demeaning to 'kids'. I am 13, and when I was 10 everyone had read Where the Red Fern Grows and The Giver and both liked and understood them. I introduced my friends to the Hunger Games this year... There are lots of younger people who have read books with deep meaning.

theres a series called bloody jack adventures its about a girl pirate and it sawsome!!!!!!!! i recomend it its for 12 and older!

I would recommend:
*The Fablehaven series (5 books)
*The mysterious Benedict society (3 books)
*And the Immortal secrets of Nicholas Flamel series (4 of 6 released) Although, these books may be a bit dark and possibly too advanced for the class... I'm really not sure.
Anyway, I've really enjoyed all of these books, as has my little sister. I hope this helps!
Happy reading,
Jenn

Well, I've read the whole Twilight Saga and won't say that it was "The best thing that I'll ever and have ever read!" or say "That was the worst book ever!" but I can say that Twilight is something that's tasted most sweetly when read without depth. What I mean is, when you read, well, when I read, I read for the pure enjoyment of the thing and the thought that I can be somewhere else without going anywhere at all (except maybe to the bookshop or library.)
When I first read the Twilight Saga I thought it was brilliant and the best book I'd ever read in my whole life. On the first dozen read-throughs it was amazing and one day...
It lost some of it's spark, I began to question many aspects of it and see a lot of faults that I hadn't thought of before. That's because I had stopped reading it completely for thrill but had gone over the good things so many times that they had become boring and, eventually, bad.
Stephanie Meyer is still one of my favourite authors and I'm currently reading the Short Life of Bree Tanner, trying to read it without of too much thought.
To me, I know that Twilight will never be as good to me before as it once was but I can respect that it really is a great piece of writing and maybe...us Twilight fans are the ones to blame for delving too deep into SM's books.
Maybe we've forgotten how to simply read without too much questioning.
That's my hypothesis.

I have tried to read one of Rowling's HP books and didn't manage to get further than the first few pages (this was after reading Twilight)
Maybe J.K. really is an amazing writer but I can't see it because I've become so accustomed to other books that my mind simply cannot accept that another piece of writing could be better.
All writers could have as much potential as Stephanie Meyer or Rick Riordan or whoever you find a "good" writer but what if there's no such thing?
If you only ever read romances, chances are that's what you'll love the most.
If you only ever read action, well the same will probably happen.
I think a fairer judge of a writing would actually be a critic who has a fairly balanced opinion on all types of writing and has a very open mind.
Biased, that the word. I think it's a matter of bias.

I have read both the entire Harry Potter Series and Twilight Saga, and in MY OPINION would have to say that they are equally great books written be equally talented writers.
It seems to me that if one book or the other isn't to someone's particular liking, that makes it a bad book, and that is just ridiculous.
As for all the talking down on Twilight, I really have to ask where some of its coming from.
Some say that Harry Potter is about trust, loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice, (that which I agree to) but also that Twilight is just about an unhealthy obsession with some vampire, and that all the characters are just desperate and need to get a life (that which I do not agree to)!
I would think that anyone who has truly payed attention when reading the Twilight books could find moments of trust, loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice.
As for those who didn't, here some examples:
Oh boy, where to start...
Is Edward not sacrificing the safety of his family and Bella when he let's her know that he's a vampire?
Is Bella not sacrificing giving up her family, friends, and well, her entire human life when she becomes a vampire?
Is trust and loyalty not being tested when Bella tells Edward she'll marry him, and then kisses Jacob the next day?
Or what about friendship, when Jacob finds out that Bella is marrying Edward and becoming a Vampire.
Now I could go on and on, honestly I could, but I'm getting tired of typing so that will have to do.
Also, while some may think that Bella is just freakishly obsessed with Edward, others can understand that it isn't just a silly infatuation, but that Bella truly loves Edward, and that he loves her in return.
Also... (Not to bag on Harry Potter, because as I stated before, I agree that it is amazing) But is Voldemort who's life goal is to kill a young wizard to prove he's the baddest of the bad mean that he has more of a life just because Edward and Bella haven chosen to be each others?
I'm not hoping that all of you will understand me or agree with me on this, because I know that many of you won't, but I really just had to share MY OPINION, so whatever you decide about the books after reading... I really don't care, but thanks for reading, haha.

Well, I've read the whole Twilight Saga and won..."
I agree here in that more people should try reading for pure enjoyment, which is basically how I ALWAYS read. My boyfriend can't do it; he's one of those really smart people who reads slowly and critically, and sometimes I feel sorry for him because my aim is often just to sit down and enjoy the story.

However, I read the whole series of Harry Potter and yeah, it was overwhelming.

I'm with you Maya!!!"
AS AM I!
deathly Hallows = Best book ever! <3

I kinda agree, although i gotta say that Harry Potter has got to beat Twilight. Not because of the story and themes and things that you have mentioned, but because the way its written.
The Twilight series is great... But they are not very well written (sorry stephanie!). Plus I was brought up with the harry potter books! not that that counts, or means anything really, but... Yeah!
Oh oh oh, Harry Potter movies are also alot better than Twilight movies. Except for Eclipse. Damn Eclipse was amazing. hmmph. Im gonna stop here before i keep contradicting myself.
Go see Eclipse :D

TEAM PEETA! lol i cant wait for the third book!

So you're assuming we're not as creative as Stephanie Meyer? J.K. Rowling I can understand, but, come on, a fanfiction writer is more original than SMeyer. She changed any kind of lore that Vampires had to appease her and her strange fantasies.

Caralyn........ >_____> the idiocy of that statement was just....... No. Twilight is useless fluff at its best, whereas HP is actually good literature. Twilight sounds like something out of fanfiction.net and that's saying something. ^_^ I've read fanfics better than that crap >.<

Your right twilight is stupid"
