Ella | 367 comments A question... for the bonus books, does one person only get one bonus book read per task? or can we read say 2-3 books as a bonus for the same block. (eg after the 2 compulsory books are read for b1-romance- can i read 2 books and use it as 2/8 bonus books?)

Each person can only put one book towards each square/task. But luckily we have lots of squares, and some repeat tasks, too. :)

Pragya, just to be clear - are you going to be away from the computer completely in that time, or will you still be able to mark books complete? And the Olympics starts near the beginning of July, I think - will you be able to check in and see what the events are? It sounds like you're missing an entire week of that, which I think would be an entire event. :/

eta: Also, note that books started before July 2nd won't count towards the Olympic tasks, it's a whole separate game.

message 565: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) Don't worry, I will have a computer and my kindle, so I'll be able to read/mark books as read and see the events:), I'm just not going to be able to check in all the time. Ehh, I don't know, I'll figure it out.

Kazen Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning
Darkfever by Karen Marie Moning
382 pages
Categories - sci-fi, romance, mystery, horror, paranormal, ya, fantasy, chick-lit, contemporary, historical (I didn't believe it fit all those, either)

Thanks to everyone who recommended this - it got my out of my reading slump but isn't really for me. I didn't love it as much as other urban fantasy series I've read so it always felt a bit weak, and then there's that cliffhanger at the end, grah! I'm not sad I read it, but I'll leave all the sequels to you guys. ;)

message 570: by Kazen (new)

Kazen Hey guys - we had another great round of Battleship today! We had 12, count 'em, TWELVE hits. "Impossible!" you say. "But we only had 10 guesses!"

Yes, but every time you sink a ship you get an extra guess. We sank six ships, y'all. SIX. That's a whole lot of awesome.

...it also means we have a whole lot of books to read if we want to lock in all those points. As things stand we'll need 28 books to fill the remaining primary tasks. We have eight books banked, so that means we have 20+ to read before the end of the week (Friday-ish).

Twenty books sounds like a lot, but if we work together we can do it. There's 15 of us so that's a book a person, with a few of the faster people reading two. All the genres are at the top of the page in the goal post, but a couple stick out:

New - humor, classics
+4 slots - science fiction, fantasy, classics, contemporary

With all these hits we have a great chance to earn a lot of points - let's not let it go to waste! Read! Read like the wind! :D

message 571: by prag ♻ (new)

prag ♻ (janayanation) I'll definitely read two, but I'm gonna aim for 3. Bonus points, here I come:)

Ella | 367 comments woohoo!! awesome Kazen!! And we have another fantasy slot that has my name written all over it because I just ran out of genres that my next book would fit into. :) :) I'll read my last 2 books in the series which will fit fantasy and humor. YAY!

I also finished My Savior (Bewitched and Bewildered #4) by Alanea Alder
My Savior by Alanea Alder

220 pages
Romance- A1

message 574: by Lory (new)

Lory | 629 comments I plan on finishing one book soon (hopefully tonight). This will be a non-fiction book. Hopefully that fits a primary task! It also has 13 people shelving it as a humor book...so YAY!

I am also planning on getting DarkFever to read this week as well, which as everyone knows fits a lot of categories. I don't think I'll be able to finish a third, but I can check in and see how everyone is doing and what slots need to be filled :)

I'm still really excited about this...it is definitely motivating to read a lot.

Thanks! :) I'm going to start reading the thread at the beginning & all the way through so I get caught up.

I finished a book today. Not sure where to post it yet, so I'll put it here:
Book: Rules by Cynthia Lord
Rules
Author: Cynthia Lord
Pages: 208
Date: 27Jun
ID: 222458
Genres: humor (11), contemporary (64), ya (332)

Also, I'm currently reading: Doctor Who: The Monsters Inside, which is good for sci-fi and fantasy. :) :)

My shelf for wobble is here. I have a wobble reading shelf for books in progress, and a wobble to read shelf for mostly quick, qualifying books (I checked word count).

This is the perfect place to post it :) More info on the first page of the thread (which I'm sure you're devouring already, hehe).

Just a note so you're aware - a large chunk of this team is from Australia and Asia, with other members in US time zones. So if I or someone else seems suspiciously quiet it's probably because we're sleeping. ;)

eta: And way to be organized with your shelves!

:) Thanks! I saw that you're in Japan so figured we might be all spread out. I'm in California (UTC -8:00) but I'm usually up pretty late (midnight, 1, 2am). So it's 8:30am for you, Kazen, and 4:30pm for me (on Monday). Timezones have always been weirdly interesting to me. Anyway.. back to my thread reading! :)

And hi everyone else!!

Margaret | 456 comments Hi Ray! Welcome to the Red Pandas! You have joined at an exciting time - with less than 4 days left of the Battleship challenge, and 27 open spots - we need all the extra readers we can get :)

Team - I can realistically only finish one book before Battleship ends (unless I call in sick at work for the rest of the week - very tempting let me tell you!!)

I am about 50% of the way through To Tame A Highland Warrior (Highlander #2) by Karen Marie Moning which will fit the tasks for Historical, Romance, Fantasy, Science Fiction.

Kate ★ (spillsandspoils) | 83 comments Hi Ray! Welcome to the team! We're glad to have you!

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Thanks for the nice welcome everyone! :) I just read through all 13 pages of this thread and it was quite a rollercoaster! Good news (congrats Kate!) and sad news (condolences to Tammie and Brianna) and a whole lot of reading recommendations. Whew!

For a little more info on me, I love love love sci-fi! Also read a lot of non-fiction, horror, ya, contemporary, mystery, humor, graphic novels. I like some paranormal, but it seems not as much as others do. Not really a fan of fantasy, war, history, romance (though the authors seem to slip this in everywhere).

So, yeah, I'm the weirdo that loves sci-fi but not fantasy. It's a hard line to draw, separating those two. When there are unpronounceable names and words, it's fantasy. ;) ;)

General stuff about me: This is my first team challenge here in NRBC. I play the Novel Role Playing Game here though and love it. I live with my partner, a full-time housemate, and 2 part-time housemates in a big 112 year old Victorian and can see the ocean from my windows (on a clear day). My town is very near Santa Cruz. If I could have a superpower, it would be healing -- myself and others -- because I have Fibromyalgia Syndrome and it sucks. I read almost exclusively on my laptop or iPod because holding books is unsustainable for me. I like to play board games, watch movies, cook, play D&D (Monday night usually), do papercrafts, knit, sew, and of course read. :D

394 pages (just missed the 400 mark!)

Works for non-fiction and humor.

Now the dilemma, I gave darkfever which works for a lot. But also another that works for contemporary, historical fiction, and mystery. Its also 600+pages, so more points!

I'll try for both....read read read!
