by James Rollins. Won this one through GoodReads but can't remove my NetGalley request. (Which is what I do if NetGalley gives me a book I submitted for a Giveaway so to give someone else the chance.)
Happy 88th birthday on March 25 to Gloria Steinem, whose story of becoming a feminist activist and icon is told by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. These "Little People BIG DREAMS" picture books are for children, but I am meeting so many interesting people myself!

Bluebird by Genevieve Graham.
BluebirdI was captivated by the emotional story as well as uncorking a chapter of Prohibition that I didn't know existed. I rarely give five-starred reviews but this heartwarming novel warranted that distinction.
While describing the heroic acts on the battlefields, Graham personalizes the bravery nurses, nicknamed 'Bluebirds' displayed. Not trained in battle, the courageous women risked their lives to save others. Running towards danger instead of seeking shelter, they exemplified what it means to be brave.

I imagine all readers are aware of who Nelson Mandela is, but for the future generations of children, this is a welcome addition to the Little People BIG DREAMS series by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara. This boy moved from a traditional childhood in an old culture to become a champion for freedom and a world leader.

Completed "Lenny" by Laura McVeigh. This one broke my heart with its beauty and depth. Simply amazing. 4.75 stars for the audiobook.

The Second Sight of Zachary Cloudesley is an entertaining debut by Sean Lusk which has some history, some magic, and exotic locales. It's not my thing, but I can see a real fan base for this one when it comes out in June.

If you're looking for a dark and humorous YA Urban Fantasy, I would recommend Herrick's End by T M Blanchet. A likeable reluctant hero protagonist, strong positive friendships and an imaginative world built beneath Boston. my review

Completed 3 very different kinds of ARCs. Each was good in its own way. 1. "Voting Day" by Clare O'Dea
A literary fiction novella showing a glimpse of the day Swiss men went to vote on whether women should get the right of suffrage. A thought-provoking indie work. 4.25 stars.

2. "Across the Desert" by Dusti Bowling
A middle-grade adventure with a 12 year old girl fighting personal and natural issues to save an online friend. Kids will love it; parents might be worried of its approach. 3.75 stars.

3. "Manga Classics: The Count of Monte Cristo"
A manga version of the Alexandre Dumas classic. It does complete justice to the original. 4.25 stars.

Don't get me wrong, Billie - I love the covers! I just need the words of the title typed out so I know what the book is. Then I can click on the cover to go to the page if I want to know more. 😁
I enjoyed Viet Thanh Nguyen's 2016 Pulitzer Prize winner, The Sympathizer, but the political and philosophical arguments got the better of me in his follow-up, The Committed. He's an excellent, smart writer - and funny (a Chinese guy called Le Cao Boi wishes he were American).

Currently making my way through The Golden Couple by Greer Hendricks and Sarah Pekkanen. I haven't read any of their books since The Wife Between Us even though I own their previous works.

Zeba Blay's Carefree Black Girls: A Celebration of Black Women in Popular Culture is a passionate protest, full of examples, about the global culture of "colorism" and how the darkness of your skin decides your worth and opportunities. She knows her stuff!

Night of the Raven, Dawn of the Dove, wasn't that great, the writing lacking descriptions. I almost DNF, and if it wasn't for the plot twist, that really helped the story, I wouldn't have finished.

See Them Die, by Michael Fowler, introduces forensic psychologist Dr. Hamlet Mottrell, who is lying in a hospital bed with bandaged wrists, accused of slaughtering his family. Not a bad start for a new psychological mystery series

A decent debut YA Fantasy but could have been a lot better. The fantasy part is outstanding. The writing, amateurish. 3.5 stars.

A Night of Wings and Starlight
was an okay of a read. I gave it two stars. Moving on to Primitives
Wolf Girl is a shy little girl who pretends to be a brave, fierce wolf. The illustrations by author Jo Loring-Fisher are just beautiful.

Hidden Pictures by Jason RekulakI am a big Psychological Thriller fan and Paranormal thrillers aren't my usual 'go to' books~

Plus the narrator Suzy Jackson did a fab job in performing all the characters.
