twilight isn't better than harry potter. Harry potter is better than the whole twilight series. I have read both.
Twilight isn't even a book. It's garbage (except the first book).

i know
theres something majorly wrong

message 209: by Erin (new)

Erin when i was little i thought that the harry potter books were the best books ever. then i discovered twilight and thought that the twilight saga was even better. now, neither series is my favorite, but i have read so many good books that i could never choose a favorite. HP is meant for a younger audience, 9-14. twilight is meant for age 12 and up. i think that when you read them greatly decides if you like them. i could read pride and prejudice right now and understand it somewhat, but i would probably appreciate it much more when i am an adult. bottom line: both are good but it all depends on what that person likes to read.

message 210: by Sarah (new)

Sarah this helped me remember which books i read before....

message 211: by Alicia (new)

yeah..like both books but i can definitely say that harry potter is in a different league.

message 213: by Mary Grace (new)

Mary Grace Nakao What?! Percy Jackson should really rule this list!!
LOL

message 214: by Asa (new)

Asa I think the best young adult book of the 100 listed above is To Kill a Mockingbird or Ender's Game, hands down. Harry Potter, Narnia, and The Little Prince are excellent but too infantile for a young adult category, while Twilight has no business on any top 100 list.

message 215: by Janet Flora (new)

Janet Flora Corso Some of these are really more middle grade reader than young adult, i think (i.e. "Charlotte's Web" "Superfudge") They would be on my list of best MG books.

message 216: by Lindsay (new)

Lindsay Busch Maya wrote: "Harry Pottor all the way!"

I'm with you! Harry Potters are my absolute favorite books. And Twilight goes ahead of them? I read the Twilight Series and it was good. But definitley NOT J.K Rowling's amazing fantasies of Harry Potter.

Hey I dont know if you've been replied to at all but I know some great books are the Hunger Games Series, Maggie Stiefvater is great too.

message 222: by Charity (new)

Agreed.

message 223: by Sigil (new)

Sigil In my opinion, this list has an identity issue. The idea of something being the "Best" is dependent on perspective, hence all opinions are relative. That said, aren't there a few universal values that should be met? Is this a list of books that have positive motifs that can benefit the reader and society as a whole or a popularity contest?

message 224: by Liz (last edited Apr 15, 2011 06:27AM) (new)

Liz Laini Taylor is the best YA fantasy author around. Lips Touch Three Times is breathtaking and is one of my favorite books of all time. Blackbringer and Silksinger are great for the YA in all of us. Waiting for Daughter of Smoke and Bone due out in October is driving me CrAzY.

Taylor's stories are exceptional; she's excellent at establishing mood/tone and her stories have a magical, old world feel making it easy to imagine them being whispered by firelight.

Shafia Caralyn wrote: "Twilight is waayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Harry Potter, Christina. And I read both."

It's really sad that you think that way, because Harry Potter shouldn't even be compared to Twilight. Harry Potter is a classic, it's teaches us so many things, unlike Twilight, because apparently, having a creepy boyfriend is more important than anything. Oh, and I read them both.

message 226: by Smartymardy111 (new)

message 232: by Matt (new)

Matt Twilight's on here? LOL.

message 233: by Katy (new)

Katy Twilight is crap off the list and into he'll with it and all the other vampire books

message 234: by Yhen (new)

Yhen Villas i love the twilight series, no offense. i respect other's opinion but i think they are both great authors, as well as their works too. and if the twilight series are the worst book ever written, they shouldn't be here at the list, right? the twilight series are on this list because people liked it. 'nuff said.

message 235: by Cassidy (new)

Cassidy All these books are worthy in their own way.

message 236: by Rach (new)

Rach Caralyn wrote: "Twilight is waayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Harry Potter, Christina. And I read both."

Christina wrote: "I can't believe Twilight has more votes than Harry Potter. That is just wrong."

i have read both too. please, meyer isnt half the writer rowling is. rowling created a whole of her own. a real plot, which keeps you edge making you want to know more and more, even if you knew that eventually voldemort would die. But twilight is just to make teenage girl dream about some nice handsome vampire who would fall in love with the average who doesn't have a strong personality. don't delude yourself. try reading twilight again in some 10 years then you come telling me the same thing. :P

message 237: by Rach (new)

Rach Ivory wrote: "seriously guys? ok think of it this way...... imagine you writing a book as big as twilight. she came up with a good idea too. obviously people like it. i dont think people like you would be cr..."

i LOVE reading, i like writing. obviously Meyer started writing with the idea in head of attracting more modern teenage girl than writing something worth reading even after 100 years. it isn't something inspiring, creative which drives you to another world. and if i were to start writing a story, true i wouldn't be able to do half the job Rowling did but i will be definitely proud of my work even if a handful of people read it, and bet it would a thousand times more creative than Meyer's stories.

message 238: by Katie (last edited Jun 07, 2011 03:33PM) (new)

Katie Zhao TWILIGHT. IS. CRAP.

CRAP. GOES. IN. TOILETS.

I made an account just to tell everyone this.

message 239: by Roseanne (new)

Roseanne Y'all need to get different past times...
Some books are excellent in story and in words... Some are just good in story and excellent in wording.... And still others are just OK on the word-for-word level and excellent on the story level.
Let us not forget that we all have different likes and dislikes and the world is not made up of 6 billion YOUS.

message 240: by Grace (new)

Grace Potter HARRY POTTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BEST YOUNG ADULT BOOKS EVER!!!!!!!!!!!

message 241: by [deleted user] (new)

Twilight will always be on the top of the lists now I guess, it has a huge fanbase. But I prefer Harry Potter - its story and they way it was written. No offense but I believe the Harry Potter books is better in quality. It comes down to what you prefer: a few appealing character in a romantic setting or a book with emphasis on the story. To each it's own.
I'm kind of disappointed The Alchemist isn't high up on the list, it's like a perfect guide of life's journeys for young adults.
With The Chronicles of Narnia it's harder to get swept away in its fantasy world if you're older but the moral of it beautiful so I recommend it to everyone.

message 242: by Kam (new)

Kam Caralyn wrote: "Twilight is waayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Harry Potter, Christina. And I read both."

harry potter is about nobility and courage and honor, and twilight is about how important it is for one suicidal bitch of a girl to get her gay sparkly boyfriend. Hurray!

message 243: by Kam (new)

Kam Dani wrote: "Caralyn wrote: "Twilight is waayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than Harry Potter, Christina. And I read both."

totally agree.

message 244: by Kam (new)

Kam Carol wrote: "OMG am I the only adult who hates Harry Potter? As someone who also had to teach it I can say it has no merit whatsoever."

oh, and twilight does? it has even less. the only reason people like it because a) its popular and b)it has romance
