I REALLY REALLY LOVED Six of Crows and the Martian!! I like the Shadow and Bone series, it held my interest at least. Had some issues, but still enjoyable :)

Harlee | 1583 comments @Elora and Jenny I liked the Shadow and Bone series a lot but I LOVED Six of Crows!

message 1458: by Elora (new)

Elora Mitchell | 449 comments Yeah Harlee--in my reread, I'm still not loving the Shadow and Bone series. It's alright....but Six of Crows blew me away! I think I finally figured out why.....all the characters in SOC are unique, well-developed characters. Not so much in her first series. Nikolai and the twins are the only interesting characters to me. Mal seems really to be a placeholder/way for Alina to have extra angst. And Alina herself, while she has a dark side, seems to be more of a special snowflake type.

I just couldn't get into the Shadow and Bones series. I never read the last book. But I loved loved loved Six of Crows (Six of Crows, #1) by Leigh Bardugo ! I'm super excited for Crooked Kingdom (Six of Crows, #2) by Leigh Bardugo

The last book in Shadow and Bone was the best in the series IMO. I think, as a writer, Leigh Bardugo gets better with every book. Nikolai was my fave character in that series, he was the most interesting.

Harlee | 1583 comments @Elora I TOTALLY agree with you about the Six of Crows characters being so unique. The first time I read Shadow and Bone I loved it but I reread it to continue the series and didn't love it like the first time and Siege and Storm also fell a bit flat for me. Ruin and Rising was satisfying but also had it's issues.

Heather (hersecretsmile) | 290 comments I finished It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover last night and I honestly don't know if a book has ever made me as emotional as this one did.

Yesterday I finished The Mermaid's Sister by Carrie Anne Noble and I really liked it. Felt almost like a fairy tale with mythical creatures!

Also read a quick short story, The First Star to Fall (For Darkness Shows the Stars, #1.5) by Diana Peterfreund which I really loved. Great backstory on the "Wild Poppy!"

Today I finished reading The Secret of the Old Clock (Nancy Drew, #1) by Carolyn Keene 3.5 stars
My first time reading Nancy Drew in years! I didn't read too many of the classics when I was kid, but I did like this one! It got better as the story went along. I do love how "modern" Nancy really was, this was published in 1930! She even has to change her car tire at one point in this story, and she does it without much fuss! LOVE!

I finished Ghostly Echoes (Jackaby, #3) by William Ritter and liked it! Probably not quite as much as the first two, which were funnier but with less depth, but still, a good read. The end bits reminded me a little of how Percy Jackson books feel.

Now I'm onto another library book I just got at the recommendation of Karen. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch A third of the way through and I'm HOOKED.
