Honestly, it isn't really even UF like they advertised either. It's probably best described as post-apocalyptic sci-fi. Genetically-modified humans.

I really didn't like it at all. It may be because it wasn't at all what I was expecting.

As far as what category it would fit into, um.... a human with super strength. That's all I can think of. Sorry. :(

Oops yes I do. I watched Blood Ties and loved it. So I thought why not check out the books too?

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Does anyone have a recommendation for a good god/goddess book? I just finished all the Cassie Palmer books by Karen Chance, so those won't work, and I will not read another Dark Hunter book. That series is not for me.
Any other ideas?

message 62: by Lenore (new)

Lenore (lenorenrr) | 528 comments You can try Gena Showalter's Lord of the Underworld series. There is 3 so far with the fourth out in June. The first "The Darkest Night" is about Maddox. He is a former immortal guardian who has been exiled by the gods for opening Pandora's Box. I really enjoyed them.

message 63: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I like Alyssa Days Atlantis books. Technically they aren't gods, but they are immortals "working" for the gods to protect humans from vamps and werewolves. They are mushy soul mate romances with a bit of action and a lot of recurring characters. There's a major plot theme crossing the series too, so I've been sucked in.

message 64: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey There's the goddess series by P.C. Cast, I recommend Goddess of Love. These books don't have to be read in order. :)

Sandy | 449 comments Hi,
I'm new to this group and the challenge sounds interesting although I'm not sure I'll be able to finish all 9 boos - I think my boss would like me to show up for work. Do all of the books have to be PNR? I think I have enough books in my too read piles to fit all of the categories but they aren't all romance.

Hi, Sandy. Well, trying is half as fun.

The books don't necessarily have to be romance, as long, as they have that paranormal element required, its fine by me.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) Thanks for all the great suggestions, guys! I've read the first two LotU books. I'd forgotten about the gods in those. I could totally pick the third book for this challenge. Thanks, Lenore!

message 69: by Lenore (new)

Lenore (lenorenrr) | 528 comments No problem. The third was my favorite anyway. I hope you enjoy your book and finish your challenge!

message 70: by Clerah (new)

Clerah Whew, I finally found a list of books that I think will work for this challenge. I think all my choices work for each category except maybe for the god/goddesses/immortal's category. I struggled with finding a book for that category, so I might end up swapping it out. I'll have to see what other people come up with. Anyhow here's my list

Dina, I'm trying to use only books that I already have, and I don't even have Branded by Fire on pre-order. I've been trying to follow your example about reading down my TBR, and that Deborah Cooke book has been on my shelf for ages. But who knows what changes I'll make before July ends!

Gail | 110 comments Dina, I've got Nalini's book on my list for the shifter book. Of course, you probably already know what I'm going to say about it...Wonderful!! (I haven't read it yet, but her books always are...)

1. vampire: Dead and Gone by Charlaine Harris
2. werewolf: Marked by Moonlight by Sharie Kohler
3. shifter: Branded by Fire by Nalini Singh
4. gods/immortals: Atlantis Unleashed by Alyssa Day
5. demons: Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione
6. witches: My forbidden desire by Carolyn Jewel
7. fae: Deadly Redemption by Kathleen Korbel
8. aliens: Ender in Exile or Downbelow Station
9. psychics:

Are there any psychics in the Harry Dresden books? My son started reading them, and has bought a bunch of them recently. I could pick up one of those. I also have a few books I bought/was given at my RWA chapter meeting. One of them might have a psychic in it, or human with extra abilities. I'll keep looking. OR--I have an Eve Kenin, HIDDEN, that I think has genetically enhanced humans. I could put that one on the list...

It's going to be hard not to start before July gets here. I'm going to ApolloCon this weekend and may be tempted... I'll have to pick up books by people there, maybe.
Dead and Gone (Sookie Stackhouse, #9) by Charlaine Harris Marked by Moonlight (Moon Chasers, Book 1) by Sharie Kohler Branded by Fire (Psy-Changelings, #6) by Nalini Singh Atlantis Unleashed (Warriors of Poseidon, Book #5) by Alyssa Day [image error] [image error] Deadly Redemption (Silhouette Nocturne) by Kathleen Korbel Ender in Exile (Ender) by Orson Scott Card [image error]

Harry has a little of everything--want gods/demons/psychics/wizards/fallen angels/vampires/werewolves/fae??? at least 1 book has some if not all of the above.

I have to admit, I LOVE Toot Toot, the Wee Fae who heads up "The 'Za Lord's Guard" (for those who haven't read Harry--Za is pizza, and the wee fae all seem to be serious pizza addicts) And of course, Harry is the 'Za Lord. :o) He bribes the Wee Fae to help him with choice pizzas.

I was having trouble with this one too. Have you looked into to Mona Lisa Series by by Sunny? Or The Host by Stephanie Meyer? I think that either one of those may account for the aliens. As for the angels/ demons, check out Marjorie M. Liu's Hunters Kiss series or Larissa Ione's Demonica series. I haven't read either one yet, but they have decent ratings. Hope this helps.

Knight's Parallel Attraction is definitely about aliens. Btw, that is a marvelous series. Well crafted writing, complex plot and just great characters. I was taken by surprise by how much I like the books in this series.

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) For space, I've narrowed my options down to Gabriel's Ghost by Linnea Sinclair or Grimspace by Ann Aguirre.

Larissa Ione's Demonica series is good for demons. I also have to take the opportunity to plug my favorite series dealing with demons, Jenna Black's Morgan Kingsley series. Stars with The Devil Inside. Really great urban fantasy series. Book 4 comes out in July and I'm soooo excited.

Melissa If you're going to read The Iron Hunt by Marjorie M. Liu for the demon book, I highly recommend reading the short story in Wild Thing. I loved Iron Hunt, but the short story really makes the book so much better. I keep checking my book store for the second book due out next Tuesday. Sometimes they show up on the shelf early. I'm hooked for sure!

another good demon one (or actually 2) would be either Kiss and Hell or maybe The Accidental Demon Slayer Altho the Accidental could also be shapeshifters. (Griffon who changes into human)

Nichole (DirrtyH) (dirtyh) A Rush of Wings would fit vampire, or angels... and I think that's all.

The short story tells how Maxine meets Grant and it explains A LOT more about the "world" they live in. I love the way Liu writes this series. It's so original yet understandable. Just reading the cover when I bought Iron Hunt, I was kind of worried that it would all be too complicated, but not at all. It's kind of like, less is more. I don't know how to explain it, but it's good writing.

Noz--audiobooks also count. But I find that those take longer to get through than actually reading the book myself. And heaven help you if the reader is horrible. I was listening to Naomi Novik's Black Powder War and the reader for that STUNK. So I quit listening and went to the library and checked it out. The reading WAS interesting enough for me to want to check into it, and I decided to not let the horrible reader put me off.
