I'm alive... I swear. I've been dealing with some drama. That friend of mine that was supposed to be getting married in September that Ann in VA mentioned? Well her fiancee up and stops talking/texting/emailing her on Wednesday and then she calls his work on Friday because he won't answer her and so he sends her a text message that says: Don't send out the invites. I'm busy. I'll call later. Then he cleared out the bank account their wedding money was in. And proceeded to NOT call until Monday night after being ordered to by his Master Sgt.
No kidding. SO needless to say that my last week? Crazy. This is on top of my husband having been in a hit and run the first week of the month(he's fine but his car is being repaired and I'm stressed trying to figure out what to do to make ends meet because of that lovely lovely expense).
So my reading? Yeah not happening. However I am proud of myself for not driving to Cherry Point and going Moron Hunting. Sad thing is that after reporting his dishonorable actions towards her and her children and family as well as finding out they suspected the same thing my friend did... that he was repeatedly lying to get out of work... it looks like the marines aren't going to do anything but dump a bunch of money on him and medically retire him. My personal opinion is dishonourable discharge and he needs to pay my friend some money back for the thousands of dollars she spent in wedding prep for a wedding he didn't even have the decency to call off in any way other than a TEXT message.
I gotta say, I love the new technology but to break off a marriage two months before the wedding in a TEXT???????? That's low. Makes me wish I could gather up all the characters from the books we are reading and just sic them on this guy. LOL I just read about a demon hunting soccor mom. I bet that guy is possessed by a demon.
OK, so seriously, rant off. I swear.
Here's my books for July... I'll figure out where to put them later after I figure out just where what should go... LOL

So I finished A Hunger Like No Other around 1:00 this morning. OMG, I'm so happy I joined this group, for several reasons one of which it has introduced me to to new authors. And another reason is, participating in challenges like this one, has provided the necessary kick in the behind to step out of my comfort zone and old stand bys and try something new.
Kresely Cole has quickly become a must read for me, after getting over the initial Scottish brogue (which I fell in love with after getting to know Lachlain) and I can't wait to start the next book!

Good for you! People amaze me. The kinds of things you think only happen in the movies or on soap operas... I'm continually surprised by the things people do.

I'm really falling in love with the Mercy Thompson series. I read Moon Called all over again before i started Blood Bound even though i read it for the June Challenge. This is fast becoming my favourite series.

I completely agree. I read Heart Of The Dragon and I couldn't believe how horrible it was. Probably one of the worst romances I've ever read. And you're right about the worlds she creates - they're wonderful but it's just like everything else falls flat inside them. So much potential wasted!

1. vampires -
2. werewolves - The Darkest Kiss, Keri Arthur - done, 07/05/2009

Actually, the Circle trilogy, which I started with Morrigan's Cross can cover a few of these categories. Can I do that?

Nichole: Tell me about it. I mean I've heard about it...I thought that is the sort of thing to happen in a movie but no one would be that lame in real life. No way. But apparently not only do people do it, I KNOW people who do it. My goodness.
And people wonder why I read "brain candy" as they pretty much lump all scifi/fantasy into. You know what? I do NOT want to read about people being losers and sending their fiancee a text message to break off a 5+ year relationship. That's real life and it is not only lame but it's depressing.
Give me ghosts and demons and witches and aliens thank you very much.
Ronelle--if you read them and they fit multiple categories--pick out the ones that you want to stick them in and run with it.
I went to the dentist today--I HATE going to dentist, it always hurts, hurts hurts.
However--I'm passing on a brand new series that I just read and loved. Its by D. D. Barant and called Dying Bites. LOVE the world premis, good writing (even for a first in a series book) and can't wait for the next one. Its a UF, not PNR, but still. . . Basically a profiler from our world gets pulled into a parallel one where there is no mental illness because--99% of the population is Para--vamps, weres and golems. And one of the few humans has gone nuts and is killing vamps and weres. Ssssoooooo. . .

Sure, you can put all three books in three different categories.
How did you like the Circle trilogy? The last one is my fave, and Cian is just wonderful.

I've finished Morrigan's Cross, which really whetted my appetite for the entire series, and I'm starting Dance of the Gods. I'm also sneaking a peek at Valley of Silence because I read in a review that that is Moira and Cian's story, and I'm such a sucker for romantic vampires...
How do I like the Circle Trilogy? I'm loving it, so much that I have borrowed both print and audio versions of all three from my library... you know, I listen to it in the car on my drive to and from work, then when when I'm home, I continue where I left off in the print version... Kinda obsessive, but what can I say? When I like something, I get a bit intense.

You ain't kidding. I'm still reeling. And it wasn't even happening to me! I tell you what though, my husband ever had the audacity to send me a text message like that? His butt would ..."

I really liked Poison Study by Maria Snyder. From the first page, I was hooked. There were a few moments while reading that I thought "this is so predictable" just to keep reading and see how far off I was, and I love it when that happens. The world building in this book is excellent. If any of you love rooting for the under dog, then I think you'll really like Yelena, the heroine. This book has all the elements, fantasy/magic, political intrigue, romance etc. I can't wait to get my hands on the sequel Magic Study.

Hey, I just had a question. This is my first challenge, and I've enjoyed it so much that I want to keep doing them. I am just wondering at what point during the current month is the theme for the next's month's challenge posted? I just happened to stumble upon this one somehow. I'm off today, and it's pay day, which usually means I'll end up at Borders and/or on Amazon for hours, (used books are great!). I've learned about so many great series and authors while doing this challenge like Nalini Singh's Psy/ Changeling series, and Melanie Nowak's Almost Human! I just thought I'd check before I went out and spent too much money.

My friend in literature, I’m not certain if it’s childbirth or imminent motherhood which has you terrified. I wanted to reassure you on both counts.
While experiencing labor, remember your doctor won’t allow anything dangerous happen to you or your baby. So, labor will never continue to a point where you and your baby physically can’t handle. Therefore, labor ends whether you naturally birth a baby or your doctor performs a cesarean. When you think you can’t continue, remember the birthing process will end.
If your fears stem from becoming a mother, the answer isn’t so easy. Children don’t come with a manual and you will make mistakes. On the positive note, fill the children with love and they should forgive you the mistakes. The journey is amazing. I’m only in my 8th year as a parent, of a 8 and 4 year old, and every day they’ve made me a better person.
I wish you the best.

Michelle,
I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed your first challenge.
I usually post the new challenge between the 20th-25th of the month, in order to give everyone the chance to plan their lists, and purchase, reserve or borrow their books.
I wish I can tell you now, but I'm still in the process of refining next month's challenge.
Postpone that book-buying spree yet..LOL..that is if you have the strength to resist temptation..LOL...I swear book stores just call to us readers, stronger than any siren's song..LOL

Come ON Yz--you know that resisting a book-buying spree calls for super human powers. Any of us that can actually DO that deserve canonization. (For non-Catholic's that means being named a saint.)
Angie--a manual for kids won't work--cause you'd have to have a new--and different--one for every single kid. Even identical twins aren't the same. I've been a Mum for 34 years now, and STILL feel like a beginner sometimes. Of course, now I'm in Motherhood 2.0 aka Grandmotherhood. :o) My "boys" are a delight, even when they are fighting and getting on my nerves. But that's the nice thing about grandkids, they get to that point and you can sent them home to Mum and Dad. LOL--isn't that right Oz??? (for our new members Lady Ozma is my daughter.)

Liked Street Magic. Interested in others take on this. I have heard yuc, and wow, best book ever. I was not on either extreme on this one. Do like Jack and Pete though.
Street Magic is actually going to go down as one of my quirky favorite new series reads. I love Caitlin Kittredge and her Nocturne City series but actually think that am going to like "The Black" series better, it is gritty and raw and very colorful... The funny part is bought the book from Barnes and Nobles and have had it couple weeks and started reading yesterday afternoon and am almost finished and cannot wait for the next one to come out now that have new characters to keep up with. I would recommend it to others and some may like it and some may not depending on what they normally read on any given day... I like the wierd bump in the night stuff and love to read about paranormal creatures and magic is fascinating stuff to me....
