Hi John! The one in Tacoma is the Washington State History Museum. I'm glad you love it--I do too! MOHAI is on Lake Union in Seattle (moved there a few years ago from the Montlake area because of highway construction--State Route 520). MOHAI's new home is the former Naval Reserve Armory Building, a marvellous space for their treasures and a terrific revitalization of the building, which has been vacant most of the time I've lived in Seattle.

I volunteer at MOHAI's Resource Center--library, archives, storage, workspace and a few historical societies--which is in Georgetown, in the southern end of Seattle.

Hello everyone,
I'm really happy I found this group! I'm from USA; I have a masters' degree in teaching and I'm a second grade teacher, but my bachelor's degree was in English and history. I love all history about any place and time period, but mostly my love for learning really connects to my love for travel--I've traveled through many different countries in Central and South America, Asia, and Europe, and I always love to study up on the history of the places I visit so that I can get a better sense of the story of a place. I'm currently planning for a trip to the US East Coast this summer (I've never been!) and will be spending a lot of time in New York City, so I'm reading by Edward Burrows to help me better understand its history. I joined this group because I love to connect with other people who love learning about and reading about history. Thanks for the opportunity to introduce myself!

My Dad was a history teacher and Mom was an english/reading teacher. They instilled a love of learning and reading. I want to learn more history. I read a great many audiobooks and recently read, The Killing Angels, by Michael Shaara. It was wonderful depiction of the Civil War. Also, I listened to Scorpions about the many Supreme Court justices around the time of FDR and WWII. Fascinating. I'm looking forward to everyone's recommendations. Thanks.

I am Peter from the Netherlands, they used to tell me me "history learns that perople do not learn from hisotry". I certainly do not agree with this because this learning from history is what makes the world develop. I like biographies of perople I do not understan (Napoleon, Stalin, Hitler, Mao) and of people I admire (Washington, Hoover ) or am curious about ( quite some otther US presidents whose libraries I visited). What is history? Is it a matter of expanding, receding boundaries, countless killings, emperors and kings hoisted and then tossed aside, scientific, technological and economical progress?
To me, history is a perpetual conflict of class. Those who are not written about are more important to me than those who hog headlines. But for subjugation of masses, the powers would nowhere be near where they are now. Masses must rise and write their own history, the well-being of majority rather than some smug tale of a few.

Hi! I'm a native Californian. Having grown up in a place with a relatively short history, I've been fascinated with history most of my life — and have been a fan of historical fiction for years. I grew up in a house full of Japan (because my dad had been stationed there in the US Air Force), and so have always been particularly fascinated with that nation.

My name is Kelly and grew up in the historic Saratoga Springs area of upstate New York.

I have a MALS degree in film studies and screenwriting, for which I received the Foner Fellowship for social justice and the arts. I've researched the Army of the Potomac during the Civil War, World War II (European theater) and the rise of the film industry in the United States, along with socio-political implications. I have also studied a bit of myth and theology. My current study is the FBI, Mob and Spies during World War II. The next area of research will be the East India Company.

I'm a photographer, dog mom and blogger.

I'm Martha from the Chicago area, French major turned into computer programmer. I'm always looking for a great overview to explain the history of a country or idea. I started with some random books about England (I figured there had to be more to their history than Henry the VIII chopping off heads), got lucky with podcasts by Lars Brownworth and Mike Duncan to help me get started with Byzantium and ancient Rome, and have since been trying to fill in my knowledge of European / Asian history. Someday I'll get to Africa.

If anyone has recommendations for a layman's guide to the Hanseatic League, the Hapsburgs, or Bulgaria, pm me your recommendations. In the meantime, I'm always browsing! Thanks!
