Joseph Rose | 1 comments Hello, all:

I'm Joseph Rose, a lifelong reader, originally from Upstate New York. I grew up reading the World Book Encyclopedia, my father's collection of military histories, the New Yorker's comics, and two newspapers a day. My undergrad degree was in the economically worthless discipline of geography, and a masters in industrial and labor relations wasn't all that much better.

For the past twelve years, however, I've been on a diet of nothing but the Civil War with one exception for rereading Pride and Prejudice.

What a nice introduction, Joseph. We welcome you to The History Book Club. We have a variety of folders which may interest you.

Based upon your post - here is one that you may want to look at:

American Civil War

There are many other folders where you can discuss topics that interest you.

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box). It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen by Jane Austen Jane Austen

Jennie (historybookreviews) | 1 comments Hi Everyone,

My name is Jennie, and I live in Boulder, CO. I earned my masters degree in Medieval Archaeology at the University of York and have spent the last few years working at various archaeological jobs, and my greatest passion is reading and learning about history.

My friends always made fun of me growing up because I loved school and got excited about new reading assignments. And recently, for fun, I even started my own website where I post reviews about new history books that I've read, except, unlike school, I try to make them funny :)

I'm always looking for new book recommendations and was thrilled when I stumbled across this group. I really look forward to becoming part of this community!

My name is Jennifer and I am an erstwhile medievalist who is currently engaged in researching and writing about the Cold War. However, I find any inquiry into the past fascinating and so look forward to reading about works with which I am unfamiliar and hearing from others what they think.

Best regards,
Jennifer

Elliot Jackson | 1 comments Greetings...

My earliest history passions tended to mirror my father's, whose special field of study was British military history of the 18th-19th centuries, with an emphasis on the Napoleonic Wars. This remains an area of enduring fascination for me. Later areas of passion/obsession, influenced by degrees in drama and theater history, include 19th-20th century German history, especially the Weimar Republic/Third Reich/Cold War eras; British history of the Revolution/Restoration/Georgian periods, and now, currently, ANYTHING I can lay my paws on concerning the French Revolution.

Regards,

Elliot

I've loved history since I was a little child and I just can't get enough of history books! It's nice being in a group with my same interests. I read overall books about the first half of XX century, mostly about WWII (both military sages and civilian biography... Everything actually!), but I'm interested in every historic period: Roman age, Middle age, Industrial Revolution... Everything is just so fascinating!
I hope I can get to know new books, maybe even on arguments that are far from my European formation, and to discuss them with all of you!
