Blaze | 1 comments Hi everyone!
I'm Blaze and I live in Sweden. My interest in history I think started when I read some Asterix comics at a young age and started wondering: "Who are these Romans? There armour looks really cool... And what about that Caesar?" Safe to say, I have been hooked ever since.

Ancient Rome and ancient Greece is what captivates me the most, but basically I like most things historical. Sharing ideas and getting new input is one of the reasons I wanted to join this group and I'm looking forward to be a part of the community!!

Dipesh Risal (dipeshrisal) | 1 comments Hello All,

Very happy to see that this group exists. I have had a live-long interest is fiction, which has morphed into a focused love of historic fiction. I really enjoy investigative works that start out with what could be called the "facts" of history, and add in the missing bits in terms of what is going on inside the heads of the known and unknown characters that shared a brief moment on the stage before yielding to the next generation.

I enjoy historic fiction from all over the world, but have a special love for those works where the theater is South Asia.

Looking forward to a lot of reading and conversations!

Dipesh

Samanta (almacubana) Hello, Dipesh. Welcome to the History book club!

You are definitely at the right place because you will find many history as well as historical fiction buffs in this group.

Based on your introduction, I recommend you to check out our thread on Historical fiction, which you can access through this link:

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

Ted (tedloukes) | 1 comments Hi,
my name is Ted, from Johannesburg in South Africa. In my spare time I am an independent researcher in the field of ancient civilisations. Born in the sixties, I have been on a voyage of dscovery for over forty years, questioning man's origins by digging through ancient texts, inscriptions, myths and legends. My particular fascination is with Ancient Egypt which began in 1972 with a visit to the Treasures of Tutankhamun exhibition, held at the British Museum. I am currently learning to read hieroglyphic. My book preferences are wide - it all depends on how I feel.

message 612: by Lia (new)

Lia Hi,

Thank you for the mod-mail and clear instruction. I really appreciate the efforts you put into maintaining the community.

I'm somewhat new to Goodreads, but not to reading :-) History-specific book is something I haven't read a lot, though when I read classical literature (or critical theories), one of my main interest is still to discover how people used to live, what did they used to believe, what were their attitude, what was and what wasn't acceptable, what sort of community and social dynamic was there, and how we got to now. I'm also interested in understanding how historians decide what is legitimate history, what's worth including, what is shoddy speculation or biased opinion piece, etc.

Like I said, I don't read a lot of history books, *yet.* I'm hoping this group will help me discover more books in that genre.

Frank Hi everybody,
I'm Luuk, based in Amsterdam. I'm currently reading McCormick's Origins of the European Economy, about 8th and 9th century Europe. I plan to read Bartlett's The making of europe (950-1350). Previously i've been reading about the ancient middle-east, classical Greece and Rome, Peter Brown's late antiquity and the islamic regions up to circa 1500. A long time ago i was obsessed with 18th and 19th century Europe.
I joined this group for education and enjoyment :)
Best wishes,

Steven (politicoprof) | 1 comments Hello!

I am Steven A. Seidman, living on the coast of Maine. I was born in New York City, grew up there, and taught elementary school there in the 1960s and 1970s. I then taught college and university students for more than thirty years at Indiana University, Texas Woman's University, and Ithaca College. At present, I am semi-retired, but teach an online course on political campaign imagery for Ithaca College, with much on political history worldwide.

I earned my bachelor's degree in history from the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and two master's degrees—one from the University of Pennsylvania in American civilization and another from Indiana University, Bloomington in instructional systems technology—as well as a Ph.D. in the latter field from IU.

I love books on political history, but also enjoy books on Celtic history (particularly about Scotland and Ireland), and the American Civil War and Revolution, as well as biographies of American political leaders.

SailorWets22 | 1 comments Hi, my name is Dave and im a 4th grade teacher. I've always loved reading, and since i was young I've been fascinated by history, which I read almost exclusively. For years I was strictly a WWII reader, but now have been obsessed with the Revolution and Im considering the civil war as well. Recently I've been interested in biographies, which truth be told was never an interest of mine until now. Aside from American history I love mythology and Greek and roman history. My goal on goodreads is to catalog what I've read only since joining the community, as I enjoy organizing the shelves on the app as much as I do in my home. Im looking forward to this group and meeting people with similar interests.

I enjoy a variety of topics in history - but military history (Second World War) and Civil War history are my greatest passions. Reading multiple books on WW II as a teen led to an interest in military service and influenced my decision to enter the Air Force after graduating college. I served over 21 years in the USAF from Desert Storm to the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Retired from AF several years ago - but still enjoy history!

Samanta (almacubana) Hello, Brooke. Welcome to the History book club!

Based on your introduction, I suggest you check out our homepage and see if you find anything of interest. You can access it through this link:

HBC mainpage

Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.

When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.

This is how books that you mention should look:

In the Heart of the Sea The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex by Nathaniel Philbrick by Nathaniel Philbrick Nathaniel Philbrick

If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask us moderators. I look forward to your postings.

Stephanie R. Sorensen (stephanier_sorensen) | 1 comments Hello fellow history lovers!

I live in the mountains of Colorado, so reading historical novels is a fine activity when it is 10 degrees below zero and snowing. I read many things, but love both historical fiction and straight history, throughout all times and places. I look forward to getting to know you and your favorite books.

Stephanie

Dave Lilley (davelille) | 1 comments Hello

I’m Dave, I work and live around Windsor. It suddenly occurred to me that the books I read on historic themes, far outweigh those of other subjects. I am currently rattling through Schama’s History of Britain as well as flirting with the War of the Roses and random bits of London’s history. All of which brought me indirectly to here…
