From the UK and in my late teens.
My interests include the Napoleonic era, First and Second World Wars and Victorian Britain as well as the Romans and Classical Greece.
Its great to see such an active group. I'm sure it will inspire my reading even further!

I love prehistory, Ancient Egypt, the Minoan civilization (any ancient civilization, really), Victorian Britain, WWI, WWII, and Canadian history. There are probably other things I'm forgetting but those come to mind.
I just wanted to join an active group and see what kind of books other people who like history are reading.

We are equally happy that you discovered Goodreads as well as HBC. I do hope you will find what you look for here and stay with us as long as possible.
We have a lot of different topics here on HBC so check out our homepage and see what we offer. You can access the main page through this link:

Based on your introduction, I recommend you to check out these threads:
British history,
First World War
and
Second World War
Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with the "add book/author" feature when you comment. (There is a link on the top right of the comment box.) It makes things so much easier for people to see your book recommendations, because they can see the cover and the links to the author. And it helps the Goodreads software connect books with groups that talk about them.
When citing a book and/or author, please put the book cover, author's photo and author's link at the very bottom of the post after your text. Because it is on the bottom, it calls the reader's attention to the book/author and increases the readability of your posts.
This is how books that you mention should look:

Welcome to new members Jamie, Mark, Stephanie, Cindy and Louis. We're really glad you joined us.

My name is Rose. I have a keen interest in historical non-fiction, in particular (but not limited to) British History in the Medieval and Renaissance eras (including an emphasis on historical warfare), Western Classical Music History, Western medicine and also some WWII-era reads.
History has always been fascinating to me. The accounts of each era representing one chapter in mankind's awe-inspiring Autobiography. In knowing who fought before us and how those battles, plagues and revolts shaped us and our own unique migration patterns, in my opinion, helps us to better understand who we are today, what shaped our core beliefs, how we've advanced..and just how much has remained the same.
Greetings from Canada.

What a nice introduction, Rose. We welcome you to The History Book Club. We have a variety of folders which may interest you.

I noticed in addition to the interests you mention in your post, you also have an interest in fashion formulas of years past.
There are two books you may want to peruse if you haven't already, the first of which is

which covers the 'discovery', trade, political strife and corruption over the quest to procure and control the supply of "the perfect red" dye, derived from Cochineal.
The second book I'd recommend is the classic

which you may find interesting especially if you are interested in daily life in the Medieval period. This classic wealth-of-information book covers everything from customs, dress, trade, laws, to cooking and pastimes. A fascinating read.
Edith wrote: "Hi I'm really into books between 1066 and 1600. I am especially interested in old skills. Formula's for paint, glue, and other useful items. I own a wide range of books of this time period. Int..."

Rose, when mentioning books and authors, don't forget the citations. The books you mentioned should look like this.

as shown in my original post, as it has an informative introduction and is a facsimile of the original book).
Post has now been updated with author image intact, I appreciate the reminder!

I am graduated in electrical engineering, besides science books I love reading history, fiction, autobiography, memoir too. Now I'm seeking books of the cold war period between Soviet and USA. This is all for now.
Happy reading.

I am 26 and I am interested above all in the history of Europe and the middle east, since I have studied arabic studies.
I am also interested in extreme orient history, because I have never read enough about it.
As for Europe I like reading about history of France or u.k. (with Australia, South Africa, usa and india).
I am happy to have found this group and I hope to learn more and more!

Welcome to the group, Zach, Arnab, Francesca and Kitten. Be sure to check out our 50 BOOKS IN 2015 section. You can get a lot of recommendations from other members on good books.

I am Spicedmama. I have an interest in American History, particularly southern (but not necessarily Civil War related). Your group seems quite active, and I was surprised to receive this type of welcome where rather than reading and moving along, I have to respond to the request of why I am interested in being a part of the group. I love genealogy and in loving it I have grown to really love history and historical topics. I am looking forward to seeing where this group leads me with respect to materials that are within my interests.
Best!

You are definitely at the right place because you will find many history as well as historical fiction buffs in this group. I too enjoy Mika Waltari's books immensely, particulary Sinuhe the Egyptian and The secret of the kingdom.
