Thanx Ray :) I added it to my post so it will be easier to see whats there and add to it. I'm keeping both so if books can be added to either ones we'll have a 5 or a 7

Sorry I'm getting repetitive. I'm going to edit this post with what I think are the three most promising chains, hopefully for Heat 1.

Okay, I have a very preliminary list of chains in the spreadsheet on the O - E1 Planning tab. (Olympics - Event 1 Planning, natch :)

Pro: only four people don't have a book in the lists (Sam, Riah, Lory, and Sydney). Con: Karin has said she can do one book for Heat One and we have her listed for two. I'll be putting the rest of your book options in the sheet now so hopefully some solutions will make themselves clear.

What are the chains so far? I'm not sure where those are located...

Go to the spreadsheet, then click on the O - E1 planning tab. Those are the chains I'm tentatively putting in to see how things land. Other chain starts are hiding out in this thread - Ray is collecting some. Others no longer work because a book or two has been commandeered for other chains. It's very fluid at the moment, but look to the spreadsheet for a solid start.

I must be missing something. when I click on the link I just see the list of books. Not anything linked together. I wanted to try to help, because after reading like crazy last week, it feels weird not to have a book on the cusp to read!

Well, haven't heard from Sydney and her profile is private. Riah popped in but hasn't listed books yet so I grabbed the 100-250 page books from her TBR list and got a 3-chain:

If someone likes reading category romances with baby storylines there are a bunch with titles like "Baby Makes Three", "Daddy Makes Three", and so on. (I would offer, but I can't stand kids in my sexy times lol)

There's an Agatha Christie called Elephants Can Remember, sadly with a hold list at my library.

For any numbers geeks like me:

We've got 101-103 books to do to complete all 5 Events.

After that, the best bonus event to do is one of the easiest: decorate the Chariot. If we get all 10 books of decorations, it's an average of 20 points a book!

Other good bonus events are Event 2: Page Jumping chains of 10 and 12 (though the pages required get up into 500-651+). These average 21 and 17 points per book if we do them all.

The Coaching bonuses are pretty low on the scale of points per book, so we probably shouldn't stress about finding MMA books just yet. There are 67 books we can read for bonus that give more points per book than the Coach books.

There are a total of 194 books available for this event, including all the bonuses. That's an average of a little over 12 books a person over 3 weeks. (Don't worry, 3 is the minimum # books per person -- not everyone has to read 12!)

Ray - the captains have a plan about order of attack re:events, as there are requirements for participation and the like. Once we get this first event mostly planned we'll be rolling out plans for the next, fear not. :)

Also - we don't have to do all the events, and we don't have to do all the bonus. Some people are four books a month people, other are twenty, and that's perfectly fine. The groups are balanced in terms of books per month, and I doubt the mods expect every group to fill out the entire run of events+bonus. For one thing, that would mean there's nothing left to read! Hehe.

So to reiterate - for now let's just plan event one, moving on to the next step when we have a handle on this one. The captains are on it! :D

Kazen...I didn't see my list of books on the spreadsheet do you want me to list the possibles here? This is the direct link...I believe I have all of these in my Kindle library Free/Kindle

I don't mind re-reading if that helps

There are quite a few that won't work...I can read 250 pg in one day...so I'm sure I could tackle 2 by end of day Monday if needed.

Yeah, I'm leaving out any that are too short, have one word titles, or are serials (not sure how they would count, better safe than sorry).

This will give us a lot of options, though! :D I'm up to books about 300 pages long, I'll stop here and see how combos look.

Not sure how I got 20 books assigned to me, but if the average is 200-250 pages, I can do that many. In the battleship round I read quite a few long books to help our team...I hope me being 'behind' doesn't hurt us.

Tammie - not at all. Remember how when you signed up it asked how many books you read a week? They just multiplied the high end of that out to a month. It's a very inexact tool and is merely a guide - not a requirement so no worries there. I'm behind on my own numbers quite a bit so the last thing I'm going to do is yell at someone for being a few books under! And some people are over. It all evens out in the end and you're right, there are intangibles like length and filling oddly shaped holes/tasks.

In other words - you are doing everything perfectly right, rock on! :D

eta: Of course, if you said you'll read a hundred books and only get around to two, I'll probably talk to you about it. ;)

I haven't stated any book-list but if u visit my 'to-read' folder, you could pretty much use any of them. (there has been 3-4 that i wasnt able to get and some r marked 'unpublished tbr' other than that just let me know what u want and i'll answer asap as to if i can get them.

I wont be able to start my book until tonight since I have guests coming and an incredibly cute toddler!

ME TOO! In Dungeons and Dragons, there's a Ring of Sustanence that causes one's character to not need food or water and be rested with only 2 hours sleep. Want one! Wish they were real. Also, you might check out Beggars in Spain--great scifi about sleeplessness as a genetic modification. :D

Is the first leg for heat 2 final? I can start reading Before I Fall as soon as Olympics start. (I don't have to wait till heat 1 is over, do I?)

Also- question for the mods/ Kazen- if a book starts or ends with a contracted word (I've, it's, she's) what will count? The whole word or only the first part/ second part
