Hello, I’m new here! My name is Julie. I live in and grew up in the US, and just enjoy reading about other cultures and their history. I also love reading about politics, and often that comes into play in books about history. I’m currently most interested in learning more about the history of Asia. I work at the US office of a Korean company, and most of my coworkers and people I connect with are from or live in (South) Korea and China. As we talk about growing up, news of the day, etc. I realize I am grossly unfamiliar with the history of that region, and would love to get a better understanding.

Hello, my name is Mohammad, I am from Syria. Although that I am a medical doctor, history is one of my favorite subjects because it tells our story, the humankind story which is with no doubt an epic one. I personally prefer four aspects of history, the first is science history because science is somehow the language of the natural world, and those who understand it will discern the mysteries of the universe; thus, the history of science help us understand the image of the universe the past generations had in there minds. The second aspect is the history of pre-history! I love reading about this era because it is a story written by the pioneers, our ancestors. The third one is the WWII, it is definitely a blink of an eye compared to the entire human history but it shaped our modern world. The last one is the history of religions. Religion (including all of its form, atheism, agnosticism etc) was and is in the core of most of the historical events.

Hello. I'm Thorkell from Iceland but live in Norway. I have been a member for some months now but not participated much. I'm a theologian (agnostic) a writer, a photographer and a film maker.

My interests are all over the place but mostly politics. I have been going through a lot of books about the history of USSR these last months and before that I was focusing on history of freedom of speech, black history, places and times when different cultures come together and how that changed history and so on.

I'm a huge fan of T.E. Lawrence and have read a lot of books about him and related to his life and battles.

If anyone has a good suggestion for a book on Trotsky then I would very much welcome that.
