Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady | 596 comments Hi all! So glad to get to be part of this! I just finished the Around the world team challenge and it was so much fun i wanted to do another team one. I may need a little help getting up to speed on how this one works, but i can read a book a week (sometimes 2) so i will do all i can to help.

I live in Knoxville, TN and our zoo has been on the leading edge of breeding Red Pandas in captivity so that is really cool! They are my favorite zoo animal.

I currently work for Whole Foods Market in the Produce Dept. My marriage to my lovely wife is finally legal, Cheers, we have been together 12 years.

I mostly enjoy reading Historical Fiction and Fantasy, though any good book will make me happy. I do avoid romance novels at all cost, but would read one for the challenge if i have to.

I just started, my current book, but will start looking for ones to help the team after that. Look forward to getting to know you all and Happy Reading

prag ♻ (janayanation) Hey Caly! Welcome to the team:) Kazen and the co-captains will probably do a better job of catching you up to our current status in the challenge than me.

I compared our books :P I see you liked Uprooted a lot more than I did, high fantasy and such just aren't for me. I'm also reading The Night Circus atm (actually I started it last week and forgot about it after the first chapter, but I'll get around to it soon!)

Congrats on your marriage! :D :D

Red pandas breeding!? Kudos to your zoo! And how wonderful you got this team.

My partner works at Whole Foods in prepared foods. He's only been there 8 months but loves it. Does your store do that thing in the morning and night where they put out almost-expired things and you can buy them for a quarter? (or free, a pal in Sacramento works at WF and gets hers for free) I LOVE the quarter surprises!!! It's like every day is Christmas! He comes home with delicious and weird and cool stuff. :)

I checked listopia for books involving construction...I had nothing on my list that had tools on the cover. Found this one...not sure if anyone subscribes to Kindle Unlimited...it's a romance. But a choice nonetheless. I've got books for all the other categories except no number 12 and no tools. I can't resist the search...might be my favorite part! Gotta get back to my reading...

The book was good but it's book 2 in a different world so it took me some time to get into it and then I had to go back and read the prequel for better understanding so it took me quite some time to finish it. The book was quite interesting though.

Do you have a book starting with "time"? We need one of those still, for Heat 1. Riah suggested:

A trail through time (Caly) ---> time after time (Riah) ---> time was (Tammie).... (3 string)

But Tammie has a few books already, so if you could pop onto the end here, that would be great! If not, hopefully it'll just be a day or two until we knock out this last 3-chain and that will open up the other events.

@Riah - how fast do you think you can read Time After Time?

I have "Time Cat" and "Time for the Stars" that I can get through pretty fast if another fast reader wants to chain off "cat" or "stars" so the chain could be:

A trail through time (Caly)
time cat (ray)
OR
Time for the Stars (Ray)
Cat.....?
OR
Stars....?

Or Caly, then Riah, then Pragya (if a "time" book can be found). I don't want to take all the spots!! Heat 1 just needs to be finished before we can do almost anything else. :D

Riah wrote: "How much books in that string for "time" did we need? 3,5?"

Just 3! :)

If you're itching for books, maybe planning something for Chariot can help? Goal post above has a list of what we need. A knife/dagger is already planned in the excel sheet. Tools seem hard to find!

Also, if you start reading something else, it can count for Wheel later on, so there's that. :)

Let me check for books starting with time:)

I already finished The Winnee's Kiss for Wheel (I started in Battleship) for wheel.

Ray (user2637) (hugpete) | 1521 comments Cool, hope you have a Time book! :)

I found a book for every part of Chariot except the landscape cover. I even found a tool, rope, and wheel! Happy to fill in where ever.

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady | 596 comments ↪ Read TWO books with a Wheel(s) on the cover
▲ Wheels must be "a circular object that revolves on an axle and is fixed below a vehicle or other object to enable it to move easily over the ground" and of a size that can SUPPORT the Chariot/Driver

I know you said you found a book with a wheel Ray, but the challenge says 2 books, correct?

If so I can read this one when the time comes.. The All-Girl Filling Station's Last Reunion by Fannie Flagg I believe it works?

Thanks for the welcome ! I have been a fantasy fan since childhood when I first read the Chronicles of Narnia. The Night Circus was great! Curious to hear what you think. We have a far share of similar books on our "to read" lists too.

@Ella - Thanks for the welcome! Glad to be here!

@Ray - Lots of overlap from SB here and that is cool. Thanks for the welcome. We don't do that at our WFM though I have heard about it. Sometimes they will just but things in the breakroom for us to take home which is cool. Especially since I always work the morning shift so I am not around when the store closes. 8-)

I love this string, but poor Tammie already has three books for this Event! Ray, what if we put one of your time books in the last slot? (You also have many books but I get an odd feeling you wouldn't mind, hehe)

Kazen Pragya wrote: "There's nothing for me to read now until heat one is over, right? I've finished my book, it's the only one in any of the chains."

There's nothing specific for you to read, but you can still read. Any books started now will count not for the Olympics, but towards Wheel.

Caly ☯ Crazy Book Lady | 596 comments Also for that event
" Read TWO books with a title that is exactly 12 letters/numbers"

I have this book Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
Which has exactly 12 letters in the title

And 2 book on my shelf have animals on the cover. One a Horse Pegasus by Danielle Steel and the other a Unicorn Feynard by Marc Secchia

So let me know if any of those will help and I will make a note to myself. 8-)

Now off to read the one I started..

message 967: by Kazen (new)

Kazen

A Friendly Reminder

Please continue to write completed posts as outlined on the first page of this thread for ALL completed books.

Going forward we're going to have books that count for Olympics and others that will only work for Wheel, and this will help the captains keep everything straight.

Thanks! ❤

That looks like a great "wheel" book to me! I'm not necessarily going to read the other one, I just wanted to try to have options for the harder slots in case others couldn't find things.

Not sure if you know yet, but our team is spread across the globe! We have 3 in India, 9 across the USA (mostly Central and Eastern time zones), and 1 each in Japan, Australia, Vietnam, and the Philippines. I'm in California (not sure if you remember) so sometimes I'm here talking to myself, lol. :)

I totally wouldn't mind! I'm still reading Magic of the Angels for Heat 2, but can easily put it aside for a Heat 1 book. However, Pragya has nothing to read atm, so she's looking for a "time" book right now. She can have dibs. ;) And I'll jump in if she can't find anything. :)

So Event Five is kind of different because everyone needs to read a book for it. There are barely more tasks than members so we're going to stick to one book a person for now for this one event. If you'd like to change your book to one of the other ones you mentioned let me know! :)

Am I right that Knoxville and Nashville are in different time zones? I'm in a tall state, not a wide one, so that is SO WEIRD to me, haha.

My first book was bad, but I loved Keep Me Posted (thinking about upping it from 4 to 5 stars; why don't we have half stars!?!?), and now reading a Doctor Who book which are always good even if they are bad. This one has the characters down really well.
